James crafted a quick excuse and made his way toward the classroom, trying to shake off the lingering fatigue.

"Shouldn't you see a doctor if you're feeling unwell? Ignoring a cold could lead to complications," Gwen called after him, her voice laced with genuine concern. James and Peter turned to greet her, flashing their usual smiles. Their interactions with her had become a comfortable routine, a bright spot in their otherwise chaotic school days.

Jessica Campbell, who was walking alongside Gwen, timidly waved at the duo, her gaze lingering on Peter with a hint of admiration.

Noticing Jessica's interest, Peter returned her wave with a friendly smile. "Hey, Jessica!"

Caught off guard by Peter's unexpected greeting, Jessica's face flushed, and her confidence wavered for a moment.

James, unfazed by the awkward exchange, continued toward the classroom, eager to escape the tension.

Gwen quickened her pace to match his, concern still evident on her face. "Are you sure you don't need to see a doctor? The school infirmary has some great resources."

James flashed a reassuring grin. "Don't worry, I'm not contagious. Just a bit tired."

Gwen's interest seemed to wane, and she fell silent, allowing the conversation to fade into the background.

As they entered the classroom, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement. Classmates huddled around their phones, glued to videos showcasing Spider-Man's latest heroics.

James glanced at the screen as he walked by, catching a glimpse of Thompson's enthusiastic commentary praising Spider-Man for his bravery.

Peter, however, couldn't shake off Thompson's sudden fanboy declaration. It was a little unsettling.

Thompson approached Gwen eagerly, his eyes gleaming with curiosity. "Gwen, do you have any insider info on Spider-Man? Did Sheriff George say anything to you?"

Gwen hesitated, reluctant to share too much but unable to resist the allure of her classmates' curiosity. "Well, Spider-Man wasn't alone. Another person helped him apprehend a robber. And last night, they helped the police thwart a group of armed criminals."

The classroom erupted in astonished chatter, wild speculation running rampant.

"Could this other person be... Sentinel?" someone chimed in, eyes wide with intrigue.

James, mid-nose pick, nearly choked on his own disbelief. "Impossible! Sentinel's a menace, not a hero like Spider-Man."

"I wonder where he's hiding. Spider-Man will catch him soon enough," another student pondered, crossing their arms thoughtfully.

A shift in mindset seemed to occur among the students—a growing preference for superheroes over the police. Sheriff George's earlier concerns began to echo in James's mind, highlighting the unfairness directed at law enforcement.

Peter nudged James, his expression serious. "Shouldn't you clarify? They're all painting you as the bad guy."

James shrugged. "They're calling Sentinel the bad guy, not me. And can you just ask Jessica out already? Seriously."

"By the way, Gwen," Peter interjected, his excitement bubbling over. "I'm taking Jessica out tonight. Wanna make it a double date?"

James rolled his eyes, slumping at his desk. "You two figure it out. They won't let me date Gwen anyway."

"What?" Peter replied, his confusion mirroring James's frustration at feeling misunderstood.

Meanwhile, Jessica posed the same question to Gwen, her nerves tinging the air with uncertainty.

Despite her reluctance, Jessica saw an opportunity. "I'm going out with Parker tonight. Maybe you could join James?"

Gwen deliberated, weighing Jessica's suggestion. It was a valid idea, a chance for a fun night out, but it also complicated her feelings. She glanced at James, who seemed lost in his thoughts, and wondered if mixing friendships with romance was the right move.

As the final bell rang, the classroom buzzed with chatter, but Gwen couldn't shake the feeling that tonight might change everything.
