MHA : Rabbit & Spider

Chapter 10: MHA : Chapter 10 : Exam Day I

Peter Parker walked the busy streets of Musutafu, the city currently undergoing a rush of people running around trying to get to where they needed to be on this cool February morning. He was no different, much like everyone else, he also had somewhere to be.

That 'somewhere' was none other than UA high school, the best hero school in all of Japan by far, Peter was making his way there since today was February 26th.

The UA entrance exam.

His audition to get into the prestigious academy, and in turn, get his hero career started.

The right way this time.

Was he nervous? Obviously. The last 10 months have been spent building up to this moment, studying and training whenever he could. This day could make or break his future as Spider-Man, so it was his responsibility to pass that exam with flying colors.

The boy looked over his clothes and he crossed the street on his way to the train station. It was the first time he'd worn his uniform from Aldera Junior High since his house arrest, and man did he dislike it.

Maybe it was the American in him or the cultural clash but Peter absolutely hated the idea of having to wear school uniforms, it took May bribing him with pancakes on the first day of school to get him to put it on.

His phone buzzed and snapped him out of his thoughts, he took out the device from his pocket and frowned at seeing the amount of cracks on the screen that it got from Peter carrying it around in patrol.

'I really need a new one… I'd try to fix the screen myself but It'll probably shatter even more' He thought to himself as he typed in his password, '151962'.

Peter smiled when he saw that the notification came from a text Midoriya had sent.

...

[ Midoriya (Hero Fanboy) ]

{ All Might: Hey! I just wanted to let you know I got done with the exam, I think it went very well! }

{ Spider: That's great to hear, man. Did you take the grappling hook or the all-purpose goggles? }

{ All Might: I took the grappling hook, I felt it was appropriate since it was the one I made without help. }

{ Spider: Cool, I'm omw to the train station to meet up with Rumi and go to UA. You better wish me luck! }

{ All Might: Good luck, Parker! }

{ All Might: Also, there's this weird girl with pink hair that won't leave me alone until I agree to 'Make support babies' with her. What should I do?? }

{ Spider: You're on your own lol. }

...

The boy put his phone in his pocket when he noticed he was already at the steps of the train station. It certainly made him happy that Midoriya thought the support entrance exam went well. They had spent at least 7 straight weeks of non-stop work to get him all caught up with support studies and then Midoriya spent 3 weeks making a support item to show off.

Peter would be lying if he said he wasn't proud of how far his friend had come. Over the past months of having someone believe in him, he'd gotten a lot more confidence.

And God knows he needed it.

Badly.

His feet carried him down the stone steps, businessmen, and students zipping by with a lack of care for the world around it. He felt a soft smile appear on his face

It reminded him of New York, just walking through uncaring crowds who all had their own goals and tasks… It brought the boy comfort, weird as that may be.

The sounds of a train finally reaching the coming to a stop and opening its floodgates of people filled the station, Peter felt even more nostalgia now. It was the same as back home, the only difference being those pair of fluffy white ears poking above the crowd, and the tanned girl they belonged to.

"Fucking finally! I've been waiting 5 minutes, man! What took you so long?!" She scolded, her foot was tapping on the ground rapidly as she put her hands on her hips.

She was wearing the same clothes from when they met in that cell, a school girl uniform along with white fluffy socks and gloves, the only difference was that her hair had grown up to reach down to her hips.

It seemed fitting in a way, today was a special day for both of them, after all.

"Hey, Rumi! Sorry, I needed to visit someone last minute, you know? We still got 50 minutes before the exam starts, anyway!" He stood beside the girl, her foot's tapping began to slow just a bit.

You know? Peter was glad he had Rumi with him to go through today. While the girl might have been brash, super intense, a tiny bit (decently) crazy, and a major pain to deal with at times, she was a good friend.

Underneath all that battle crazy and tough personality, Peter knew she cared about things. What those things were, he didn't know. But the fact that she was thoughtful when you got to know her still stands.

She could easily be described as his best friend, she mostly made herself his best friend by never leaving him alone during the past ten months and calling/texting all the time, but whatever.

All in all, he was glad they were friends.

The pair board the train that would take them to UA and took their seats in front of each other. Peter sent a quick text to May saying he was on the train now and decided to try to strike up a conversation with the girl.

"Nervous?"

She scoffed and waved a hand dismissively. "As if! I already know I'm gonna ace that shit! How couldn't I? I'm me, after all."

At least one of them was confident in it.

He envied that confidence.

He could only give a small chuckle as he pocketed his phone, the teen looked out the window and saw the buildings and people passing by, it still weirded him out how the track randomly transitions above ground at times.

"Hey, I never asked but how'd your dad take the whole 'house arrest' thing? My aunt yelled at me a lot." He asked, leaving out the more emotional half of that night.

Rumi cringed at the mention, her eyes narrowing as she searched for the right words to say.

"Oh, you know… He got mad and… stuff." She responded, her mind already remembering that night.

...

10 months ago, the Usagiyama household

"Dad! Let me the hell go already!" The girl yelled at her father, who was currently crying tears of joy.

At the moment, the pair reached their modest home, Daiki wrapped his daughter in a crushing bear hug (Rabbit hug?) and had been crying for the past 15 minutes as he held her off the ground.

"I am so glad you're alright! Don't ever do that me again, sweetie!" The well-built man laughed through his tears, spinning in a circle as his daughter wiggled to try and get out of the embrace.

"Put me down, old man!"

He didn't let her go until he stopped crying 20 minutes later.

...

"Rumi? You good over there, man?" Peter called, snapping the girl out of her flashback that he didn't get to see. He only received a nod as the girl stretched in her seat and tapped her foot. Thankfully for the girl, he decided not to pry on it.

They sat in peaceful silence for about 2 minutes until she decided to break it.

"How long till we get there? The waiting's killin' me!" She asked. Peter knew she was getting impatient, she'd been tapping her foot and drumming her fingers on the seat for the whole ride.

He checked his cracked phone and looked out the window, watching the world go by. "4 minutes tops, the exam isn't until like half an hour. Gives me time to hype myself up so that's good." He chuckled slightly, running a hand through his messy brown locks.

His friend only raised a single white eyebrow at the statement, her ears fell the slightest bit to show her confusion. It was nice to be with someone who wasn't that hard to read.

Truth is, Peter was getting more and more anxious the longer he sat on that train, getting closer to the exam. He knew full well that he'd most likely pass but the possibility of failing was still on his mind.

It terrified him.

The thought of having people put faith in you and give you a second chance to do good in the world the right way only to fail? To let them down no matter how hard you try? That was the thought that has kept him up at night for the past week.

Not like he got much sleep anyway. Sometimes he'd wake up at around times he used to go on patrol out of force of habit.

He heard the train coming reaching the stop before the one that'd take them to UA, just a little more until showtime.

"Cool, I can't wait to get first place on that thing!" His friend laughed, she cracked her knuckles in anticipation.

Oh, he really envied that confidence.
