Chapter 2: The Group Chat
Kikidori wasn't a fan of mornings. He'd woken up in the U.A. dorms to the usual silence of his room, the only sounds coming from the faint chatter of students in the halls. The sunlight streamed through his window, illuminating the few things he owned—his clothes, a few books, and his phone lying face down on the nightstand.
He reached for it, dreading whatever awaited him. His screen lit up, and the first thing he noticed was the number of notifications: **90+ unread messages.**
Kikidori sighed. *What could possibly warrant this much noise?*
Opening his phone, he saw the messages were all from the **Class 1-A Group Chat.** He'd been added to it yesterday, apparently by Kaminari, who had taken it upon himself to include Kikidori in *everything*. He had ignored it at first, but now it seemed unavoidable.
The messages were chaotic, as expected.
---
**Denki Kaminari:** "Yo, new guy! Welcome to the chat! You better not ghost us like Shoji does sometimes."
**Mina Ashido:** "Wait, wait—does he even *use* his phone? What if he's one of those super mysterious types who doesn't reply?"
**Hanta Sero:** "Guys, leave him alone. He just joined."
**Katsuki Bakugo:** "DON'T SPAM THE CHAT, IDIOTS!"
**Ochaco Uraraka:** "Be nice, Bakugo! He's probably just quiet!"
**Izuku Midoriya:** "Welcome to the group chat, Kikidori! If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask!"
**Momo Yaoyorozu:** "Yes, feel free to ask us anything! We're all here to help!"
**Minoru Mineta:** "Does he know about my *GENIUS* sense of humor yet?"
**Kyoka Jiro:** "Pretty sure that's what scares people away, Mineta."
**Tsuyu Asui:** "Ribbit. Let him breathe, guys. It's only been a day."
**Eijiro Kirishima:** "Yeah, chill out! He seems super manly, though! Can't wait to see what he's like in training!"
**Mina Ashido:** "Oooh, I bet his quirk is cool! I mean, he's got that whole mysterious vibe!"
Kikidori rolled his eyes. *They're obsessed with me for no reason. It's just like middle school all over again.* He scrolled through the rest of the messages, skimming over Kaminari's terrible memes, Todoroki's surprisingly dry humor, and Yaoyorozu trying to keep things organized.
And then a new message popped up.
---
**Mina Ashido:** "Hey, since it's Friday, who's down to come to my dorm tonight? We can do some sleepover-type games! ;)"
---
The group chat exploded in excitement almost immediately.
---
**Denki Kaminari:** "YES! Count me in!"
**Hanta Sero:** "You just want an excuse to stay up late, Denki."
**Kyoka Jiro:** "I'm in. But if it's dumb games, I'm leaving early."
**Eijiro Kirishima:** "Sounds awesome! I'll bring snacks!"
**Ochaco Uraraka:** "I can bring drinks! Non-alcoholic, obviously!"
**Izuku Midoriya:** "This sounds fun! I'll come too."
**Momo Yaoyorozu:** "I'd be happy to contribute! I can bring extra pillows and blankets if we need them."
**Minoru Mineta:** "Will there be girls there?"
**Katsuki Bakugo:** "Mineta, shut up before I kill you."
**Mina Ashido:** "EVERYONE'S INVITED! Even you, Kikidori!"
**Denki Kaminari:** "Oooooh, will the mysterious new guy show up? This is big."
**Katsuki Bakugo:** "Why would he want to hang out with YOU losers?"
---
Kikidori stared at the screen, debating whether he should just mute the chat and ignore them all. He didn't particularly care for socializing, and he definitely didn't want to spend the evening surrounded by people who wouldn't stop pestering him with questions.
Still, a small part of him wondered if maybe—just maybe—this was an opportunity to experience something different. He didn't have friends back in middle school or elementary school. Maybe this was his chance to change that.
The notifications continued to flood in.
---
**Kyoka Jiro:** "Kikidori hasn't said anything. What if he's not into this kind of thing?"
**Eijiro Kirishima:** "Maybe he's just shy! Don't worry, bro, you'll feel right at home with us!"
**Mina Ashido:** "I'll take silence as a 'yes.' You're coming, Kikidori! No excuses!"
---
Kikidori sighed and tossed his phone onto the bed. This was already exhausting, and the day had barely started.
He wasn't sure if he'd actually go to Mina's dorm that night. Part of him wanted to avoid the whole thing entirely, but another part of him—the part that had been lonely for so long—was curious.
For now, though, he decided to leave the group chat on read.
