Chapter 300- Back In The Tower (Part 24)
'I'm really in a very bad situation… I don't know how long I can fight for.' Arthur thought to himself, hiding his uncertainty behind the maniacal smile. Even with all that confidence, he was still in huge trouble.
There were far too many Yetis for him to kill them all and not end up dying before that happened. He was getting stronger with each kill, but it was far from enough. There was simply a limit to how much Arthur could pull off. Even miracles had their limits, after all.
"ROAR!!!"
As if they smelled that hint of fear in him, the monsters resumed their assault, leaping on him from every place. Arthur immediately channeled his mana and moved, flashing through the first set of claws threatening to take him down. However, immediately, he found several others waiting for him where he ended up.
So, he used his sword, forming a barrier of ice while manifesting a dozen arrows to use and pull the monsters' aggro. At the same time, on his left hand, he was using Bloody Claws and Frost Flame interchangeably. He would throw the burning icey fire into the Yetis, freezing their limbs and then clawing them with his hand.
His mind was split into two major tasks, dodging and attacking, but also those major tasks were split into several smaller tasks like using his left arm and right arm for different reasons. The claws and the flames were already quite tricky to manipulate and use at the perfect moment.
Yet, Arthur was also using his sword in his right hand to attack and even defend. Not to mention his continuous ability to take micro-decisions to kill and survive, moving left and right and reading his surroundings precisely. A normal human brain would've been fried from the sheer overload.
But, Arthur found himself completely capable of pulling it off and for long periods of time too. If his strength wasn't already a good enough indication of his evolution, then his brain was perhaps the biggest sign of that.
He had exceeded anything a human would be able to achieve and soared into a different realm that couldn't be considered human. Arthur was aware of that and he made perfect use of it.
*BANG*
Stabbing a Yeti in the back of the shoulder, Arthur jumped on top of its head and leaped in the air, dodging two Yetis. Then, he landed on top of Another Yeti, stabbing it in the eye, and piercing its brain.
The battle only got more and more bloody by the second to the point where Arthur's noise could only smell blood and guts. His entire body was covered in the blood of his enemies mixed with his blood. Freh's injuries opened in his arms and abdomen.
The cold weather numbed him and his mind was solely focused on the battle. He swung his arms and moved his body with all his power, to the point where all the pain became simply a constant feeling he had to deal with.
The stench of death and the loud roars and cries saturated his senses and made him completely forget about the outside world. His eyes only saw red.
'I need to kill more… More!!' His eyes slowly lost all light. 'I must kill!!'
Arthur didn't even realize that he was slowly going back to that 'state'. A state he had been in before once where he simply shed every sense of humanity he had within him and became a killing machine with no feelings. He didn't care much about it.
But, for the other mercenaries and even for the Yetis themselves, they felt the sudden shift. They weren't fighting an injured and tired human, they were fighting a true monster. His movement, and his sword that harvested their lives one by one.
Their instincts started alerting them to the deadly demon wreaking havoc in their lines. However, at the same time, the damage he was sustaining with his all-out assault was heavy. Arthur's body turned into a map of bruises, lacerations, and scratches. His health bar was nearing 30% and going down even faster.
"Arthur…" Deka looked at the scene with a horrified look on her face. The way Arthur was fighting sent a chill down her spine and when she caught a glimpse of his eyes, she felt as if she was staring deep into the eyes of a relentlessly demonic existence with the sole purpose of killing.
His blood-covered body didn't resemble a human anymore. It was as if Arthur transformed into a demon.
"Arthur…" She muttered as she pushed off the Yeti. "He's going to kill himself. Dammit!!"
Deka didn't know what was going on there but she realized quickly that the Yetis weren't falling back or decreasing in numbers. The boy was fighting an army basically alone.
But, the mercenaries couldn't help much either. They were struggling to survive.
"AGH!!" At that moment, Deka heard a loud screech coming from one of her companions. Looking up, she saw a squad member getting clawed in the chest as he was sent flying several meters back.
"NO!!!" Deka's eyes widened and she immediately tried to rush toward him. However, before she can do that, a Yeti has already reached him, and with a simple move… He stomped his head, making it explode into pieces. Explore more stories with My Virtual Library Empire
"NOOOOOO!!!!!" The woman felt her heart shatter in a moment as she screamed at the top of her lungs. Looking up with outrage, she maniacally charged at the Yeti with the full force of her shock.
"YOU BASTARDS!!!"
*CLING*
She formed a large lightning bolt and threw it at the Yeti before raining down attacks on it with all her power.
"Deka!!" Sergi saw that and realized the disaster that was about to happen. His friend had lost her mind.
"ROAR!!!"
"Get off me!" He roared as he fought back the enemy, trying to create some space so he could get closer to her.
"No… Gan…" The others stared at the squashed corpse of their friend in complete disbelief. But, there was no time to mourn or feel sadness as the monsters continued their relentless rampage. Even as tears welled up in their eyes, they couldn't stop fighting. The sadness and hatred in their eyes only grew.
At the same time, far away from them, Arthur was at the edge. His limit was nearing and he was about to fall to the ground. His vision was getting blurry and his body was losing all sense of reality. There wasn't an inch of it that wasn't injured.
All around him rested the corpses of a horrifying number of Yetis and more alive ones chasing him relentlessly.
He couldn't think, he couldn't see, and he couldn't even hear. There was nothing but eerie silence and the feeling of his body moving from one place to another.
'This is… a little troublesome…' He mused. 'I might need to stop for a second to catch my breath. They aren't so easy to kill.'
*ROAR*
A Yeti slammed Arthur's body from the side, sending him flying as he smashed into a tree. The hit was devastating as Arthur had lost his footing for a moment and it was a huge mistake.
The rest of his health dwindled rapidly, reaching the critical stage and beyond. He only had an ounce left.
The monsters took that opportunity and leaped at him again. However, at that very moment, Arthur's body suddenly reacted on its own.
