Chapter 60: Chapter 60
Each magic box cost $500, and Luke bought 100 of them.
He wanted to buy more, but they were already sold out.
TMD!
"Only ten rounds of ten draws in total? Even less than last time." Luke complained, staring at Ross with resentment-filled eyes.
"Last time was a promotion. Believe me, I'm guiding you on the right path. Roar!" Ross had the look of a dead octopus tossed into boiling water. He insisted that the rules had already been set.
"I believed your lies!" Luke rolled his eyes.
With a flash of light, a hundred magic boxes appeared neatly before him, materializing out of thin air.
"I'm gonna start drawing! Let's see what I can get out of these ten guaranteed rewards." Luke bowed three times to the east and said, "Martyr, give me strength!!"
Luke knew this was the moment to test his luck.
Question: What can come out of a hundred magic boxes?
Answer: It usually falls into three categories depending on the luck of the person opening them.
For example:
The true European Emperor always hits the jackpot.
If you misclick, you can still get a transparent sky. Every time there's an event, you get exactly what you want—easy.
Then, there are the unlucky ones—always bald, always cursed.
Fatigue maxed out, but no rare drops. Two-thirds fewer magic stones than others when grinding. Every time a team fight ends, it's 413 points. Buy instant noodles, and the seasoning packet is missing. Ten rounds of ten draws yield ten pet eggs, and the rest? Random loot bags with 2 to 10 artifact souls, but of course, you only get 2 every time!
Makes you wonder if you're even playing the right game.
That's the fear of being dominated by bad luck all year round…
As for the rest, they're fake European Emperors.
Sometimes lucky, sometimes not.
They rely on superstitions, rituals, and weird tricks to boost their odds.
Luke figured he belonged to this third category.
"Speaking of which, if I drink a bottle of Celia's Lucky Potion while drawing, will that double my luck?" Luke rubbed his hands together in anticipation.
Ross immediately shot him down. "Don't even think about it. That thing won't work on magic boxes!"
Luke scowled. "Another one of your rules?"
"You can't blame me for this. It's a system rule. You really think they'd leave such an obvious loophole for you to exploit?" Ross snorted. "Besides, you have to understand, this is my second sister—Ahem. Never mind… Just forget it!"
Luke sighed. "I knew it wouldn't work… Wait, second sister? What second sister?"
"Nothing." Ross immediately played dead.
Luke eyed him suspiciously. That bastard was definitely hiding something.
Based on Luke's experience with magic boxes, he estimated that skill books had about a two-thirds chance of showing up as guaranteed rewards.
So, he expected about six or seven skill books this time.
With such a small sample size, he figured the odds of pulling the mecha weapon design blueprints he wanted were slim.
As for the remaining one-third? That would be filled with weird crap—like Burger Nina's hamburger recipe, Celia's Lucky Potion, or some ridiculous snowman costume.
Not useless, but not exactly what he wanted. Right now, he needed raw combat power, not gimmicks.
He didn't want to end up selling burgers in a snowman costume, hoping his enemies died from cuteness.
First round of ten draws:
[Data Chip x1]
[Celia's Handmade Cake x1]
[Colorless Small Crystal Block x33]
[Resurrection Coin x2]
[Magic Stone x2]
[Magic Stone x1]
[Colorless Small Crystal Block x18]
[Data Chip x1]
[Colorless Small Crystal Block x17]
[Burger Nina's Delicious Burger Recipe: Volume 2]
Luke looked surprised.
"Hey! There's a second volume of this thing?" He picked it up and read the description. "Teaches you how to make a better-tasting burger… Wait, if there's a second volume, is there a third one?"
"You're so smart," Ross said.
"Does the third volume teach you how to make an even better burger?"
"You're so smart!"
"…"
Luke sighed and skimmed through the recipe. It was indeed new—focusing on how to make an advanced Burger Nina burger to win over customers with more refined tastes.
Great. Now all he needed was to serve Thanos a burger and hope it killed him.
Whatever. Next draw.
Second round of ten draws:
[Magic Stone x1]
[Magic Stone x2]
[Magic Stone x3]
[Colorless Small Crystal Block x10]
[Resurrection Coin x1]
[Resurrection Coin x2]
…
The guaranteed reward finally appeared.
[Skill Book: Uppercut]
Luke felt the universe's deep malice.
Oh, it showed up alright.
The curse of bad luck.
Luke sighed and started the third round. You get used to it…
[Magic Stone x1]
[Magic Stone x2]
[Magic Stone x3]
…
[Skill Book: Iron Bones]
"Another damn Iron Bones?"
It was a rare defensive skill, but still, he felt disappointed.
Whatever. He snapped his fingers and learned it instantly.
Stacking two layers of Iron Bones boosted his pain immunity even further.
"Not bad."
If he kept stacking this, he'd probably stop feeling anything altogether.
At this rate, he might just turn into a damn vegetable.
Or worse—what if he lost all feeling and couldn't even do the things he loved anymore?!
Ross chuckled. "Hey, now that you mention it… This skill is kinda terrifying."
Luke sneered. "I ain't following any of your damn rules anymore!"
Fourth round of ten draws:
[Magic Stone x1]
[Magic Stone x2]
[Magic Stone x3]
…
Looking at the growing pile of magic stones in front of him, Luke was speechless. No matter how valuable they were, he didn't need this many…
Finally, the guaranteed reward appeared.
An Asura skill book.
"Finally, something useful!"
Luke exhaled in relief. At least he wasn't completely screwed.
[Skill Book: Shura Evil Light Slash]
A technique that concentrated energy into a sword swing, launching a massive wave of sword energy forward.
This was the first Asura skill he had drawn.
In DNF, Asura's final awakening made him a powerhouse—strong enough to trade a +12 weapon for a stainless steel basin.
He quickly learned the skill. Immediately, a strange energy surged within him. This must be the power of the wave imprint.
Like a sword-drawing technique, this required a sword to use.
The biggest benefit? It was a long-range attack.
All this time, Luke had been a close-combat fighter, brawling and improvising even inside his mecha.
Now, for the first time, he had a valid reason to fight from a distance.
…Assuming he got his hands on a sword.
Luke glanced at the liquid adamantium in the special container nearby.
But he didn't make a decision yet.
He continued to the fifth round.
"Let's not rush. Let's see what else I get first."
[Magic Stone x1]
[Magic Stone x2]
[Magic Stone x3]
…
Then, the guaranteed reward appeared.
Another skill book.
Luke blinked.
"Wait a minute… This skill… Isn't this the one that healers use—?"
