Chapter 1185: The Name Of The King
The irritation in Gary's nose had intensified with the amount of people that were in front of him. He was doing everything in his power to not snarl and bare his teeth to the others. In the middle of trying to control himself, he was listening to the words carefully spoken by the vampires, and he was coming to a realization.
His first thoughts about them were right. Considering the other people who had entered the scene in front of him were claiming to be vampire leaders coming from other families, suggested that there were plenty of strong vampires, as strong as Haylock who he had fought.
In fact, three of them, including Haylock, had introduced themselves, confirming this fact. What was the difference between families, was it a relation of sorts, or was it something else completely?
Gary didn't really understand, until words were spoken, introducing one person in particular.
"We are here today, to formally introduce to you, the third Vampire king!"
'Did he say king… like those people that rule the land… king of the vampires?' Gary repeated in his head. If the leaders were extremely powerful, surely the one they claimed as their king would be at the very top.
This wasn't a word that was being used lightly, the same way as the Underworld had given themselves the names of Kings, this was a real king, and it was the one who controlled the very vampires in front of them.
The three leaders had stepped to the side, and Gary could see the person in front of him walking forward. He wore similar black clothing to the others, only lighter on his body. The cloth was free-flowing from his arms, and not tight along his clothes.
The clothing itself almost looked more like a simple tunic from the past. It wasn't exactly what he imagined a king would look like, at least not one that was from this day and age.
As for his face, he also looked as old as Haylock and Numan. With heavy grey hair and deep wrinkles. However, the man's hair was tied up in a bun, and flowed halfway down his back.
There was no doubt though, just like the others, this man was a vampire, his deep glowing red eyes showed it, and there was a confidence that was unmatched in him.
"Should we bow down or something?" Park whispered.
"No," Olivia answered immediately. "Who cares if he is a king or not. Remember these people tried to kill us, and they are here to visit us, they should be the ones who are courteous."
When Gary and the Vampire king locked eyes, neither of them bowed to each other and just stared straight ahead.
"I'm still curious about how they managed to clear the area," Austin said. "Gary, at any second this whole thing could turn, do you really think we shouldn't call the other Howler members?"
Gary used a few hand signals behind his back. They were short forms, some things Kai had come up with. At the time, everyone thought they were useless and they wouldn't be put in a situation where they really would be needed, and they could imagine Kai's smug face right now claiming he told them that it would come in handy one day.
Austin understood, and started to write, informing people to get here when they could, but try not to be noticed and not come too close. They were outnumbered and possibly outmatched in this situation.
"Gary Dem!" the king spoke first. "That is who I am in the presence of, correct?"
"Correct," Gary answered. "I am Gary Dem, the leader of the Howlers Group, and you are currently in Slough, in my territory… and it seems you have been getting quite busy."
It wasn't usual for Gary to speak with such confidence or introduce himself, but due to the situation that was in front of him, as soon as Gary heard the others speak, he thought he should introduce himself in the same way.
And Kai had hammered it in his head, that he wasn't to back down from others anymore. That they had earned their place as one of the Kings, so they shouldn't show weakness.
However, the response had a clear reaction as the vampires that were lined up were now bearing their teeth, and all of them were pointing towards Gary.
"You were the ones that attacked us!" Austin shouted, as steam was starting to come out of his nose. "Do you all want another beating!"
It was then that among the vampires Austin had even recognized a few of them. He had noticed that a lot of their wounds had healed up as well from those that he had hit. He knew Altered healed fast and same with werewolves but was it the case with vampires as well.
It was then the group themselves were starting to realize… what did they know about vampires? Was the lore they knew true about them, not being able to stand in sunlight? Being effective against crosses or garlic.
"Should I head to the shop?" Park mumbled out loud, thinking along the same lines as the others.
"I, as the leader of this group, and having a large interest in this town being my home, I have to ask you all, why did you attack us, and why are you here, and it better be a good answer," Gary asked again, not being intimidated by the other vampires or who was behind him.
The King smiled.
"Before that, I guess I have been a bit rude, I know you, but you know nothing about me, I was the past leader of the 11th family, now I am the current and the third Vampire King, Lucien Scutter."
