Marvel : Super Soldier at the Start

Chapter 218: Ronan

After being betrayed by his own crew but gaining a son in return, Blake felt that Yondu came out ahead. After all, that group of crew members had never been particularly reliable.

Once Star-Lord explained everything to Yondu, Yondu immediately decided to disband the team and follow them to Knowhere, the giant celestial head.

"They've been with me for a long time. For those willing to come along, I'll help them settle down and build a home there. For those who aren't, they can have the ship. Whether they become great Ravagers or end up as space debris depends on them," Yondu sighed deeply. Spending a lifetime aboard a ship made the sudden farewell all the more poignant.

After some time in reflection, Yondu finally activated his communicator to contact his remaining crew. Though a portion of his crew had betrayed him earlier, those left aboard the mothership were loyal.

He wanted to give everyone an explanation.

The communicator connected, and the screen revealed a burly man with a thick beard—one of Yondu's most faithful subordinates.

"Dav, get everyone to come down here. What happened earlier was a misunderstanding, and I've got something to discuss with you all."

Seeing a familiar face on the screen boosted Yondu's confidence. The traitorous bunch hadn't taken control of the mothership.

"Um... Yondu, boss, we're not exactly in a position to meet up with you right now," Dav said awkwardly.

"Not in a position? What do you mean? Did those bastards take over the ship? I left enough men behind. What happened, Dav?"

Yondu's face darkened. Glancing at Blake, who was watching the drama unfold with glee, only made him feel worse.

"We're probably about a galaxy away from you right now," Dav confessed hesitantly. "Boss, we left. We know what happened down there. You abandoned all of us for Quill. We understand what you did."

"That's nonsense!"

Yondu's blue face turned even darker, and he shouted furiously.

"Any one of you falls into someone else's hands, and I'd do the same. Even if you'd already betrayed us, you're still part of my crew, and I'll be the one to deal with it. Am I wrong? Or do you doubt me?"

"Boss, I've followed you for years. I know how much Quill means to you. I don't think you're wrong, but this involved the entire team. You can't sacrifice everyone else for one person. We've decided to elect a new leader to guide us. I'm sorry, boss. Maybe this is for the best. It seems like you don't need us anymore, do you?"

Dav sounded both regretful and determined.

Then, as if remembering something, he added, "By the way, as we were leaving, we spotted a warship heading in your direction. It looked like Ronan the Accuser. Quill's stirred up some serious trouble. As a friend, here's my advice: don't get involved. Run. Ronan's not someone to mess with."

After saying his piece, Dav abruptly ended the call.

"Damn it!"

Yondu crushed the communicator in his hand.

"Looks like you don't need to explain anything to them—they've already taken your ship," Blake quipped, fanning the flames.

"Shut it! Why don't you figure out how to deal with Ronan instead? He's after what's in your hands, not mine or Peter's," Yondu snapped, pulling Star-Lord back a step to show he wasn't involved.

"Actually, Yondu, I forgot to mention earlier," Star-Lord said nervously. "We were waiting for Ronan to show up. I had Blake hide because we didn't want Ronan to catch him running off."

Star-Lord went on to explain how Blake had once single-handedly piloted a small ship to scare off an entire fleet of Ronan's forces.

This made Yondu highly suspicious that Blake belonged to some powerful cosmic faction. After all, not only did Blake have incredible skills, but he also had a ship capable of defeating a fleet.

While Yondu grilled Star-Lord about Blake's background, Ronan's warship emerged from the planet's atmosphere—a colossal vessel with massive rotating wings, far more intimidating than the fleet from before.

It was the Dark Aster, Ronan's most powerful warship, famously used in his final assault on Xandar in *Guardians of the Galaxy*.

"Ronan's here. According to the plan, shouldn't you be hiding? Didn't you say you'd had a previous encounter with him via communications?" Star-Lord asked.

"No need for that," Blake replied with a dismissive wave.

Last time, it was ship-to-ship combat, and he'd held back to protect Star-Lord. But now, with Yondu on their side, the three of them could handle this head-on.

Blake reached out, opening a fiery portal and burning a massive hole in the warship's hull.

Grabbing Star-Lord and Yondu, he opened another portal above the hole and led them directly into Ronan's ship.

As they advanced, Blake led the way with fire, Yondu covered their rear with his Yaka arrow, and Star-Lord picked off stragglers with his dual blasters.

The trio made their way toward the bridge, facing waves of Kree soldiers. Yet not a single one could slow them down.

On the bridge, Ronan watched the screens as his soldiers were effortlessly taken out. A flicker of fear flashed in his eyes, though it was quickly replaced by a maddened desperation.

"What the hell is that C-53 planet? Our records say it's a backward, barren world. Damn it! Is its specialty producing monsters like *this*?"

Specialty? Monsters? Worse, he seemed to keep running into them.
