Chapter 262: Chapter 261: A Battle of Wits and Instinct
"This kid has an incredible fighting instinct..."
Aizawa had already recognized Bakugo's talent during the Sports Festival, but experiencing it firsthand was something else entirely.
He realized that if he didn't take this seriously, it might take longer than expected to subdue him.
"What's wrong, Teach? That all you got?" Bakugo taunted, standing about ten meters away, slightly out of breath but grinning arrogantly.
At the same time, he was thinking, maybe he could actually take Aizawa down on his own.
But just as that thought crossed his mind, Aizawa's pupils glowed red, and his capture scarf whipped to life.
The very next second, Aizawa charged forward, his speed nearly three times what it had been before. His bandages lashed out, blocking Bakugo's upper, left, and right escape routes.
"What?!"
A sudden chill ran down Bakugo's spine. The sheer force of Aizawa's approach made every hair on his body stand on end. His pupils shrank, he hadn't expected such a dramatic speed boost.
BOOM!
Despite his incredible reflexes, Bakugo couldn't fully dodge. Aizawa's fist slammed into his stomach, knocking the wind out of him. His body doubled over as bile rose up his throat.
"Never underestimate a pro hero, kid."
Aizawa's voice was calm as he looked down at Bakugo, now tightly bound by his capture scarf.
"You… aren't you supposed to be carrying extra weight?! How the hell are you still this fast?!" Bakugo gasped, his face twisted in frustration.
"My speed is reduced by about thirty percent because of the weights," Aizawa admitted. "But a short burst of full power still lets me move at normal levels."
Though this tactic drains my stamina quickly… he added silently.
Just then, he noticed something, Bakugo's lips had curled into a smirk.
Aizawa's instincts screamed at him. He immediately sensed a rush of air behind him.
"Kacchan! Let him go!!"
Midoriya, surrounded by crackling green lightning, had launched himself forward, aiming a powerful punch at Aizawa's back. His face was filled with determination and urgency.
"Interesting..."
Aizawa flipped off the ground with surprising agility, his capture scarf latching onto a telephone pole. With a swift motion, he swung himself upward.
"Did Midoriya come back on his own? Or was this part of their plan?" Aizawa wondered as he landed lightly on the power lines, keeping his eyes on Midoriya's electrified form.
BOOM!
The moment Aizawa's eyes left Bakugo, the effects of Erasure wore off.
A massive explosion erupted beneath him as Bakugo propelled himself into the sky.
"Where the hell do you think you're going, Teach?!"
Flames flickered in his palms as he soared toward Aizawa, an unmistakable look of murderous glee on his face.
"DIE!!!"
Bakugo pulled both hands in front of him, preparing for a massive explosion, only to feel… nothing.
His Quirk had vanished again.
"Tch! Damn it, he erased me again!" Bakugo scowled as he lost momentum and began to plummet.
Meanwhile, Midoriya, who had regained his Quirk as soon as Aizawa shifted focus, sprinted up the telephone pole at high speed. The moment he reached the top, he kicked off, leaping straight at Aizawa from behind.
"I see now."
Aizawa, realizing that staying on the wire limited his mobility, dropped down to the ground to avoid Midoriya's attack.
At the same time, everything clicked into place.
"They've figured it out, if they keep alternating attacks, I can only erase one of their Quirks at a time."
---
In the monitoring room…
Uraraka and Kyoka watched, their eyes wide in shock. The battle unfolding on the screen was intense, billowing smoke, flashes of fire, rapid movements.
"This is insane… they're actually fighting toe-to-toe with Aizawa-sensei!" Uraraka whispered, clenching her fists nervously.
"Their strategy is solid. Aizawa-sensei is probably looking for a way to break out of their pincer attack right now," Recovery Girl observed with a smile.
"If he manages to see both Midoriya and Bakugo at the same time, even for a second, the match could be over," she added.
"So, as long as they keep up this pace, they'll win, right? Aizawa-sensei can't keep this up forever," Kyoka reasoned.
"Is it really that simple?" Recovery Girl chuckled, shaking her head.
---
Back on the battlefield…
"Watch out!"
Aizawa suddenly shouted, his voice sharper than usual.
Before Midoriya or Bakugo could react, he pulled out several small black objects from his utility pouch.
"What the hell is that?"
"Huh?!"
Aizawa spun rapidly on the spot.
SWISH! SWISH!
A shower of tiny black objects scattered through the air like shuriken.
Midoriya's instincts screamed at him, Danger!
But as the projectiles rained down, he noticed something strange.
Most of them were aimed at him.
Bakugo only had a handful flying his way.
Midoriya immediately leapt backward, putting distance between himself and Aizawa. Bakugo, too, instinctively dodged.
But then, Midoriya landed and felt something sharp under his foot.
He looked down.
"Caltrops?"
The sunlight reflected off the scattered black spikes littering the ground in front of him. These were no toys, one wrong step, and his foot would be punctured.
Before he could react, Aizawa had already lunged at Bakugo with terrifying speed.
"Ka-chan! Watch out!!" Midoriya shouted, but as he tried to rush forward—
He couldn't.
The iron caltrops completely blocked his path. Unlike Bakugo, he couldn't fly.
Meanwhile, Aizawa had already reached Bakugo. His movements were sharper, more aggressive than before.
WHIP!
Bakugo's limbs were wrapped in Aizawa's capture scarf before he could react.
This time, Aizawa didn't make the same mistake, he immediately maneuvered behind Bakugo, ensuring both he and Midoriya were now within his line of sight.
Midoriya froze.
For the first time, he realized—Aizawa had them.
The pro hero exhaled slightly, then spoke in a calm, measured voice.
"So now… what's your next move? Do you have a backup plan?"
Bakugo gritted his teeth, but then—he smirked.
Midoriya blinked in confusion as Bakugo shot him an amused, almost mocking look.
"Why the hell are you just standing there, Deku?! RUN!!"
"Huh? Ah—!"
Midoriya snapped back to reality. He turned and bolted toward the finish line.
His Quirk had been erased, so his speed wasn't as fast as usual but he was running.
Aizawa narrowed his eyes.
"So this is their second strategy…"
Bakugo, despite being restrained, chuckled smugly.
"So what's it gonna be, Teach?" he taunted. "You gonna stay here and keep an eye on me, or you gonna go after Deku?"
Aizawa's expression didn't change, but something in his gaze sharpened.
"He can still stay this composed in this situation? This kid…"
