Chapter 123: The Genesis Corps
The Genesis Corps
Christopher was expecting some odd interference or something similar to occur when he entered the Realm gate. But surprisingly, there was nothing of the sort.
In fact, if not for the fact that he knew that they were going through the Realm gate, he probably wouldn't have even known that they were going through something like a portal.
But alas, he did, and...
'Woah.' Christopher couldn't help but marvel at what he saw.
The hidden realm stretched endlessly for as far as the eye, both ordinary and enhanced, could see. An Expanse of snow under a pale sky.
Towering spires of jagged ice loomed, the shortest of which being dozens of kilometers tall, their crystalline surfaces creating the right conditions for the light to pass through and create fragmented rainbows.
Snow fell in an unnatural spirit, slow and delicate, almost hypnotic. The ground was an uneven sheet of slick, icy, and frostbite terrain.
It was beautiful in a strange, cold way. If that made any sense.
Still, it was far from silent.
Christopher could hear roars from several powerful creatures all over, and besides hearing, he could see quite a few of them as well.
On one of the towering spires of ice, a bird that looked like it was made of pure ice shards was battling against something that resembled a large chameleon.
Christopher blinked a few times as he suddenly realized something.
'Holy - those spires are dozens of kilometers tall. The fact I can make out those creatures means that they are massive.' However, Christopher was certain that these two creatures were on the lesser side when it came to both size and strength.
And they weren't the only ones he saw. On the ground, he could see groups of creatures moving in droves.
Some ways away, he could make out a group of large wolves surrounding a group of even larger bears. And at another area, he spotted a strange icy blue flower that was a few dozen meters tall. Which wasn't all that much compared to the size of a great deal of the creatures there.
The flower gave off an appealing aura that attracted the surrounding creatures. However, that was just a facade, as the flower was just the bait, and the real monstrosity was buried deep in the ground. And whenever a creature got too close, a frost vine would shoot out of the ground at the speed of light and ensnare them and pull them down under where they would be devoured, and there wouldn't be a trace left.
All of these were just a few of the horrors Christopher saw.
'It's a lot.' He nodded to himself, and then he smiled.
'But I can work with this.' Christopher thought.
He spread his senses far and wide, not worrying about being discovered since he was within his Dimension and was thus protected by its Veil. And he nodded when he didn't spot the ships of the Scions anywhere. Unsurprisingly, they had been scattered around.
'This place is pretty big, though.' Christopher couldn't help but be surprised.
He was able to spread his perception enough to cover an entire world before he ascended. And now that he had ascended that range had increased explosively, becoming hundreds of times greater than what he was capable of before, but even then, he wasn't able to fully grasp just how massive this realm was.
Still, considering that they would be in here for a while, it wasn't all that bad.
'The average time for the secret realm of a Paragon to be open is a few months. This can vary depending on how much energy the realm had recharged before reopening.' Christopher recalled some of the information he had learned while he spied on the different forces and the Scions.
In short, he should be here for quite a while, meaning there were lots of things to do with lots of time to do them.
'Master, the army has been gathered.' Chiara chirped in Christopher's mind, and he nodded and got up from his seat.
Without wasting any time, he teleported.
A moment later, he found himself floating high above an open field that had been cleared. In this field stood a large army of about ten thousand.
They all stood straight and calmly, all of them arranged in neat rows and columns.
One of the things that immediately caught one's attention was the equipment they all wore.
The soldiers were all clad in finely crafted equipment designed to withstand the harrowing cold of the hidden realm. Though the exact sizes and fits varied to accommodate the different races within the army, the overall theme was the same.
The dominant color palette consisted of deep blues, silvers, and whites. Closely resembling the icy environment they were soon to descend upon. Accents of black and gray also lined their gear. Each piece of armor and clothing was reinforced with a faint, frost-like texture, which was an enchantment designed to both insulate the wearer as well as enhance their resistance to the cold.
The helmets and hoods of those who wore them had sleek, aerodynamic designs, their interiors lined with runes that had a myriad of effects. The chest pieces, whether they were the heavy plate armor of the warriors or the lighter tunics for the images, scouts, and archers, were fitted with fur-lined collars that protected against the wind. Cloaks and capes, trimmed with durable white or gray fur, fell to their backs, each one enchanted to handle sneak or ranged attacks.
Their weapons, those who wielded them anyway, were also similarly themed. Their blades, staves, bows, and the like reflected the same frosted sheen as their attire. And while none of the equipment was flashy, ostentatious, or gaudy, the craftsmanship was undeniably exquisite, going to show just how incredible the automated forge within the Haven of the Enlightened was.
Despite the differences in individual pieces, the army's unified color scheme and design gave them a distinct, disciplined, and fierce appearance. They all looked like they were ready to brave the harshest of environments, but also seemed to carry an undeniable pride.
Christopher absolutely couldn't help but grin with pride and excitement.
'My army.' He sighed as he looked down on them.
The same way he looked down on them was the same way they looked up at him. He didn't bother hiding his presence since he was going to address them anyway. And his presence was overbearing as usual.
"My army." He repeated, outwardly this time. His tone was calm, but everyone heard him clearly.
"Today is the day all your training and hard work will be put to the test. Each and every one of you has worked hard, regardless of whatever race anyone is from, and has reached heights you previously thought to be impossible. And you've all grown together, formed inseparable bonds, and made yourselves into a single, proud, and cohesive unit." He spoke both to rile them up and to genuinely express his pride in them.
"You've all come a long way. But now, you will be facing your first true test since joining. The road ahead will be hard, and the training you all underwent was simply a prelude to what you will face. But I'm sure, I'm sure you will all make me proud." He grinned.
"From now on, you will all be known as the Genesis Corps, and you will spread your names far and wide. Because you are my army, and I expect nothing less." When he finished, a single, unified chant started to ring through the army.
"For the Corps!"
"For the Corps!"
"For the Corps!"
The enthusiasm was unmatched, and Christopher loved it.
Something to note was that none of the race leaders were present in the army, nor were their armies among the Genesis Corps. Instead, it was simply individuals who decided to join of their own accord.
Well, the Dragons never had an army since they never needed one in the first place, and for the most part, every dragon covered for each other. Though, Zephyr joining the Genesis Corps was quite a surprise, and it's because of him that a lot of the dragons, mostly young ones, joined as well.
Regardless, this army was pretty independent from the different forces within the Primordial Expanse, but it had the greatest overall power out of all of them.
He didn't employ the help of the race leaders or Peter and the Voidwalkers simply out of choice. Stay updated via empire
He planned to slowly and steadily unite his Dimension, and so he created this army that had no form of division between troops except through ranks and positions.
He hoped that slowly, the invisible walls between each race, especially those who initially had animosity toward each other, would slowly crumble, and everyone would start to come together.
There were many ways to achieve this, but his hope was that, by fighting side by side, the soldiers would see that they were on the same side, and those who weren't a part of the army would see their brethren defending someone they considered an enemy before with their lives, and would start to get curious, and then ultimately start to warm up to them.
It was bound to be a long process, but he easily confident that it would work.
