Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Demon Slayer HQ
Following the guidance of the messenger crow, Tamayo led the group to the newly established Demon Slayer Corps headquarters.
They arrived at a sea of flowers—a breathtaking landscape of wisteria trees.
The vibrant purple blossoms weighed down the branches, their delicate petals draping gracefully toward the ground.
All around them, rows upon rows of wisteria trees stretched endlessly.
For demons, wisteria was a deadly poison.
But Tamayo had her own ways of dealing with it.
The carriage carrying the group moved slowly through the wisteria forest, eventually revealing rows of newly built structures.
This was the new Demon Slayer Corps headquarters.
Swordsmen came and went, their presence constant.
Above them, messenger crows flew back and forth without rest.
In this era, where there were no telephones, these crows were the main means of communication.
They formed a vast and intricate network.
The leader of the Demon Slayer Corps gathered intelligence from all over, analyzed it, and issued missions accordingly.
Even while stationed at headquarters, he could direct countless Demon Slayers in their hunt for demons.
It was because of the Demon Slayer Corps that this small island nation had not been completely overrun by demons.
And yet, ordinary people remained unaware of their existence.
In a way, they were the unseen heroes of this world.
Looking at the Demon Slayer Corps before him, Yoriichi's eyes were filled with nostalgia.
Long ago, when he had introduced the Breathing Techniques, the entire Demon Slayer Corps had been ecstatic.
He had fought alongside those who shared his ideals, battling demons together.
Back then, even his older brother had been a member of the Corps.
Time had passed in the blink of an eye. Nearly sixty years had gone by since he last set foot in this place.
He never expected that he would one day return to the Demon Slayer Corps.
…
The sun had not yet risen. If it had, Tamayo would have been unable to accompany them.
They finally arrived at their destination—a beautiful and expansive Japanese-style courtyard.
At its center stood a grand mansion.
The courtyard was adorned with stone benches and tables, surrounded by a variety of flowers and plants.
As they ascended the steps, the wooden floors of the mansion were lined with traditional tatami mats.
They walked through the courtyard, moving toward the heart of the Demon Slayer Corps.
Lu Mingfei curiously observed his surroundings.
Everywhere he looked, swordsmen carried weapons just like him. Their auras were distinct and easy to recognize.
These were all Breathing Technique swordsmen.
Under the eaves of the courtyard, torches burned brightly, casting flickering shadows.
In this era, fire was the only means of illumination in the darkness of night.
The sky was hazy, with faint hints of light signaling the imminent rise of the sun.
The current head of the Ubuyashiki Clan had already been waiting at the entrance for some time.
When he saw Tamayo and Yoriichi, he immediately knew that the people he had been expecting had arrived.
As for the two individuals behind them, he did not recognize them.
However, he could sense that they, too, were human.
"My apologies for not greeting you properly. I should have come to welcome you myself, but my body simply does not allow it… cough, cough."
The Ubuyashiki leader let out a few weak coughs. His frail body seemed as though it could collapse at any moment.
Despite being so young—barely in his early twenties—he was already terminally ill.
"Master, since they've arrived, let's head inside."
A man wearing a red flame-patterned haori stepped forward and stood respectfully beside the Ubuyashiki leader.
This man was none other than the current Flame Hashira.
The Ubuyashiki leader gazed at Yoriichi, his lifeless eyes filled with regret.
"Let's go inside."
In the grand hall of the mansion, the Ubuyashiki leader was helped to his seat by two children.
His wife quietly began preparing tea for the guests.
Soon, steaming cups of tea were placed before everyone.
Yoriichi glanced at the deep scars on the Ubuyashiki leader's forehead.
He knew that this head of the Ubuyashiki family, like those before him, would not live much longer.
"I never imagined I would have the chance to meet you, Yoriichi-san, and looking so young at that. Though Tamayo mentioned it in her letter, seeing it in person still astonishes me."
The Ubuyashiki leader spoke softly, his tone exceptionally gentle.
Yoriichi cast a brief glance at Ren Asakura, sitting beside him.
"I simply encountered some… unexpected events. I never thought I'd return to the Demon Slayer Corps either."
Ren Asakura and Lu Mingfei remained silent, sipping their tea.
They sat like two outsiders, quietly observing everything.
After a brief pause, the Ubuyashiki leader spoke again.
"Since the Demon Slayer Corps was founded, countless warriors have sacrificed their lives. If not for the Breathing Techniques you left behind, Yoriichi-san, we would never have been able to close the gap between us and the demons."
Yoriichi finally spoke, his voice calm and steady.
"There will be no more sacrifices. I will end this."
The Ubuyashiki leader hesitated before continuing.
"The Demon King, Muzan, has haunted our family for a thousand years. Yoriichi-san, I do not doubt your strength, but recently, there have been major shifts on the demon's side. The Twelve Kizuki and other powerful demons have suddenly vanished. Based on reliable intelligence, they seem to be gathering in one place."
His words carried a deeper implication—Muzan's forces were consolidating.
Even the strongest warrior needed allies.
If the demons had gathered in great numbers, then even someone as powerful as Yoriichi, who had once defeated Muzan, might find himself outnumbered.
Even if he could defeat the Twelve Kizuki and the elite demons, such a battle would surely drain his strength.
Humans and demons are different—humans need rest.
The Ubuyashiki leader was worried that something unexpected might happen.
But Yoriichi's tone was firm.
"I will take them all down together!"
This was the confidence of someone standing at the pinnacle of combat strength. Even Kokushibo, Upper Rank One, had been cut down by him in a single strike.
The other Twelve Kizuki would likely be no different.
And besides, he had also called Ren Asakura.
Even if he somehow lost, Ren Asakura would step in.
The Ubuyashiki leader sighed lightly and said,
"Yoriichi-san, you don't have to shoulder this burden alone. The Demon Slayer Corps is not as weak as you might think. If we're going to attack Muzan, we must give it everything we have."
This was an opportunity.
The Ubuyashiki leader wanted to seize this chance.
He planned for the Demon Slayer Corps to hold back the Twelve Kizuki and the other demons.
King versus king. General versus general.
Let Yoriichi, at his peak, face off against Muzan.
The Ubuyashiki leader was certain that this time, Yoriichi would not let Muzan escape again.
But Yoriichi did not want anyone else to sacrifice themselves.
Too many lives had already been lost in the fight against demons.
Meanwhile, Tamayo had arrived at her research room within the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters.
This room housed her research notes and experimental equipment.
She carefully placed down several syringes and vials of reagents.
Each of these toxins was specifically designed to target demons.
Tamayo chose to take them with her.
They might prove useful in the battle ahead.
"That damn man…"
Just thinking about what was to come made her emotions flare uncontrollably.
After all this time, she finally had the chance to take revenge on him.
Now, all that was left was for the Ubuyashiki leader and Yoriichi to finalize their plans.
But their discussion did not go as planned.
Yoriichi refused to let the Demon Slayer Corps get involved.
The Ubuyashiki leader wanted them to assist, ensuring absolute success.
Standing beside his master, the Flame Hashira could no longer hold back.
He stepped forward.
