Marvel: I can learn anything

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: The Sentinels

Ian was heading to a timeline that also had a Raven. He wasn't sure what would happen if the two Ravens met.

The consequences were unknown and uncontrollable. Ian couldn't guarantee he could manage the aftermath, especially when it involved time and space.

So, this time, Ian decided not to bring Raven along to eliminate the possibility of accidents entirely.

The research base of Trask Industries had tight security, especially when it came to mutants.

The base had extensive research on mutants, with X-gene detectors almost everywhere. However, these devices were completely ineffective against Ian and his team.

Currently, Trask Industries' X-gene detectors could only detect active X-genes.

After condensing the rune of laws, Ian and his team could make their X-genes dormant at will.

Of course, the main reason was that the gene detectors were remote-controlled technological devices.

Given Ian's power, the base was incapable of stopping him. However, as his goal this time was to retrieve something, there was no need to storm in.

Using Spirit Vision and Gate, Ian slipped into the base without a sound. With Mirage and 007, Ian roamed the base as if it were empty.

The first thing Ian found was the latest generation of Sentinel robots.

They bore some resemblance to the Sentinels from his memory, but their actual combat capabilities were far inferior.

These Sentinels could simulate mutant X-abilities, but the process was slow, and they could only switch between a limited number of preset modes.

Most importantly, the Sentinels consumed their own energy to simulate mutant abilities. Once their energy ran out, they were rendered useless.

Ian observed an experiment where a Sentinel shut down in less than three minutes.

With the current energy technology, it was impossible to sustain the massive energy consumption of the Sentinels.

"This isn't even simulating mutant X-abilities. It's simulating the effects of mutant X-abilities," Ian saw through the essence of the Sentinel robots instantly.

Even with another hundred years of development, these machines could never become the unbeatable nemesis of mutants.

Ian continued to wander through the base, uncovering all its secrets.

It wasn't until he reached the base's exhibition room that Ian finally found what he came for.

On the first-generation Sentinel robot, Ian saw the traces of the storyline and faintly visible time streams. The same reaction came from the design manuscripts nearby.

These were the critical nodes that would allow him to accurately travel to the timeline of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

But Ian didn't take them away. Instead, he disassembled them and then restored them to their original state, extracting the spatial-temporal information they contained in the process.

This temporal information was what Ian truly needed.

With this information, Ian wouldn't need to travel near the nodes like last time. He could return home and initiate the journey from a completely safe location.

"While Aisha and I are away, Selina will take charge of the academy. No adjustments are necessary. As for the Nova Squad, Raven, please keep an eye on them. Reduce the frequency of their operations and have them return for training..." Ian reiterated his instructions before leaving.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of them!" Raven assured him.

Since Temporal Studies hadn't reached Level 5, Ian still couldn't create spatial-temporal beacons. He could only make informational markers. Thus, the timing of his return remained uncertain, though he could guarantee it would be within a year.

The temporal portal opened once more. Ian nodded at Selina and the others, then led Aisha through the portal.

Emerging from the portal, they found themselves on a wide street. The street was desolate, silent, and devoid of any light, even darker than an alley.

Even in the dim night, one could see that both sides of the street were lined with dozens of skyscrapers.

But like the street, the buildings had no lights.

Everything seemed eerily strange.

"This looks like a post-war urban ruin. Within a ten-kilometer radius, I can't sense a single living soul," Aisha shared her findings with concern.

A Level 4 psychic guardian like Aisha couldn't attack but was naturally adept at sensing human psychic waves.

There were only two possibilities for her inability to sense psychic waves: either all minds were being shielded, or there were no living humans within ten kilometers.

The eerie surroundings, coupled with Aisha's findings, confirmed Ian's suspicion of their timeline:

"This is a post-apocalyptic wasteland."

"What war?" Aisha didn't recall any conflict this devastating in history.

"The war between humans and mutants," Ian replied.

Having confirmed the timeline, Ian no longer concealed his abilities and flew into the sky with Aisha.

He took out a peculiar pair of glasses and put them on.

The glasses had no lenses. Instead, the frame was inscribed with mysterious runes.

These runes were naturally the law runes of Spirit Vision.

While the glasses lacked the ability to share the vision of contracted animals, they provided Ian with spiritual vision.

This allowed Ian to directly observe the law fluctuations caused by mutants using their abilities, with an expansive field of view.

At an altitude of one thousand meters, Ian had the entire city under his surveillance.

From the sky, Ian could see the full extent of the city.

This was a metropolis that once housed at least millions of people. Now, it was pitch black and devoid of any signs of life.

Of course, Ian also didn't detect any law fluctuations.

The city was completely abandoned.

Yet even in a deserted city, there were still Sentinels patrolling.

Ian's bold flight soon attracted two approaching flying devices that resembled tombstones.

Seeing the incoming crafts, Ian handed Aisha a pair of Spirit Vision glasses and instructed her:

"Sentinels are coming. Watch the city below. I'll deal with these pieces of junk."

Ian had anticipated the arrival of Sentinels but wasn't concerned. In fact, he welcomed the chance to assess the Sentinel robots of this timeline.

With his Level 5 strength, Ian was invincible in this world. Sentinel robots were no match for him.

The crafts didn't issue any warnings and attacked Ian immediately. However, instead of deploying Sentinels, they unleashed a barrage of lasers, bullets, and missiles.

Ian waved his hand lightly. Bullets and missiles disintegrated into atoms, under Ian's control, while lasers were easily deflected by his particle shield.

Not only the bullets but the weapons mounted on the crafts were also destroyed simultaneously.

Ian wasn't interested in these technological weapons. What he wanted to see were the Sentinel robots.

Once their weapons were neutralized, the crafts opened their hatches and released the Sentinels.

More than a dozen Sentinels, blazing like fire spirits, shot toward Ian like meteors, propelled by the flames beneath them.

"Law fluctuations?" Ian's gaze sharpened. He could sense genuine law fluctuations from the Sentinels.

This meant these Sentinels weren't merely mimicking the effects of X-abilities—they were directly replicating mutant powers.
