Chapter 1: Ma Jeong (1)
Eastern Continent
On the vast lands of the Eastern Continent, an old man with long white hair stood quietly. His black robe fluttered in the breeze as he leaned on a worn-out cane, eyes gazing blankly at the endless sky. His name was Ma Jeong.
But Ma Jeong was no ordinary man.
In his previous life, he had been just a regular person from Earth. After a tragic accident, he was reborn in this world—a world divided into five great continents: the Eastern, Western, Southern, Northern and Central Continents.
Here, strength determined everything—power, respect, and life itself. And Ma Jeong had once stood at the peak.
A genius cultivator of a renowned sect, he had reached the Fusion Realm at a young age, a feat that many could only dream of. The future had been bright, filled with endless possibilities.
But fate was cruel.
An accident shattered his dantian, robbing him of all his cultivation. In an instant, the proud genius became a powerless mortal. His sect, once full of admiration for him, cast him aside without mercy.
Banished and broken, Ma Jeong found refuge in a small village, living the life of an ordinary man. Years passed. His body weakened, and now, he stood at the edge of death.
Staring at the sky that once seemed within his grasp, Adrian let out a bitter laugh.
"Fuck, is there even a shred of justice in this world?" Ma Jeong muttered.
The heavens remained silent.
Frustration boiled inside Ma Jeong.
Pissed off at his own miserable situation, he opened his mouth and let out a stream of curses. His voice echoed through the quiet village, harsh and bitter. He kept cursing—at the heavens, at fate, at everything—until his throat ran dry.
But then—
[Ding!The system has awakened.]
A cold, mechanical voice rang in his ears.
Ma Jeong froze. His cane slipped slightly as he clutched his chest, almost having a heart attack right there. Wide-eyed, he stared at the glowing system screen that appeared before him.
For a moment, there was only silence.
Then—
"You've got to be kidding me! System, you fucking retard! You show up now? Now?! When I'm already at the end of my lifespan?" he roared, his voice cracking with rage.
[Ding! Very sorry! I was in a deep sleep before this; I just woke up too!]
Ma Jeong stared at the words, his face twitching.
"What the hell?! This is beyond unreasonable!" he shouted, almost smashing his cane into the ground.
His mind drifted back to the past.
When he first reincarnated in this world, he had waited. Days turned into weeks. He had expected a system, some cheat ability—anything—to appear. But nothing came.
Tired of waiting, he had relied on himself. He worked hard, cultivated day and night, and rose to become a genius of his sect. But all of that was snatched away when his dantian was damaged.
And now—now—the system finally showed up. When he was old, weak, and one foot in the grave.
Ding!
Congratulations, host! You have gained the ability 'Stronger Against Strong'!
Ma Jeong blinked. "What does that mean?" he asked, suspicion clear in his voice.
Ding!
'Stronger Against Strong' will always ensure that the host's cultivation is a tier above any opponent.
Ma Jeong's jaw dropped. "No way…"
He stared at the glowing screen, his heart racing. Slowly, he asked, "System… are you telling me that if I fight someone at the Early-stage Fusion Realm, I'll instantly gain the cultivation of a Mid-stage Fusion Realm? And if I go up against someone at the Peak-stage Fusion Realm… I'll leap straight to the Early-stage Transformation Realm?"
[Ding! Yes, host. Don't underestimate the system. The system is almighty!]
Ma Jeong's mouth twitched. He squinted at the screen, voice dripping with sarcasm. "Almighty, huh? If you're so powerful, why did you take so long to show up?"
...
The system fell silent.
Ma Jeong raised an eyebrow. "What happened? Cat got your tongue?"
[Ding! The system detects that the host's current health condition only has one hour of lifespan left!]
Ma Jeong's eyes widened in horror. "What the hell?! I'm about to die?!"
Panic surged through him. His body, though still able to move, had been kept together by the countless spiritual herbs he had consumed during his cultivation days. Without them, he would have crumbled long ago.
And now, when hope had finally arrived, death was knocking at his door.
Ma Jeong clenched his fists, glaring at the system screen.
"No… I'm not dying now. Not when I finally got this cheat…"
Ma Jeong took a deep breath, his eyes filled with determination.
He had made his decision.
Leaning heavily on his cane, he lifted one foot with great effort, then the other. His old body ached with every movement, but he pushed forward. He had only one goal now—to find someone strong and provoke them. It was his only chance to activate the system's ability and survive.
