Chapter 76
“Unnie, wake up.”
“Uuuunnggh… How long have I been asleep?”
“About five minutes?”
Min-young whispered near my ear, tickling me awake. Shuddering slightly, I stretched as I sat up. It was a relief that no odd cracking sounds came from my body whenever I stretched. After brushing aside some strands of hair that had found their way into my mouth, I asked her a question.
“Then how much longer do we have?”
“Just one or two more stops until we reach Busan Station. By the way, the sandwich was delicious. Thanks!”
Chocoa pulled out her white earbuds and spoke to me.
“Hehe… Would you like some more? If you want, I can pack them for you anytime!”
“Oh… Then maybe I’ll drop by your place once in a while… Is that okay?”
“Of course! Feel free to visit anytime!”
As I imagined what dishes I could prepare to please Chocoa if she ever visited our home, much like a housewife planning dinner while waiting for her husband to return from work, the conductor announced that we had arrived in Busan.
“Sniff sniff… The smell of salt.”
I usually cook with minimal salt, but years of cooking have made me familiar with this nostalgic yet fresh scent. Taking a deep breath of the slightly salty air made me feel something oddly magical.
“Unnie, will we see the ocean today?”
My sister tugged on the sleeve of my short-sleeved shirt as she asked.
“Don’t worry.”
She didn’t need to worry. I had a plan so flawless that I considered it perfect. Since check-in was at 3 PM and it was just shy of 5 PM now, we’d first head to the lodging to unpack…
“Should we eat first? I’m hungry.”
“Yes!”
Truthfully, people say trips are more fun when there’s no plan.
“Unnies! Wait a moment!”
As we stepped out of Busan Station, the salty scent seemed to grow stronger. I assumed it was more psychological than actual salinity in the air, but it felt real nonetheless.
Right after exiting the station, Min-young had Chocoa and me stand near the station entrance before suddenly stopping a passerby to say something. After a brief conversation, she returned to us.
“I asked someone to take our photo. Thank you!”
The passerby, who seemed slightly flushed from the heat or embarrassment, held up a phone that appeared to be my sister’s, judging by its plain black case.
“Cheese.”
She naturally linked her arm with mine, assuming a pose, and Chocoa, seemingly liking symmetry, gently took my other arm.
“…!!”
Caught off guard by this sudden invasion, all I could do was wear a surprised and flustered expression. At that moment, the phone camera flashed, accompanied by the sound of a shutter.
Click—
“Hehehe…”
While waiting for our food at the restaurant, I noticed Min-young oddly giggling while looking at her phone. Curious, I tried to peek, but she quickly hid it, leaving me none the wiser.
Chocoa, noticing my dejection, leaned in slightly to chat with me, likely trying to keep me company.
“That event is supposed to run from 10 AM to 10 PM, but the peak hours are usually between 12 and 3 PM when most of the important matches and activities take place. Oh, and this place seems to be a popular spot. Look, the menu has assorted sashimi…”
Chocoa leaned over further to pick up the menu for her explanation.
While I welcomed her closeness, it posed a bit of a problem at the moment.
“Ughhh…”
“Is something wrong?”
Nothing was wrong. It was just that the soft sensation I had felt earlier when our arms had interlocked near the station lingered vividly in my mind, refusing to leave.
“N-no, it’s nothing…”
I bowed my head low, trying my best to shake the thought from my mind, while simply listening to Chocoa’s voice.
“…For personal collection…”
I faintly heard the sound of a shutter from beside me.
Despite my inner turmoil, it seemed the place really was a great restaurant, just as Chocoa had said. Chocoa ate her fill of sashimi, while Min-young indulged in extra shrimp tempura on top of more sashimi, only stopping when she noticed others watching. I, on the other hand, had tonkatsu.
“…Do you like tonkatsu?”
“Um… I don’t hate it.”
“I love it!”
“Wow.”
With our bellies full, my sister poked at my now satisfied stomach as we headed to our lodging. It was a fairly large hotel—not the kind you see in grand TV commercials, but a cozy and reasonably priced place that seemed perfect for us.
“Yay~”
Min-young immediately flung herself onto the big bed. While I was a bit concerned, the bed must’ve been worth its price; she bounced slightly into the air before settling back down. Pressing it with my hand, I confirmed it was plush enough to ensure a good night’s sleep.
