Chapter 12: CH 11: Stealing the Super Spiders
- (8 PM, ESU)
"Peter, are you in position?" Peter heard Gwen's voice from his earpiece. She was at home and had her computer ready for tracking the spiders in the city. He hadn't just gotten rid of the tracker that Osborn had put on him.
Although he had deactivated it, he had messed with it to use it for himself now. And Gwen was in charge of keeping an eye on the location and giving directions.
He obviously didn't need it, but he couldn't just tell Gwen that he had left a piece of himself with each of the spiders to make sure where they were. He smirked as he landed on a rooftop close to the lab "I am now. And it seems our friends are too."
"Are they loading the spiders already?"
"From the looks of it, it seems they're almost done."
"Then you better hurry up. This is the perfect chance to stick the tracker to the van. And it should be pretty easy with your invisibility."
"Sure. Just give me a second. Bravo going dark." He smirked, earning a small chuckle from Gwen as well. Turning invisible, he activated his Spider-Sense. After finding the best route, he shot a web to bring himself to a lamp post before he jumped and landed next to the van.
He quietly avoided Oscorp's people and stuck the tracker under the van before swinging away. As he returned to the same rooftop, he spoke into the earpiece "It's done. Is the tracker working right?"
"Yup. I can see the van's location clearly. Nice job."
"Thanks."
"That's a nice GPS tracker. Definitely state of the art. Where did you get it from?"
"Heh, we have Mr Osborn to thank. He put it on me after I went to collect the money, but I obviously noticed and decided to accept the extra gift too."
"He really does seem to have an ulterior motive, huh? But still, I can't believe he just gave you a million dollars. I thought taking money for saving lives would be inefficient when you told me about it, but wow... that much money in a single day."
"I know, right? Normally, I would have gotten pissed if someone tried that kind of stunt to find me. But considering how much he paid, I couldn't care less. And actually, about the money. You're free tomorrow, right?"
"Tomorrow? You mean after school and the ESU, right?"
"Yup."
"Well, I didn't have anything special in mind. I was just planning to go home and study. Why do you ask?"
"You can study another time." He smiled "Clear your schedule for tomorrow. We're gonna go out and hang out so you can help me with spending some money."
"H-huh?" She sounded flustered, definitely blushing "Hang out? What kind of hanging out?"
"Oh, you know. Going around the city. Going shopping. Watching a movie. Romantic things like that."
"R-romantic?!" Gwen's voice grew higher in pitch, caught off guard. She cleared her throat to calm down, but he could still clearly hear the excitement she tried to hide "W-what, are you asking me out on a date again?"
"Of course I am, Gwen." He made sure she could hear the smugness in her voice "Why else would I be asking?"
She didn't answer. Not because she was shocked or something. But because she held her phone away from her as she squealed and giggled happily. She didn't want him to hear it of course, but how could he not with his super senses?
'She seriously is adorable.' He shook his head in amusement and fondness. She cleared her throat again, and he could hear her smile as she spoke "W-well, alright then. I-I'll keep my schedule free for tomorrow!"
"Fantastic. Then it's a plan. But for now, we've got work on our hands. They're beginning to move."
"O-oh. Alright, let's get serious then. Also, be sure to take the tracker after you're finished. We don't want them to know it was us."
"Will do. I'll be going after them now."
"Make sure you'll stay far enough for them to not see you."
"Roger that."
As the van started to move, he went after it. But instead of just swinging with his webs, he turned invisible and used his tendrils to chase them.
"Target turned right."
"To the left."
"They stopped at a red light, so be careful not to get spotted."
Minutes passed as they continued like this. With Gwen giving directions and Spider-Man moving with her words. He could just steal them right away, but still, this was fun too. He was dying from anticipation though, so he would be grateful if they moved to a quieter street rather than the ones with heavy traffic.
"Peter, this is the perfect chance. They turned to a quiet street to avoid traffic, so you can move now."
"Being hasty will be their downfall. Alright, I'll be moving now- huh? What in the...?"
"Peter, what's wrong? What happened?"
As his Spider-Sense went off, he activated his Spider-Sense to find out what was going on. Yet another feature he loved in every game, being able to spot the enemies instantly. And when he saw three cars approaching the van from the front and three from the back, all growing red in his dark vision, he knew what was going on.
"Gwen, seems like we're not the only ones who have eyes on the spiders."
"What? Are there enemies nearby?"
"A lot of them. And from the looks of it, they're not just random thugs either. Hmm... I have an idea."
He smirked as he stuck to a wall and waited for the show to begin.
"What are you planning, Peter?"
"These guys are armed and have the van surrounded. Meanwhile, although the guys in the van are armed, they're completely surrounded. They wouldn't be stupid enough to fight back.
I'm thinking, I'll let these guys take the spiders, then I show up, and while I beat them up, I'll pretend that I couldn't stop the ones who escaped with the spiders. Of course, the spiders will be with me, but Oscorp will blame these bozos instead.