But the moment his eyes fell on the long, winding road down the mountain, regret hit him like a brick.
"Damn it…" he muttered under his breath.
Why did he have to pick a mountain so high and remote to spend his final years? He had wanted peace in his last days. Now, that choice was coming back to bite him.
Still, he had no other option.
Step by step, Ma Jeong dragged his withered body forward.
************
Ding ding ding…
The sharp sound of a bell echoed through the village.
It rang fast and loud—an alarm.
The villagers froze. Fear filled their hearts. The bell only rang for one reason: Enemies were coming.
Boom!
Suddenly, the sky darkened. Thick, heavy clouds gathered overhead. Massive flying beasts emerged from the shadows, their wings blotting out the sun.
A terrifying aura swept through the village like a raging storm.
People screamed and ran, confusion and panic spreading.
"What's going on?""Why is the alarm ringing?""Are we under attack?"
Before anyone could answer, a thunderous voice echoed across the village.
"Who dares to cause trouble in my village?"
The villagers looked up.
Floating high in the air was a middle-aged man with long black hair flowing down to his waist. His robes fluttered in the wind, and his sharp eyes glared at the sky.
It was the village leader—Ye Liang.
Beside him stood the village elders, their faces grim.
But before Ye Liang could say more, a deep, growling voice filled the air.
"You miserable weaklings… you dare raise your voice against me?"
The villagers looked up in horror.
A middle aged man with massive figure hovered in the sky. His yellow eyes glowed with cruelty, and sharp fangs glistened as it grinned.
The Wolf King.
Ye Liang's expression darkened.
"So, it's you… Wolf King," he muttered.
He knew this man. All too well.
Years ago, the Wolf King had come with his army, seeking to destroy the village. The battle had been fierce. Many lives were lost. With great sacrifice, they had barely driven him and his army away.
And now, he had returned.
"That humiliation has stayed in my mind forever! I've come to take revenge and wash your entire village in blood!"
The Wolf King's roar echoed through the sky, his voice dripping with confidence and malice.
Floating high above, his massive form radiated power. His golden eyes glinted with the promise of destruction.
Ye Liang narrowed his eyes and scoffed.
"Last time, I failed to kill you," he said coldly. "But this time, I will make sure not even your body remains."
Hahaha…
The Wolf King let out a booming laugh.
"Kill me? With how weak you are?" His grin widened, sharp fangs glistening. "Pathetic."
With a deep growl, the Wolf King released his aura.
Boom!
A wave of power burst forth, shaking the air. The clouds above churned violently. The villagers below stumbled back, fear gripping their hearts.
The Wolf King's aura kept rising—stronger and stronger—until it stabilized.
Early-stage Fusion Realm.
Ye Liang's face went pale.
"W-What? You… you broke through?"
Shock and disbelief filled his voice.
For years, Ye Liang had been stuck at the Peak-stage Refinement Realm, unable to break through no matter how hard he tried. His cultivation had reached a dead end.
And yet, the Wolf King had surpassed him.
Fusion Realm.
A level of power Ye Liang could not hope to match.
The gap between them was now too wide.
Ye Liang stared up at the Wolf King, his face grim. The beast hovered in the sky, a cruel smile playing on his lips. His blue fur glistened under the dark clouds, and his golden eyes gleamed with confidence.
"Master… what do we do?"
The village elders gathered behind Ye Liang, their faces pale and filled with fear.
Ye Liang clenched his fists, gritting his teeth.
The truth was harsh. Even if he and all the elders fought together, they wouldn't stand a chance. The Wolf King's power in the Fusion Realm far outmatched theirs.
Defeat seemed certain.
The villagers trembled, watching helplessly as doom loomed over them.
Suddenly—
A voice echoed through the air.
Old, raspy, yet filled with an arrogance that didn't match its age.
"Hey, you dumb bastard, look over here."
The words rang out, sharp and clear.
Everyone froze.
The Wolf King's grin faded, and he turned his head, eyes narrowing.
Ye Liang and the elders looked around, confused.
The voice came from the mountain path.
Step by slow step, leaning on a cane, an old man with long white hair appeared. His black robe fluttered in the breeze, and despite his frail body, his eyes burned with a strange confidence.
It was Ma Jeong.
And his arrogant smirk made it seem as if he was the one looking down on the Wolf King.
