Chapter 29: 29. So She’s Alice’s Mother
"Haha! This foolish woman is my aunt. Do you think I wouldn't recognize her?"
"Erina, I remember you telling me a long time ago that your only uncle died in a plane crash?"
Akira recalled.
"Oh, you sure remember that well!"
"Because I remember you crying really hard that day."
Erina's face turned red with anger and embarrassment as she shouted, "Urusai! Don't say another word!"
"Akira, don't try to change the subject. With your intelligence, if you still can't figure out who she is, I'll have to wonder if you're pretending to be clueless on purpose."
Cough cough cough!
"Leonora is Alice's mother?"
Akira hesitantly asked as realization dawned.
"And you're still calling her 'sister'!?"
Erina's voice dripped with sarcasm.
She wanted nothing more than to take a cleaver and hack this heartless playboy to pieces.
The moment Erina's words fell, the entire banquet hall grew awkwardly silent.
Could this really be happening?
Not only was this Leonora woman married, but she also had a daughter around Akira's age?
More importantly, her husband had passed away in an accident.
Where was the expected rapid aging of Westerners? How could time have seemingly skipped over Leonora?
At first, everyone assumed she was an unmarried beauty, but now, not only had she been married, but her daughter was also Akira's childhood friend?
This was beyond embarrassing.
Falling in love at first sight, only to realize she was the mother of his childhood friend? The sheer irony made them all cringe.
"Akira-kun, you know Alice?"
Leonora's expression brightened with joy.
"Aunt, don't you think it's time you slightly adjusted how you address this scumbag?"
Fuming, Erina had no way of dealing with Leonora, so she turned her wrath back on Akira, giving him another firm kick.
Why did this heartless playboy always have women fawning over him?!
"Are you the childhood friend Alice has always kept a secret from me?"
"If she doesn't have another, then I suppose that's me."
Akira, still crouched on the floor, averted his gaze, unwilling to meet Erina's or Sena's jealous, fiery stares. His voice wavered as he admitted the truth.
"Oh, yay! This is wonderful!"
"I finally get to meet the childhood friend Alice has been keeping from me all this time!"
Leonora let out a delighted squeal before wrapping her arms around Akira, pulling him tightly into her embrace.
His head vanished into her ample bosom.
Seeing this, countless women at the banquet clenched their fists, eyes burning with envy and frustration.
This shameless Nordic widow!
"Aunt! Leonora! You foolish woman! What exactly do you think you're doing?!"
"I'm calling Alice right now!"
"This is just a traditional greeting from my homeland!"
"Erina, you really should expand your horizons."
Rather than letting go, Leonora even had the nerve to chide Erina for being uncultured.
That was the final straw.
"You not only got my name wrong again—"
"But what kind of country greets people like this?!"
"Akira is practically in heaven right now!"
"Akira is Alice's childhood friend and will one day be her husband."
"This is simply a sign of affection among family members."
"Erina, I've always hugged you like this, haven't I?"
Erina instantly recalled all the times this "good aunt" of hers had smothered her in similar embraces as a child.
The psychological trauma still haunted her.
"And you still have the audacity to call him 'little brother'?!"
"Why not?"
"Alice and Akira aren't married yet."
"Until then, I'll keep things separate between them."
"Besides, Erina, don't you think this makes me seem younger?"
"At least Akira has good taste. He knew to call me 'sister.'"
"And he said it before knowing who I was! That means it was from the heart!"
Leonora proudly gloated.
You shameless woman, do you even realize how old you are?!
"You old hag, I can't take this anymore!"
"I'm calling Alice right now!"
Leonora sighed but finally let go of Akira, though she pouted as she did so.
Still, she shot Erina an indignant glare before saying, "Go ahead, I don't mind."
"Erina, all you do is run crying to Alice whenever you're mad."
"Alice isn't even older than me!"
"We were born on the same day!"
Fuming, Erina stuffed her phone back into her pocket, arguing with Leonora once again.
They had fought countless times over which of them was older, but neither would ever back down.
Finally free, Akira inhaled deeply, only to feel his head spinning the moment he stood up.
Losing balance, he staggered forward and crashed back into Leonora's arms.
His head sank into her chest once more.
Standing inches away, Erina's eyes instantly turned blood-red with rage.
"Akira! I'm getting a knife from the kitchen and killing you right now!"
"Erina, let me explain!"
"I swear, this was an accident!"
Akira hastily grabbed her wrist, stopping her from running off.
"When I stood up just now, I blacked out for a moment!"
"I swear I wasn't trying to take advantage of Leonora!"
"Sure, I may have too many childhood friends, but I'm not some lowlife who purposefully exploits women!"
"That's against my principles!"
"Hmph! Like I'd believe that a trained swordmaster like you would suddenly lose his balance!"
Erina pouted, crossing her arms in defiance.
But even she had to admit that Akira's words were reasonable.
This childhood friend of hers was a womanizer, but he had never been the type to take advantage of others maliciously.
