My Daddy Hides His Power

Chapter 264 - Side story Part 1 Chapter 4

Lilith pretended to cry as she fell into Cheshire’s arms.

“Sniff sniff. Darling, I’ve been awake for almost three whole nights. I’m so exhausted, I could die.”

 “You look like it.”

Cheshire, with a sympathetic expression, gently stroked the area beneath Lilith’s eyes and asked,

“By the way… what do you mean?”

“About what?”

“No, you just said something about a proposal…”

“Oh! Mhm, that’s right. Will you answer?”

Lilith looked up at Cheshire, wiggling her toes shyly.

“You didn’t change your mind because I made you wait too long, did you?”

 “No.”

Cheshire was flustered but shook his head in response.

 “…Then?”

 “….”

“Why, why? Why aren’t you answering?”

 “Do you need an answer?”

Lilith blushed at Cheshire’s immediate response.

“Let’s get married soon. We can’t keep putting it off. People are starting to gossip… Ugh, it’s getting really weird, huh?”

 “Ah.”

As expected, Lilith had ears, so she couldn’t help but know about those embarrassing rumors.

“If it’s because of that, I’m fine. The Lord of Wizard Tower still hasn’t returned, after all.”

Of course, even if Oscar comes back, marriage might be difficult.

What Lilith wants isn’t simply Oscar’s safe return.

‘We have to lift the Lord of the Wizard Tower’s ban.’

The peace that was gained through Oscar’s sacrifice.

Lilith’s resolve, not to be happy alone in the peace, was something that Cheshire knew as well.

 “…? Wait. No way.”

Cheshire, who had been somewhat dazed by Lilith’s unexpected proposal, soon realized and was surprised.

 “He came back?”

Lilith laughed at his unexpectedly excited voice.

“Mhm, it’s been a while. Four months ago.”

 “I see. Then as expected…that.”

Cheshire stared at the magic circle drawn on the floor.

 “This… a wedding present?”

 “I’m proposing to you….”

Oscar’s ban that must be lifted for marriage.

 The answer was right.

“Mhm, what you’re thinking is right. Since the Master is back, it’s time to break the ban. What did I ask you to do?”

Cheshire immediately showed the cage he had brought along.

“Do we need this to lift the restriction?”

 “Mhm.”

A threatening growl slipped out from the cage covered with a blanket.

“Are you sure… you can do this?”

 “Perhaps.”

Lilith, who had been speaking vaguely, shook her head and her eyes gleamed.

“No, I have to succeed no matter what.”

 * * *

The past three years while Oscar was away.

It had truly been a difficult time for me.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that I did all the research I could do in my life during those three years. I put in that much effort.

 ‘The three forbidden magics.’

 Resurrection, creation, and regression.

To cast these forbidden magics, which are beyond the reach of humans, a price equivalent to one’s life was required.

Oscar had already used the regression magic and was tied up in the restriction.

There was no way to nullify the restriction itself.

So the best I could think of was.

‘What if Oscar had used return magic without the restriction from the beginning?’

 That’s exactly it.

 Name it,

“It’s the improved version of regression magic!”

“Is it possible to return without any cost?”

Cheshire, who had heard everything, looked utterly incredulous.

“To be exact, it’s not that there’s no cost at all. To regress, three things are required…”

I went over to the blackboard in the lab and added as I wrote, making it easier for Cheshire to understand.

“Master was both the caster and the sacrifice. That’s because the only creatures that can be sacrificed are those with cores. But me.”

I pointed to the cage placed at the center of the magic circle.

“I’m going to replace that sacrifice with this instead of a person.”

When I removed the blanket covering the cage, what I saw was a ferocious-looking young demon beast.

 “Even demon beasts have cores.”

“So that’s why you said it was necessary.”

 “That’s right!”

I put my hands on my hips in satisfaction and continued to explain.

“If the forbidden price is substituted with a beast instead of a person, and the sacrifice is separated from the caster…”

 “….”

“Huh. Why are you like that?”

For some reason, Cheshire had a trembling expression.

“You thought of this, but do you really think the Lord of the Wizard Tower wouldn’t have? Since this trick didn’t work, he must have become the sacrifice himself.”

“Oh! Good point. Actually, there’s one more condition for the sacrifice. They need to possess a mana capacity of at least 800,000.”

 “….”

Cheshire, seemingly unable to bring himself to point out his girlfriend’s naivety, remained silent.

 ‘Right. That would be absurd.’

 Over 800,000?

A level far surpassing that of DOS ability users. Such a mana-infused beast simply doesn’t exist.

“The Lord of the Wizard Tower likely had no choice but to use himself as the sacrificial subject at the time.”

 “That’s right.”

When Oscar cast the regression spell, Dad wasn’t there.

He gave up his life in exchange for reviving me, offering his own existence as the price.

Then, at that time, the only person Oscar could have used as a sacrifice with over 800,000 mana would have been himself.

“When I think about it… this magic is structured in such a way that it inevitably requires the life of a Dos-level ability user to be sacrificed.”

