Chapter 201: The Angel of Holy Flame - Seraphiel_2
First was Tringle from Edith Academy, the rare genius known as the 'Bone Artisan'. He was not only skilled in a variety of secret techniques from the Withering Sequence, but also rose to fame in the current artistic world through his exquisite bone art pieces, adored by many collectors.
As the president of the 'Death Rose Society', Tringle was one of the most well-known students within Edith Academy. However, he rarely showed his face in public and was recognized mostly through his works.
In response to the host's somewhat exaggerated introduction, he shook his head slightly, but offered no explanation. While it was true that he excelled at bone crafts, he had to admit that the circle itself was quite small, so rising to prominence wasn't particularly difficult — it was nothing too special to be proud of.
After all, it came down to his family heritage, since his ancestors were Transcendent beings who practiced the Necromancer and Withering Sequences. Compared to other Transcendents of the same Sequence, he had a natural advantage of accessing more knowledge and accumulated learning from a younger age, giving him a significant edge over his peers.
However, being a Transcendent Sequence did not guarantee that early advancement would lead to a far-reaching future. His family heritage could raise his lower limit, but elevating his upper limit was not easy. Compared to others, his generational experience allowed him to avoid many detours, which was his true valuable advantage.
Removing the hood from his head and revealing his dark grey short hair, Tringle gazed at the white-robed student opposite him, who, by the outline, appeared to be a woman.
Indeed, after Tringle showed his face, the figure opposite also took off her hood, revealing wavy golden hair that reflected dazzlingly under the venue lights, as beautiful as gold itself, with a pair of clear blue eyes on her fair face — pure and tenacious, like jade.
With just a fleeting glance, Tringle knew that the woman before him would not be easy to deal with.
Although Edith Academy's goal had always been to defeat Saint Yingo, students from generations of Edith had to admit that Lelisa Academy was their most pressuring opponent.
This conservative church academy always promoted a life of asceticism. The students it produced might be unfamiliar with today's advanced technology and new developments, but in terms of tenacity and resistance to temptation, they were unmatched by students of other academies.
This strong willpower provided them with a robust resistance against the soul-damaging methods of the Withering Sequence. Coupled with the Radiant Feather Sequence, which naturally countered the Withering Sequence, Edith usually sent out students from the Natural Sequence to combat Lelysia, in order to avoid disadvantages at the Transcendent Sequence level. But this time, the society chosen for the confrontation was the 'Death Rose Society', which specialized in the Withering Sequence, so they had no choice but to face it head-on.
"Combat begins!" A few seconds after both parties sized each other up, the referee declared the start.
As the fight commenced, Tringle swung his wand, causing the three levitating sapphires embedded within to spin, creating a powerful sucking vortex around him. The Aijieka Particles in the air were swiftly converted into Withering Sequence magic power, forming into pale blue Light Sand that gathered in the hollow gems of the staff, causing its light to coalesce and brighten.
Facing such a scene, the blonde female student clasped her hands around the sword's hilt, raised it in front of her, and closed her eyes in prayer. The sacred and tranquil chanting sounded like chimes of gold and jade, followed by a strand of pale fire igniting at the tip of the Sword Edge, then slowly spreading over the blade until the very hilt was enveloped in the pale flame.
The purest energy burgeoned in the spherical part of the sword hilt, with ivory vines slowly winding around her fingers and the hilt, then light arcs stretched from the crossing of the hilt and blade to form a ring-shaped guard which was entwined with pure white vines and vivid pale-gold leaves. As a golden leaf fell, it ignited mid-air, burning the air with a colorless pale gold Flame that caused visual distortions. Even a small piece burned through a deep hole in the platform below.
"Lelysia Academy, Seraphiel."
Seeing the figure engulfed in pale flames on the stage, the audience silently mouthed this previously unknown name.
Then a circle of light abruptly spread out, and snow-white burning wings opened behind her, allowing the female student to gently ascend. Beneath her blazing golden hair, a mark of a golden flame began to appear on her pure brow, signifying that she had received recognition from an Angel lying dormant in the depths of the Aijieka Sea and was granted to act with part of its power.
"Holy Flame · Jessica," she uttered the name of the Angel, then swung down her longsword.
With burning wings on her back, Seraphiel dived down from the sky, while Tringle prepared himself on the other side, with his gem-studded staff glowing as the dark vortex instantly contracted, then a beam of Annihilation shot towards the diving figure.
The colliding beam of restrained light and the burning sword clashed fiercely; the Flame rapidly cooled, and the blade in Seraphiel's hands was nearly sheared off, leaving only the hilt behind. At that moment, Tringle swung his staff again and, as he fully concentrated on Cursing Chant, the three azure crystals twinkled, and then three weaker beams of Annihilation shot out.
Drawing back the hilt of her sword, Seraphiel's eyes widened, and then a glistening burst of Flame rose in front of her, forming into a transparent barrier to withstand the three approaching beams, boiling and churning on its surface, dimming the light in her wings behind her.
