Chapter 28
“Rex, are you okay…?”
“Fck, do you think this looks fine? Take him to the Personnel Department instead of the infirmary.”
“But…”
“You fcking brat, do you think I’m easy?”
Eric cowered under Rex’s fierce glare.
Even though they were close enough to share cigarettes, Rex was one of the scary senior soldiers for Eric.
“Alright.”
In the end, Eric had no choice but to take Rex to the Personnel Department.
With both ankles broken, Rex could barely walk even with support.
People occasionally glanced at them, but all quickly averted their eyes from Rex’s menacing gaze.
Upon entering the Personnel Department,
“Rex? What’s going on? And… what happened to your leg?”
Captain Michel Robron, who was sorting documents at his desk, stood up.
“Fck, Captain. Enok broke my ankle.”
Rex began to recount what happened to him just now, conveniently omitting how he treated Lumina and Enok before.
“Contact the military police immediately and get that bastard!”
Captain Robron frowned as he listened silently to Rex’s story. Enok Revendale. Why would he suddenly attack Rex?
There were several reasons why this might have happened.
Sergeant Rex wasn’t exactly a model soldier.
He had been warned multiple times for making inappropriate advances towards female superiors.
He would disregard anyone he thought was beneath him, whether superior or subordinate.
His complaints were too numerous to count.
However, Captain Robron didn’t punish Rex despite scolding him.
The battalion commander, Rockhart Cromwell, believed internal issues should be resolved internally.
Moreover, Captain Robron himself benefited greatly from Rex.
For example, just sitting with Rex would cut the price in half at high-end bars in Chernov City.
He could buy goods at significantly lower prices than the usual market value.
Publicly, it was like this, but there were also secret nights out that couldn’t be publicly disclosed.
Rex was always treated like a VIP, allowing him to enjoy the company of expensive courtesans at a discounted rate.
Rex was an important connection for Captain Michel Robron.
“Corporal, did you mess with Sergeant Lumina again?”
“…Is that really important right now!? He dislocated my ankle with magic!”
Rex snapped back. Captain Robron’s expression darkened.
‘He’s crossing the line little by little.’
Although Captain Robron had shown some leniency towards Rex, the problem was that Enok Revendale was involved.
If he were a non-commissioned officer, he might have been able to handle it somehow.
But if the opponent is another officer, especially a new platoon leader being watched by the battalion commander, things change.
Even Captain Robron would prioritize a junior officer over a rowdy soldier.
Moreover, now might be the time to approach Enok Revendale favorably.
Northern Army Corps Direct Commanded Magic Battalion.
It wasn’t a bad posting, but compared to the Central Army Corps, which was considered an elite path in the army, it was far from ideal.
This battalion had received offers from talented individuals, including brigade commanders from the newly formed brigade.
While he had dismissed them as low-grade, Enok Revendale holding the golden rope was undeniable.
A few other officers were envious of the lucky captain who caught Enok.
But Captain Michel Robron didn’t see it that way.
He had a good rapport with Lieutenant Colonel Rockhart Cromwell.
He was a capable person who could clearly identify what was beneficial in a rapidly changing situation.
His instinct told him it would be more advantageous to bring Enok Revendale to his side rather than oppose him.
“Rex, go to the infirmary first and get treated. If your ankle is as badly injured as you say, you’ll need crutches right away.”
“Captain!”
“I’ll talk to Enok later. For now, let’s focus on getting you treated.”
Rex clenched his teeth in frustration at Captain Robron’s words.
There was no other option.
Here, the authority lies with the Captain, not Rex.
“Hey, help me support him to the infirmary again.”
Bam!
Rex hit Eric’s head as he stood beside him blankly.
“Oh, yes! Yes, I understand!”
All he wanted was to smoke a cigarette with his senior, and this sudden turn of events left him stunned.
Eric felt like crying.
“Enok, let’s talk.”
My prediction was correct.
If he planned such a blatant sexual assault, he wouldn’t stop at just breaking my ankle.
Though he acted pitiful in front of me, he must have been grinding his teeth in revenge behind my back.
People don’t change easily, especially those inherently evil.
“Honor to our country.”
I stood up and saluted. Since I was in civilian clothes, I didn’t need to change.
“It’s fine, no need to salute.”
“Yes, sir.”
“So, how are you feeling?”
“Of course. I feel much better after taking a nap.”
As I swung my arms, the Captain nodded and continued.
“That’s good to hear. The reason I came here specially as a platoon leader is…”
“I have a vague idea. It’s about Sergeant Rex, isn’t it?”
“Right.”
Captain Michel Robron readily agreed. His calm demeanor suggested he was here to reach an understanding.
“I heard you used magic to break Rex’s ankle. How did you use such powerful magic to completely crush his ankle bone?”
“Just ‘Air Bind.’ Maybe he lost balance and fell.”
“That doesn’t make sense… Anyway, that’s not the point.”
Captain Robron approached me and placed his hand on my shoulder.
“A magic officer used magic against an unarmed comrade and caused serious injury. Do you realize how serious this is?”
His low voice carried weight, almost sounding threatening.
‘It’s negotiation,’ I concluded. This wasn’t a bad approach. Had I blindly sided with Rex, I might have had to contact Sony Chepelin.
Now was the time to use the favor from a colonel.
“Of course, I understand.”
“Then…”
“But, sir, you must also know how serious Sergeant Rex’s crimes are.”
Captain Robron’s mouth closed shut at my sharp remark.
“Sergeant Rex attempted to rape Sergeant Lumina.”
“What? Rape?”
“He confessed it casually to me. Moreover, he planned to gang-rape if everything went well.”
Rape and gang-rape.
Two words that shouldn’t come easily from someone’s mouth, causing Captain Robron visible distress.
Judging by his reaction, he didn’t expect such extreme actions to be discovered.
After all, a self-important person like Rex wouldn’t have honestly admitted it to the Captain.
“Immediately, violation of military discipline and insubordination. There are countless laws he violated, am I wrong?”
“Those points are true, but injuring a soldier severely is a major offense…”
“I will accept punishment according to military law. However, please also punish Sergeant Rex accordingly.”
At my firm stance, Captain Robron’s eyes wavered.
Frankly, I had nothing to lose.
Regardless of my achievements, I needed to stay in this unit for another year.
Unless someone like Sony Chepelin came to take me away without following procedures.
Even Captain Robron knew there was no lower ground for me within this battalion.
“Enok, I understand your feelings, but the battalion commander won’t approve of this.”
Finally, the battalion commander card was played.
Captain Robron had already shown all his cards.
He hadn’t pressured or threatened me from the start, so attacking aggressively now would be pointless.
I took a deep breath and looked directly into the Captain’s eyes.
“Captain, are you really part of Rex’s gang?”
“What?! Are you saying the Captain is his strong supporter?”
Captain Robron jumped at my bombshell statement.
“Sergeant Rex said that your word alone could kill someone.”
“Wh… Wha… What?!”
Captain Robron’s face turned pale, then blue, and finally a furious red.
“This f*cking punk… thinks he can get away with it!”
“Captain.”
I grabbed the Captain, who was about to storm off.
“Rex has caused many problems as a soldier. I believe it’s best to resolve this now.”
“I agree. But…”
“I have a plan. Would you like to hear it?”