 “Mhm, that’s right.”

“I’m sorry, but the demon beast…”

“It doesn’t have that much mana. But!”

I pointed to the dozens of pieces of paper scattered on the lab floor and smirked.

 “What is~that?”

 “What is it?”

“A gift from our genius Lord of the Wizard Tower Hans~!”

 * * *

The Lord of the Wizard Tower, Hans Weaver.

He was a talent discovered by Oscar Manuel in his second life.

Oscar, who had already witnessed the process of revolution in the first life, wanted to minimize the sacrifices as much as possible.

“Mr. James, I’m sorry. Am I too late?”

A high-end restaurant in the capital.

When he requested an interview, Hans, who had made a reservation at a fancy restaurant, hurriedly sat down in front of Oscar.

 “No, I just got here.”

“That’s a relief. I’ve been so busy approving magical formula manuals.”

Oscar looked happily at his disciple Hans, who had grown up well.

Three years ago, on the day of the revolution.

The mercenaries of the 6th class won against the 3rd class ability users.

The miraculous battle was made possible thanks to Hans’ invention of the ‘Mana Amplification Magic,’ which could not be created by high-ranking superhumans who lacked the concept of ‘having no’ or ‘having little’ mana.

In other words, ‘Mana Amplification’ was a concept that even a genius like Oscar Manuel could not conceive of.

“Thanks to you, Mr. James, we’ve been able to publish high-quality magic formula manuals. I’m truly grateful. By any chance, is today’s meeting request also about the manuals?”

 “No, that’s not it.”

 Oscar thought of Lilith.

‘I need to know what the hell you’re planning.’

Lilith, who had a rather determined expression on her face as she said that she would lift her master’s curse, spent the next three days locked in her lab.

When asked what she was up to, she wouldn’t answer, and whenever they ran into each other in the dining hall, the dark circles under her eyes showed she’d been up all night.

‘It wasn’t something I was supposed to agree to so easily.’

Lilith suddenly went to investigate Oscar’s childhood.

At first, he rejected it with suspicion, wondering what she was plotting.

“That’s too much… I just want to know my beloved master a little deeper… Even if we have to part ways someday, I want to remember everything about you!”

Oscar, whose heart softened at the sight of the seventeen-year-old child crying like that, eventually filled four sheets of paper with the requested details.

It was a cunning move that perfectly understood Oscar, who could never resist when she pouted or acted cute, eventually giving in every time!

 “Haa.”

And this stupid man who gave in even though he knew that!

‘Am I actually the dumb one?’

Hans tilted his head as he watched Oscar sighing from the endless stream of thoughts.

 “Mr. James?”

“Ah, sorry. Actually, I wanted to ask you something about my direct superior, Princess Rubinstein.”

“Oh, sure. I was actually wondering how well you’re adjusting to the Wizard Tower. Is there some issue with Lilith?”

 “A little?”

 “How?”

“I still have a lot to learn, but lately, it seems like the princess has been focusing solely on other research. If it’s absolutely necessary, I can’t help it, but…”

“Research? Does Lilith do anything else besides making textbooks these days?”

“Oh, yes. That seems to be the case. I heard, what was it…?”

Oscar added, glancing at Hans’s expression.

“…I heard something about a magic formula that the Lord of the Wizard Tower made for the Princess? Something like that.”

Four months ago, when he returned to the Wizard Tower, Lilith said,

“Hans stayed up without sleep and made forty-two magic formulas for the Master.”

Later, when he asked what it was, Lilith avoided answering.

In that case, it must have been the magic formula she lured Hans into making, claiming it would break the restriction.

“Did I make it? What was it?…Ah! I remember now! Is it about that low-efficiency magic?”

“What kind of magic is it?”

“It’s nothing special. It’s based on the principle of the ‘Mana Amplification Magic’ featured in this issue’s textbook. Unlike the previous version, it maximizes the amplification by exceeding the limit.”

“If it’s maximization… To what extent?”

“If only the core is attached, it can be amplified to over 800,000?”

 “Yes?”

 Oscar’s eyes widened.

 “Is that possible?”

“It is possible, but it’s useless. By maximizing the amplification, the base mana consumption becomes much higher. Because the original amplification magic was designed so that low-tier mages with less mana could cast it themselves?”

 “…That’s right.”

“But what Lilith asked me to create doesn’t work like that. If she insists on using it, it could be utilized by a high-tier mage, like someone of the Dos level, casting it on a lower-tier mage…”

Hans frowned as he recalled the magic formula he had made for Lilith.

“Even so, it’s only temporary, and even among Dos, only a select few can use it. I don’t understand why she’s asking for such an inefficient spell in the first place.”

Unlike Hans, who couldn’t figure out Lilith’s intentions at all, Oscar’s eyes trembled slightly as he noticed something.

“I made it because she kept pestering me, but she didn’t say what she intended to use it for, so I’m not sure either…”

 Bam!

Hans’s eyes widened in surprise as Oscar suddenly got up from his seat.

 “M, Mr. James?”
