Chapter 80: Calm the girls down(1)
Leaving the hall, they headed toward the Redgrave residence. Leon couldn't rely on his ship for transportation all the time—the capital simply wasn't big enough to justify it.
On the way, Olivia did her best to cheer up Angelica after everything that had happened. She understood perfectly well how difficult things were for her, so she started conversations on various interesting topics. Before long, Leon joined in as well, and little by little, Angelica began to look more at ease.
After a while, they entered a park. Spotting a bench, Angelica suggested they sit down and take a break. Leon and Olivia had no objections. As they continued their conversation, Angelica suddenly smiled slightly and said:
"Thank you so much."
She turned to Olivia and added:
"Livia, thank you for your support and kind words. They really helped me calm down."
Then she looked at Leon.
"And you, Leon, I owe you thanks for everything."
"Oh, come on, no need for that," Leon quickly waved it off with an awkward smile.
But Angelica continued:
"You were the only one brave enough to stand against the prince. Honestly, that was a foolish decision… but getting into a conflict with him was even more foolish. Ugh, I really was an idiot," she sighed, lowering her gaze.
Hearing that, both Olivia and Leon immediately tried to reassure her.
"You did the right thing, Angie!" Olivia exclaimed, waving her arms dramatically.
"You were right from the very beginning. There was no mistake in what you did. Even if you acted in the heat of the moment, your words and decisions were completely justified," Leon stated firmly. "I saw what Marie was doing with my own eyes, so I know you weren't lying."
Olivia nodded vigorously, backing up Leon's words.
Angelica looked at them in surprise. Then, after a moment, she smiled and thanked them once again:
"Thank you both so much! Olivia, for being such a wonderful friend… And Leon, for your courage."
Suddenly, she covered her mouth with her hand and added:
"Although… you can be a bit vulgar… and sometimes, just a complete idiot."
After saying that, she burst into laughter. Olivia couldn't hold back either and joined in.
Leon frowned, making an exaggeratedly offended face and dramatically exclaimed:
"Who are you calling an idiot?!"
He intentionally made his expression even more ridiculous to make them laugh even harder. Seeing this, the girls completely lost it, laughing so hard they could barely breathe.
But then, all of a sudden, Angelica stopped laughing. Her expression shifted as if she was deep in thought. A moment passed before she looked at Leon and spoke:
"Leon, please… give up on the duel."
The mood changed instantly. Olivia, who had been laughing just moments ago, froze, anxiously shifting her gaze between Angelica and Leon.
"Why?" Leon asked, frowning. "Even if I back out now, my reputation is already ruined. I'd bet money that while we're sitting here, the nobles are already trashing my room."
"You are correct, Master," Luxion's voice suddenly spoke through the hidden earpiece in Leon's right ear. "I have installed several hidden cameras in your room. Currently, more than thirty individuals are inside, vandalizing the place. Some of them are acquaintances of yours. Judging by their expressions, they were forced into it."
Leon merely chuckled to himself. "Didn't expect them to move so fast… It hasn't even been two hours."
Angelica continued:
"That's why you should withdraw, Leon, before it's too late. I want to help you, but right now, I have no influence. I'm sure that once my family finds out about this, they'll refuse to support me even more. If you lose… they could execute you. Your attempt to gain my father's favor is way too risky."
Olivia nervously glanced back and forth between Angelica and Leon, clearly disturbed by her words.
"Huh? Who said I'm trying to get your father's attention?" Leon asked, looking genuinely confused.
Angelica froze, her face showing a mix of surprise and… a slight blush.
"You… You're an idiot! You're a complete idiot!" she blurted out. "You just made enemies of the royal family! Whether you win or lose, your life is still at risk! So why the hell are you doing this?!"
Leon simply shrugged and answered nonchalantly:
"I'm sick of seeing their smug faces. Those five morons get whatever they want and still have the nerve to complain. It pisses me off."
As he spoke, he rolled up his sleeves, revealing his well-trained muscles.
Angelica was about to yell at him for being so careless, but the moment she saw his arms, she paused for a second.
"Just trust in my victory. And don't worry—nothing bad will happen. I have a good relationship with the queen, and after I win, I'll explain everything to her. Things will go back to normal," he said with a confident smile, giving her a thumbs-up.
Angelica, finally pulling her gaze away from his arms, closed her eyes and let out a small laugh.
"You really are an idiot."
