Chapter 266: The Ruler and the Saint
Chapter 266: The Ruler and the Saint
“Speak, what do you want from me? I’m just a mortal. How can I help you?” Xu Lian asked.
Liu Qing explained, “The three of us have been constantly exchanging memories for cultivation resources and insights, and we have quickly risen to the rank of the Supreme. We forced the head of the Sacred Land to resign and took control. Then we began our campaign to conquer the world.
“At first, everything went smoothly. We defeated one top-tier power after another, mainly by subduing them, and our forces grew like a snowball, rolling larger and larger. We gathered more and more Supremes.
“At our peak, we had over six hundred Supremes, including some who were outsiders like us and had also ascended to Supreme.”
Xu Lian nodded, “I can guess all of that. But if you gathered so many Supremes, why did you suffer a defeat?”
Liu Qing smiled bitterly, “Because someone gathered even more Supremes than us, and their strength surpassed ours. Do you remember the blue-haired girl who was the first to climb the Human Tower?”
Xu Lian replied, “I remember. She took a few companions and left while we were sleeping to enter this illusory world before us.”
Liu Qing said, “Exactly. She and her companions entered this illusory world several hours ahead of us. But time passes much faster here. A few hours outside are many years inside.
“So, she was born into this world many years before us. She reached the rank of Supreme faster than we did, conquered many forces, and gathered many Supremes under her banner. She declared herself the ‘Ruler of the Supremes'”.
The Ruler of Supremes… Xu Lian found the title somewhat amusing, but he couldn’t bring himself to laugh. The title was self-explanatory-she was the dominant force among the Supremes, and her influence had already solidified.
Wang Heng glared at Xu Lian, “We need you. Only you can defeat her!”
“Me?” Xu Lian was amused. He pointed at himself, “I’m just a mortal. How can I defeat her?”
Wang Heng said seriously, “Back in the outside world, you led everyone in building the Human Tower, step by step, finding clues, distinguishing the fake reincarnation pool from the real one, and leading everyone into this illusory world. Your prestige is high.
“If you return to the Sacred Land with us and rally the people, many outside Supremes will naturally join us, increasing our strength and allowing us to stand against the Ruler of Supremes!”
Liu Qing added, “That blue-haired girl is a traitor. You are the leader who brought everyone here. Everyone knows where their loyalties lie.”
Xu Lian thought for a moment, then said, “Alright, I’ll go back to the Sacred Land with you.”
And so the three of them took Xu Lian across space and returned to the sacred land, immediately making their plans.
First, hundreds of Supremes jointly elected Xu Lian as the “Saint Supreme,” proclaiming his existence to the world!
Next, they issued a declaration of war, calling on all outsider Supremes to join them in defeating the Ruler of Supremes!
Clearly, they wanted to use Xu Lian’s reputation and prestige in the outside world to bolster their strength.
The effect was immediate. Back in the outside world, everyone had resented the blue-haired girl. Now that Xu Lian was leading the charge for revenge, many naturally flocked to their side.
Of course, the main motivation was self-interest. No one wanted to see the blue-haired girl dominate the world and reap the rewards of the broken world. Therefore, they were willing to join Xu Lian’s side to share in the spoils.
“If you join me, I’m willing to share the spoils with you! There are no eternal enemies, only eternal interests!”
The Ruler of Supremes, the blue-haired girl, became worried. If thousands of outsider Supremes joined Xu Lian, even her vast forces would be overwhelmed. She hastily issued a proclamation, offering to share the rewards of the broken world with the outsiders.
On Xu Lian’s side, Liu Qing, A Xian, and Wang Heng sneered. They immediately issued another declaration of war: “She betrayed everyone once; she can betray everyone again. You all know who to trust, right?”
And so, the two factions engaged in a war of words, also known as… a spitting war.
In the end, Xu Lian’s side gained the upper hand. After all, the blue-haired girl had a history of betrayal, and the outsiders no longer trusted her. They were more willing to believe in Xu Lian’s side.