"Hmm... that's a good plan, since stealing them again from them would be even harder. But be careful. How armed are they? What guns are they carrying?"
"Oh, you know. Just good old AK-47s."
"WHAT?! Peter, I take back what I said, that is NOT a good idea! Do this another way!"
"Nah, it's okay. I'll just go in, dodge all the bullets and beat them up."
"Peter, you are NOT faster than a bullet! Especially not AK-47's bullets!"
"How fast are AK-47's bullets anyway?"
"According to Google, about 1,600 mph (2,580 km/h)."
"Oh, that is damn fast. But I can manage."
"Peter-"
"Gwen, I'm serious. I'll be okay." He said calmly "My Spider-Sense alarms me when I'm in danger. They're bullets are fast, but I'm faster than them, their aim and their fingers. I'll be fine, alright?"
"...Haaah, alright, fine. Just be very, very careful, okay?"
"Roger that, ma'am."
As he had predicted, when the attackers blocked the road and took aim, the few people in the van got out with their arms up in surrender. Peter found something interesting. They weren't just random attackers. They were Russian, all of them.
'Well well well, doesn't that smell fishy. They're all Russian, and they knew that Oscorp would be transferring important cargo, and they knew the exact time and path too. Something big is going on here.'
When they handcuffed the guards and began to extract the cargo, he finally jumped down. The van shook as he landed on it, alerting the Russian attackers "Heeey, guys! What's up? I just saw that you were having a fun party and thought I should join in too. I'm not intruding or anything, am I?"
"It's Spider-Man!" One of them spoke in a thick Russian accent "Fry him!"
As his Spider-Sense went off intensely, he leapt to dodge the bullets. The leader of the attackers looked at the ones carrying the spiders "Hurry up! Take the cargo and drive off! We'll handle this bug!"
"Hey, spiders aren't bugs!" He flipped around, dodging the rapid fire of the AKs before shooting webs at two of them and taking the guns away "If you're going to try and insult me, at least do it right."
He webbed the guns to the pavement before he jumped up, dodging another barrage of bullets before he disarmed them too. With their guns stuck to the ground, Spider-Man cracked his knuckles "Now we can have fun."
He shot a web at one man's chest and spoke with a deep voice "GET OVER HERE!" As he pulled the man in, he came flying through the air before he grabbed his face and smashed him into the van. The van caved in from the force, and there was a loud cracking noise from the man's body.
His eyes rolled to the back of his eyes before falling limp on the ground. Spider-Man cracked his neck as the attackers frowned deeply "I don't have all day. Get over here already."
They drew their knives and rushed at him, yelling as they slashed from all directions. His Spider-Sense didn't let them do any damage, however. He just dodged one attack after the other, taking note of their skills in fighting before he finally counterattacked.
As he dodged, his kick landed on the guts of one of them before flipping and kicking his jaw, sending him flying away before he punched another one. He stumbled back before Peter kicked the legs of another guy, causing him to fall before he kicked him in the chest and sent him flying away too.
Two knives came at the same time, but he just grabbed their wrists and sighed "Sorry, guys, but I can't even pretend as if this is a struggle." He showed a bit of his real strength by raising them both into the air and smashing them onto the ground.
Seeing that they hadn't passed out, he raised them again and smashed them against their teammates. Sending them flying before he kicked another two away. A punch to the guts made another fall to his knees before he kneed him in the face.
The others were dealt with the same way. Going down after one or two hits. He stopped beating them only when the car the spiders were at drove off. But he just smirked. Of course, he had let him go only when he had already secured the spiders.
His invisible tendrils, with the spiders safe and sound in them, came back to him. Letting the little arachnids rest inside of him after he put them to sleep and locked them in his biomass.
"G, it's done." He spoke into his earpiece as he knocked out the last groaning attacker. He was taking back the tracker with his invisible tendril when Gwen answered "Alright, good job. Are you alright? You didn't get hurt, did you?"
"No, I'm safe and sound. Thanks for asking."
"Thank goodness. Then you should leave the scene already. The police will arrive there any second now."
"Alright, sure. Let me just-"
He was planning to at least make a show of going after the car, but his eyes widened when his Spider-Sense went off again. Even harsher than before, when multiple different AK-47s were being shot at him.
He quickly jumped and shot a web to swing away when extremely loud gunshots were heard. The next second, the pavement on which he was standing was basically pulverized. He looked to see an armed helicopter aiming right at him.
"Fuck me..."
"Peter?! Peter, what happened?! What was that sound just now?!"
He quickly pulled himself away with another web before answering "Can't talk right now, Gwen! A goddamn helicopter just showed up!"
"A WHAT?! Does it belong to the same guys who attacked the van?!"
"I really don't think anybody is going to put that much importance on freaking experimented spiders! These guys aren't after these spiders, they're after another spider! They're here for me!"
