Chapter 6: Dark Farm 2
Wan Qian was putting up the "Employee Dormitory Management Rules" on the wall while marveling at the butler's efficiency. Not only had he quickly recruited a group of interns, but he had also swiftly drafted a set of dormitory management rules.
Without rules, nothing can be accomplished. After all, the dormitory is a public space, and having clear and detailed regulations will make it easier to manage the employees.
Wan Qian happily stuck the A3-sized paper with the rules on the wall. But when she turned around, she saw a tall, stunning woman staring at her with wide eyes, looking surprised.
What's going on? Did she recognize me? Is she suspecting that I'm not actually an intern? Wan Qian immediately became alert.
She then heard the woman speak, her tone filled with admiration: "Big shot, you're amazing! You found the rules so quickly!"
"?!" Wan Qian looked puzzled.
Wen Xirou was excitedly watching Wan Qian. The girl in front of her had a composed demeanor, a calm gaze, and an expression that hinted at a touch of wisdom. She clearly looked like a big shot!
Not to mention, after finding the rules, she was the first to openly share them with everyone.
Since the arrival of Thriller World, the government had encouraged mutual help and cooperation to overcome the difficulties, but human nature was complex. Not everyone would share the rules after finding them. Some would even hide them, using others as test subjects to see whether the rules were true.
Wen Xirou had entered the thriller world a few times. She knew that relying solely on herself would make survival incredibly difficult. Therefore, finding reliable teammates to form alliances was essential.
The girl before her seemed meticulous—she had found the rules shortly after entering the dormitory; kind and enthusiastic—after finding the rules, she didn't keep them to herself but shared them with everyone. It was clear that she was likely someone trustworthy.
Wen Xirou immediately extended an olive branch and reached out her hand: "Hi, my name is Wen Xirou. May I be friends?"
Wan Qian became even more cautious—such enthusiasm, could she have really recognized her true identity? Was she trying to take advantage of a shortcut?
Wan Qian considered herself a fair and strict farm owner. She would not tolerate anyone trying to take shortcuts! Even if someone was as beautiful as a movie star, they wouldn't get any special treatment!
But since Wen Xirou hadn't openly mentioned anything, Wan Qian didn't want to brought it up herself. Besides, if Wen Xirou hadn't meant anything by it, and she brought it up first, wouldn't that just expose her true identity?
Wan Qian's sharp mind immediately went into overdrive. She casually extended her hand and gently shook Wen Xirou's hand.
"Hello, I'm Wan Qian."
Wen Xirou, having been through many years of social experience, immediately noticed Wan Qian's wariness. However, she didn't find it strange. In this environment, being cautious about everything around you was the normal thing to do.
Since Wan Qian was willing to accept the olive branch she had offered, it meant that Wan Qian was open to cooperation.
Wen Xirou felt somewhat reassured and lifted her gaze to look at the "Employee Dormitory Management Rules" that Wan Qian had posted on the wall.
[1. The dormitory is a place for employees to rest and relax. Outside of working hours, employees may rest here.]
[2. Except for empty rooms, each dormitory can accommodate no more than three people, and no less than two people.]
[3. Due to the damp weather, the wardrobe in the dormitory has developed mold and is unusable. Please understand. However, the small storage lockers are safe to use. If you hear strange sounds coming from the wardrobe, please ignore them and do not open it.]
[4. The bed sheets are white, and the blankets are blue. Please make sure that the color of the bed sheets and blankets is correct when you go to bed.]
[5. The public bathroom is available for use from 19:00 to 24:00. Entry is prohibited outside these hours. Employees are required to maintain personal hygiene and shower daily.]
[6. It is prohibited to overcrowd the bathroom. Only one person is allowed per cubicle, and please ensure to close the door politely. After using the bathroom, please clean up any remaining hair within fifteen minutes. Trust me, you don't want to see the consequences of upsetting the cleaner.]
Wen Xirou let out a small sigh of relief. It seemed that the dormitory was a relatively safe place. If there were no issues with the rules themselves, then the things that needed attention were the wardrobe, bed linens, and the bathroom.
As the others gathered around to look at the rules, they started discussing them.
"The rules say each dormitory can have no more than three people, but no less than two," someone said.
"In other words, the dormitory can accommodate either three people or two people," another added.
After some discussion, everyone began to sort themselves into their assigned dorms.
"One, two, three… twenty-five." Wen Xirou had been counting the number of people while they were assigning dorms.
She did a double-take, her face showing confusion and fear. How could there be twenty-five people? When she got off the bus, she had counted and it was only twenty-four. But now, inside the dormitory, it seemed there was one extra person.
Was someone else added to the group? Or perhaps, was that extra person… not human?
The thought sent a chill down Wen Xirou's spine. She gripped Xiao Lin's hand more tightly, instinctively.
She quickly turned to Wan Qian and suggested, "Big shot, why don't you share a room with me and Xiao Lin?"
Wan Qian had actually preferred to be alone. Having no private space in a shared room was inconvenient.
However, at this point, she had already blended in with the group of interns. If she made any special requests, it would stand out too much. She nodded and agreed, "Fine."
The dorms were quickly assigned. There were 13 females, split into 3 three-person rooms and 2 two-person rooms; 12 males, assigned to 4 three-person rooms.
Upon entering the assigned room, Wan Qian found it to be quite tidy. There were three beds, each neatly made with white sheets and blue blankets. At the foot of each bed was a small storage locker.
A tall wardrobe stood in one corner of the room, and a mirror embedded in the wardrobe silently watched over the beds.
Wen Xirou felt a sense of unease as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Xiao Lin, who had been following closely behind, tightened her grip on Wen Xirou's sleeve.
"Why do I feel like there are eyes in the mirror, watching me?" Xiao Lin whispered nervously.