As large numbers of outsider Supremes joined Xu Lian’s side, their forces expanded rapidly, reaching thousands of Supremes.
The blue-haired girl, the Ruler of Supremes, became increasingly desperate. She accelerated her conquests, seizing control of more than half the world and amassing thousands of Supremes, most of whom were “native” Supremes. The foreign Supremes, however, preferred to follow Xu Lian.
Thus, the world was divided into two. The blue-haired girl, the ruler of the Supremes, and Xu Lian, the Saint Supreme, each held half of the world.
The atmosphere of an impending final battle spread throughout the world, ready to erupt at any moment.
However, neither side was fully prepared for the final battle, and both were still preparing.
Thus, the world remained calm, but everyone knew that it was the calm before the storm!
Xu Lian, the Supreme Saint, was just a figurehead. He was still a mortal, and the final battle didn’t require his participation. He lived leisurely… rekindling his relationship with Ling Ran.
Ling Ran’s feelings were complicated. She never expected that Xu Lian, who had no cultivation talent, could live for over 150 years and even become the highest Saint Supreme of the Sacred Land.
A year later, Ling Ran became pregnant and gave birth to a pair of twin daughters, fulfilling their marital happiness.
In the third year, a glowing declaration of war appeared in the Sacred Land.
It exploded in the sky above the Sacred Land, turning into a shower of starlight, with only one word: “Fight!”
Obviously, the blue-haired girl, the Ruler of the Supremes, could not wait for the final battle any longer.
She knew that most of Xu Lian’s forces were outsider Supremes who could exchange memories for anything. The longer the delay, the stronger Xu Lian’s side would become. This was unfavorable for her, so she wanted the final battle to happen as soon as possible.
At this point, there was nothing left to say. Both sides had shown their hands, and any schemes or tricks seemed frivolous. Only the battle remained.
Both sides had thousands of Supremes, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.
The blue-haired girl’s side consisted mostly of “native” Supremes, many of whom were older and had rich battle experience. They were deeply integrated with the rules of the illusory world, giving them a geographical advantage. However, their forces were somewhat aged, and as the saying goes, “Fists fear the young”. In battles at the Supreme level, it was difficult to deliver a fatal blow in one strike. Longer fights favored the younger, more vigorous Supremes.
Xu Lian’s side, on the other hand, consisted mostly of outsider Supremes who had been “fast-tracked” to the Supreme rank. Their greatest advantage was that they could exchange memories for anything, giving them a trump card. They were also young, strong, and full of vitality in their prime. However, as outsiders, they were somewhat out of place in this illusory world, and they lacked combat experience at the Supreme level.
Both sides tacitly agreed to meet at the border of their respective territories and face each other.
The blue-haired girl suggested, “Some Supremes don’t want to participate in the battle and are hiding, hoping to reap the benefits later. Why don’t we deduce and eliminate these hidden Supremes first?”
Xu Lian smiled, “Agreed. Before the big battle, we need to eliminate the ‘lurkers’ first.”
Although no one understood what ‘lurkers’ meant, everyone knew that before the final battle between the two factions, they had to eliminate those who were hiding.
And so, the thousands of Supremes from both sides worked together to deduce and locate the hidden Supremes.
No matter how much these hidden Supremes begged for mercy, it was useless. Both sides swarmed over them and killed them without hesitation.
Those who tried to reap the benefits without participating would find no mercy.
The clever ones who thought they could hide and wait were outwitted. Everyone else was not foolish.
With all the hidden Supremes in the world eliminated, both sides could finally focus on the final battle.
“Kill!”
The blue-haired girl, the Ruler of Supremes, coldly waved her hand, giving the order to attack.
Xu Lian, the Saint Supreme, roared, “Charge!”
With that, he was whisked away from the battlefield by Liu Qing… back to the safety of the sacred land.
With seven or eight thousand Supremes gathered here, a single mortal like Xu Lian would be a burden. His mission was complete, and there was no point in him staying.
