Chapter 15: chapter 15: midnight bloom
"Morning Emily." Penelope greeted happily when she saw Emily step into the dinning room in a pale blue dress.
Emily smiled back at her."morning Penny." Emily said as she took the seat next to Penelope she paused when she notice that it was only the two of them that sat on the big table.
"Where's everyone else?" Emily asked, looking around the empty table.
Penelope shrugged. "Oh, they're all busy studying. Father said they had some important matters to attend to, so they're all in the book room."
Emily's eyes widened slightly. "The book room? That sounds serious."
Penelope nodded. "Yes, it is. Father said it's something related to the council."
Emily's eyes sparkled with curiosity, but she tried to contain her excitement, remembering her place. "Oh, I see," she said, trying to sound nonchalant. "I'm sure it's all very important."
Penelope nodded, taking a bite of her toast. "Yes, Father seems quite concerned about it. But I'm sure it's nothing to worry about."
Emily nodded, As they began to eat, Emily couldn't help but notice that Penelope barely spoke while eating. She would occasionally nod or smile, but mostly she focused on her food. Emily thought to herself that this must be the quality of being a lady. Back at home, she loved talking during dinner, and her parents would often remind her that as a lady, she shouldn't talk at the table. But she never took it seriously.
Now, as she watched Penelope, Emily admired her ability to keep quiet while eating. She seemed so refined and elegant, and Emily felt a pang of determination to emulate her. She focused on her own food, trying to mimic Penelope's poised demeanor.
The silence between them was comfortable, and Emily found herself enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. She glanced at Penelope occasionally, noticing the way she delicately cut her food and took small bites. Emily tried to do the same, feeling a sense of pride in her own attempts at refinement.
After breakfast Penelope suggested they walked in the garden , Emily had no objections cause even she wanted a refreshing walk after breakfast.
As they strolled through the garden, Emily couldn't help but admire the vibrant flowers and lush greenery surrounding her. The air was crisp and clean, filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers.
As they turned a corner, Emily's eyes landed on a dark blue flower that caught her attention. It was unlike any flower she had ever seen before. The petals were a deep, rich blue, and the stem was adorned with sharp thorns. Despite its slightly tattered appearance, the flower was still breathtakingly beautiful.
Emily stopped in her tracks, her eyes fixed on the flower. "Penny, look at this," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Penelope followed Emily's gaze and smiled. "Ah, you've found the Midnight Bloom," she said, her eyes sparkling with delight.
"The Midnight Bloom?" Emily repeated, her curiosity piqued.
Penelope nodded. "Yes, it's a rare and exquisite flower. According to legend, it only blooms under the light of the full moon."
Emily's eyes widened in wonder. "That's beautiful," she breathed.
Penelope smiled. "Yes, it is. And it's said to have healing properties, too. The thorns are supposed to be able to draw out impurities from the skin."
Emily's eyes were still fixed on the flower, mesmerized by its beauty. "I've never seen anything like it," she said, her voice full of awe.
Penelope smiled, pleased that Emily appreciated the Midnight Bloom's beauty. "It's one of the rarest flowers in our garden," she said. " Robert had it planted few years back ,he got it from a black witch."
Emily's eyes widened in surprise. "A black witch?" she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
Penelope nodded. "Yes, Robert said she was a kind and gentle soul, with a deep understanding of the natural world. He brought the flower back from one of his travels and had it planted here in the garden."
Emily's gaze returned to the Midnight Bloom, and she felt a shiver run down her spine. There was something mystical and otherworldly about the flower, something that seemed to draw her in with an irresistible force.
"It's beautiful," Emily breathed, her eyes still fixed on the flower. "But it's also a little... unsettling."
Penelope smiled. "Yes, the Midnight Bloom can have that effect on people. Some say it's because of its association with the black witch, while others claim it's because of its rare and unusual properties."
Emily's curiosity was piqued. "What kind of properties?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Penelope leaned in, a conspiratorial look on her face. "Some say the Midnight Bloom has the power to reveal hidden truths and uncover secrets," she whispered. "Others claim it can grant the beholder visions of the past and present."
Emily's eyes widened in amazement. She had never heard of a flower with such extraordinary properties. She felt a sudden urge to reach out and touch the Midnight Bloom, to see if its powers were real.
Just as Emily was about to reach out and touch the Midnight Bloom, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching. She turned to see Robert and Lucas strolling into the garden, looking like they were enjoying a leisurely morning walk.
Lucas was eating a raw strawberry, his black hair messy as usual, and his black shirt and trousers were perfectly tailored to his lean physique. He looked like a gentleman, despite his rough-around-the-edges demeanor.
Robert, on the other hand, looked every inch the gentleman, with his white shirt, brown trousers, and neatly brushed hair. He walked with a confident stride, his hands folded neatly behind his back.
As they approached, Emily noticed that Penelope's cheeks flushed a delicate pink, and she looked away, trying to compose herself. Emily raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Penelope's reaction to Robert's presence.
"Good morning, ladies," Robert said, bowing slightly as he approached. "I see you're admiring the Midnight Bloom. Isn't it a beauty?"
Penelope smiled, still looking a bit flustered. "Yes, it's lovely. Emily was just asking me about its properties."
Robert's eyes lit up with interest. "Ah, yes. The Midnight Bloom is indeed a rare and special flower. Lucas, here, has been studying its properties, haven't you, Lucas?"
Lucas nodded, his eyes fixed on the flower. "Yes, I have. It's a fascinating specimen."he said as he gaze moved to her. "You ladies must be enjoying the garden fresh air."