“But… is there only one room?”
Chocoa asked while setting down her bags.
“Uh… Min-young?”
I had left all monetary arrangements, including lodging and train tickets, to her. She was smarter and more efficient than I was in such matters. Though I had more experience with money, I trusted her enthusiasm and willingness to handle things.
“What?”
“Did you only book one room…?”
One hotel room, two beds, and three women.
“Then, unnie can just sleep with me.”
She tilted her head slightly as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“………”
“I’m sorry, I’m an only child.”
I turned to hear Chocoa’s opinion, but her response was inevitable.
“It’s warmer than I thought…”
As May approached, the sun was still up at 5 PM. I had anticipated chilly weather and wore a thick cardigan, but it felt warmer than expected. I took off the cardigan, stuffed it into my bag, and pulled out a hat to wear. By coincidence, it seemed to match the vibrant hat Min-young was wearing, except for the color, making us look like we were wearing couple hats.
“Wait… Did I pack this?”
“…Unnie! Look over there!”
“Whoa…”
My small question disappeared as my gaze was drawn to the massive event venue that appeared before us. The sun was still shining brightly, and the crowd was immense. People with large cameras slung around their necks wandered, searching for things to photograph, while others dressed in various cosplay outfits struck poses here and there.
“Wow…”
Honestly, the thing I was most excited about for this event was the cosplay.
Cosplay—defined as the act of dressing up as characters from comics, animations, or games and enjoying the activity as both play and art.
**Lesik.**
**Legendary Six.**
The game I’m most confident in and love the most. Recently, even Chocoa had been getting into Lesik, which likely contributed to our increased playtime. I was nearly at the rank-up match to Diamond.
“Unnie, you’re doing that tomorrow, right?”
Min-young glanced at a group of people pretending to aim guns as she asked.
“Yeah.”
This was during the time I was fighting with viewers who were spamming video donations while researching the event.
—
“Ughhh… Stopppp… This is so embarrassing…”
The video donations came not by the minute, but nearly every second. The donation amount determined the video length, and since most of them were long, it was great financially but terrible for my mental health.
I temporarily disabled the video donations for my sanity, but the chat immediately went wild.
– **”AAAAAHHH OPEN THE DOOR!!!!!”**
– **”BAM BAM BAM KAPOW KAPOW KAPOW!!!!”**
– **”There are still 6 more in the queue!!!!!”**
– **”tqqq”**
“Calm down… Oh, there are really a lot of things happening on Sunday…”
As it turned out, Sunday was packed with various tournaments and events at different times. Reflex challenges, eating contests, parkour competitions, cosplay contests, and more.
“…Why is there an eating contest though?”
I found it odd, but it wasn’t my concern, so I ignored it and focused on one particular event.
“Cosplay…”
– **”? Are you going to do it?”**
– **”If you just show up, you’d probably win.”**
– **”lol”**
“Should I give it a try?”
How many chances would I get to become a character from my favorite game? Since Lesik is based on tactical training for special forces, the costumes weren’t overly revealing or strange. The most outlandish thing was probably the alien-face helmet released for Halloween.
As I browsed online for Lesik costumes, my phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Hello, this is Yoon Si-ha.”
“Hmm? What’s up? Do you need a substitute for something?”
“Uh… not that. I just thought… if you needed a costume, I might be able to help. I work in a place somewhat related to models and costumes.”
—
“Tomorrow, you’re meeting the person doing that cosplay thing?”
“That’s the plan. I think they’ll contact us tomorrow.”
“Then what are we doing today?”
Chocoa lightly tapped my shoulder with her finger as she asked.
“Today… we’ll just wander around, do whatever looks fun, and eat good food. Since we came on the second day of the event, we should enjoy today to the fullest so we can have even more fun tomorrow. Choco…”
“No.”
“Uh… what…?”
Chocoa looked at me with an expectant gaze.
“The… camera…”
Min-young had been carrying a camera since we left the hotel.
“Oh…”
Disappointment was written all over Ga-young unnie’s face.
“…Ga-young unnie…”
I stood on tiptoe because of our height difference and whispered softly in her ear.
