Chapter 3: Inheriting the Farm 3
Wan Qian couldn't help but straighten her posture, reading attentively.
[1. The farm owner is fully responsible for the operation and management of the farm and should reasonably plan and organize the farm's production activities.]
[2. The farm owner should be just and fair in awarding rewards and punishments and must not secretly punish or pardon employees in violation of the "Farm Employee Code of Conduct."]
[3. The farm owner may amend the "Farm Employee Code of Conduct" in the "Farm Employee Code of Conduct (Volume 2)" and establish more reasonable work standards.]
[4. The butler is trustworthy. In case of difficulties, you may seek help from the butler.]
[5. If help is needed, stand in place and call for the butler, then wait quietly for a moment. If you cannot remember the butler's name, you may call incorrectly, but never address him directly as "butler."]
[6. There are no dogs on the farm. If you hear a dog barking, do not attempt to find or respond to it. If you see dog fur, paw prints, or dog waste, quickly contact the village chief of Mushroom Village, as it must have run out of the village. Village chief hotline: 777666.]
[7. You are the highest authority on this farm, and all your actions are justified. You may act freely.]
She read through the notes a few times. Wan Qian, her hands trembling, tightly gripped the thin paper. Her face revealed an expression of deep emotion.
Ah, great-uncle really worked hard. Even before his death, he still thought about his useless granddaughter. Afraid that Wan Qian might not manage the farm well, he had left her this small note.
But it was clear that, when writing this note, great-uncle must have already been very ill. His thoughts were chaotic, and his mind unclear. The contents were somewhat contradictory.
For instance, Item 7, "All your actions are justified, and you may act freely," directly conflicted with Item 2, "You must not secretly punish or pardon employees in violation of the 'Farm Employee Code of Conduct.'"
There's also Item 5, which says to "stand in place and call for the butler", but then it also says that one must "never address him directly as "butler.""
But don't these small mistakes better reflect the deep love her great-uncle had for her? Even in his final moments, he still remembered her!
Wan Qian, moved, carefully folded the paper and tucked it into her pocket. Although great-uncle had passed away, she would cherish this love he had left her.
At the same time, she made a firm resolution to run the farm well, so that great-uncle's spirit could rest in peace.
"How many employees do we currently have at the farm? What do we mainly produce here?"
Seeing the butler returning from the kitchen with tea, Wan Qian eagerly asked about the farm's basic operations.
The butler was somewhat surprised by Wan Qian's enthusiasm.
However, he still maintained a polite smile and gracefully walked over to place the tea in front of her.
"The farm has been inactive for a long time before your arrival. Most of the employees had already been "dealt with." Now, there are only a feed worker and a cleaner left."
"What? Just two?"
It seems that everything has to start from scratch. Wan Qian felt a bit helpless and thought for a moment before saying, "Well, call them over so I can meet them."
"Yes, please wait a moment."
"Wait—" Just as the butler was about to call them, Wan Qian quickly stopped him.
Forget it, I'll go meet them myself. The hour hand pointed precisely at the number 3, while the minute and second hands aligned with the number 12.
At the same time, the farm's broadcast system chimed in: "Beep—The current time is 3:00 PM. Weather: Sunny, with a light breeze."
"Forget it, I'll go meet them myself. And I might as well take a look around the farm," Wan Qian said after the broadcast ended.
Hmph, it's work hours right now. The farm workers only work eight hours a day. If she had the butler notify those two to come over, the round trip would likely take an hour. That means a whole hour with no one working! That would be a loss for her.
Wan Qian couldn't help but think about the note that mentioned the farm owner could make changes to the "Farm Employee Code of Conduct (Volume 2)."
She didn't know where the Volume 2 was, but if she found it, she would change the original 8-hour workday to a 12-hour workday, and are only allowed one day off per week! The farm is in its early stages, every second counts!
The butler, unaware of Wan Qian's thoughts, led her to the first breeding farm.
The breeding farm was surrounded by a metal fence. A wooden sign hung on the fence, reading "Rice Production Base." Through the fence, Wan Qian could see a feed worker in a blue uniform working there.
The butler opened the gate and let Wan Qian inside.
The feed worker noticed their arrival, immediately put down the bucket he was holding, stood up straight, and bowed deeply to Wan Qian. "Good day, farm owner!"
The employee's respectful attitude made Wan Qian feel very pleased.
It's good to be the boss. No one irritates you, and you get treated with such respect by the employees. Wan Qian put on a kindly smile, making her seem especially approachable.
She walked up to the feed worker and asked, "What are you doing?"
While asking, she looked down at the bucket the feed worker had just been holding. It was filled with a thick, dark green liquid that was still gently swaying, as if it were alive.
"Report, farm owner. I'm feeding the livestock," As he spoke, he lifted a bucket in one hand and a ladle in the other, walking toward the pond. "This is a carefully formulated feed. With it, we will surely produce high-quality rice."
Not understanding the connection, Wan Qian observed her surroundings.
Strangely enough, although the sign on the fence said "Rice Production Base," the area inside the fence, except for the spot where she, the butler, and the feed worker stood, was all water.
A large area of reeds grew around the pond, making it difficult to see the full extent of the pond. It was unclear where the rice was actually grown.
