Chapter 143: Chapter 143: My Strength Depends on Your Imagination
Erik's eyes remained tightly shut, but his brows furrowed slightly. A surge of immense psychic energy radiated from him, so palpable that even the spectators could feel its intensity.
In their astonished gaze, the overwhelming psychic energy coalesced into a semi-transparent giant blade, which slashed toward the oncoming torrent of flames.
The flames were instantly cleaved in two!
Following the psychic blade, a semi-transparent fist materialized in the air, its presence overwhelming. In Genos's vision, the fist grew larger and larger, barreling toward him with crushing force.
"So... strong!"
That punch decided the match. Genos was defeated.
"Are you okay?" Erik walked up to the fallen Genos and extended a hand to him.
"I'm fine. You're incredible. Let's spar more in the future."
Genos smiled as he spoke. He genuinely felt that coming here was the best decision he'd ever made. Surrounded by powerful individuals, he was certain that anyone leaving this place would be nothing short of exceptional.
"Sure." Erik grinned. The two shook hands, their bond strengthened through battle.
This result was expected. No matter who won, Han Yu wasn't surprised. His focus now was to assess and adapt their combat power for the Marvel world's scale.
For the next two hours, Erik acted as a sparring partner, taking on three different opponents.
When facing Saitama, Erik was swiftly defeated. At the very start of the match, Saitama teleported behind him. His seemingly unremarkable punch carried the weight of the heavens, crashing down with an aura of utter annihilation.
If Saitama hadn't stopped at the last moment, Erik was certain he wouldn't have survived that blow.
Against Fubuki, Erik emerged victorious. Fubuki, a psychic like him, wielded the power to control wind. However, the training space was eerily pristine, devoid of any objects she could manipulate for attacks.
Normally, her combat relied on using wind to control various objects to strike her enemies, much like Charles's ability to manipulate magnetic fields. But in this smooth and dustless arena, her options were limited. Although her attacks weren't weak, they couldn't breach Erik's materialized psychic shield, leading to her eventual defeat.
Then came the match with King. The atmosphere turned peculiar. Just standing before King, Erik felt an invisible pressure bearing down on him, as if facing a colossal giant whose presence alone was suffocating.
"What's that sound?" Charles asked curiously.
As Erik and King faced off, a deep, rhythmic "thud-thud-thud" resonated from King. The sound resembled perfectly tuned subwoofers blasting nearby, each thud seemingly causing one's heartbeat to falter momentarily.
"That's the 'King Engine,'" Fubuki explained with a serious expression. "It's King's ultimate move. When he enters battle mode, this sound indicates he's ready to strike."
Her explanation was delivered with such gravity that Charles was left wide-eyed and stunned.
Saitama and Han Yu, however, exchanged glances, their faces betraying helpless amusement. They both knew the so-called "King Engine" was nothing more than a fabricated legend.
"All right, let's call it a day. We'll continue next time."
Hearing Fubuki's explanation, Erik decided to concede voluntarily. King's overwhelming aura was simply too much to handle.
It was like encountering a boss in a game: you're level 20, and the boss is level 80—completely out of your league.
Genos and Fubuki weren't surprised by the outcome. After all, many had surrendered immediately when facing King.
Han Yu couldn't help but feel both amused and exasperated. Is King's strength entirely dependent on how much his opponents imagine it to be?
"As expected of the seventh-ranked S-Class hero," Fubuki said sincerely. "If someone this strong is willing to humble himself as a student, what right do I have to be a teacher? No, I need to learn too! Han, I don't want to be a teacher anymore—I want to be a student!"
"Me too!" Genos chimed in.
Han Yu was caught between laughter and frustration. "But didn't we agree that you'd be teachers?"
"If it's Saitama-sensei teaching, I have no objections," Genos said earnestly. "But as for us, seeing King and Erik's battles made us realize how far behind we are. We need serious training."
Genos's expression showed his firm resolve, leaving Han Yu no choice but to accept their decision. Yet, he couldn't reveal the truth behind King's so-called "King Engine."
Even though this wasn't something Han Yu planned or encouraged, King had undeniably reaped benefits from the reputation. Exposing him now might not cause problems here, but in their original world, King would be utterly ruined. No, his fate would be worse than mere disgrace.
The ignorant masses would turn on him in a frenzy, making even daily life unbearable.
Han Yu glanced toward King, who had returned to Saitama's side, whispering quietly.
King, of course, understood the precariousness of his situation. That's why he'd insisted on becoming a student in the first place—to acquire real combat power. He knew he couldn't rely on deception forever.
"Lastly… Jean, would you like to spar with someone?" Han Yu turned to Jean Grey, who had been standing quietly to the side, and smiled softly.
"I'll pass for now," Jean said honestly. "I still struggle to control my abilities, and I'm afraid I might hurt someone."
"That's fine," Han Yu replied, his expression thoughtful. "But I want you to know this: your ability is called the Phoenix Force. It's a cosmic-level primal power. If you master it, you'll easily stand at the pinnacle of all mutants—a Level 5 mutant."
"Level 5?"
Both Charles and Erik were visibly startled. They had considered this possibility before. The X-System's calculations had predicted that Jean would likely reach Level 4 as a mutant, with a slim chance of advancing to Level 5.
But that was just a prediction—not a certainty.
Hearing this from Han Yu, however, carried a completely different weight.
Charles and Erik trusted Han Yu implicitly. He was the one who had guided them onto the path of finding mutants, helped them establish the school, and was instrumental in its growth. If Han Yu was certain about something, they believed him.
Hearing him confidently describe Jean's abilities as a cosmic primal force left even these seasoned men dumbfounded.
For all their strength as mutants, they were still human. But Jean? She wielded the essence of the cosmos itself. Who could rival that?
"Are my abilities really that powerful?"
Jean looked incredulous. She'd always thought her uniqueness stemmed from being a mutant. Now, standing among mutants and superhumans, she realized she was extraordinary even in their ranks.
