Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Dr. Connors
Following Gwen Stacy's steps, everyone came to Dr. Connors' laboratory. To be honest, Jason was not interested in these things at all, and he could not understand the various experimental instruments at all.
However, seeing Peter and the others were very interested and surprised, Jason could only be confused. The only thing that interested Jason was a holographic projection device in the center of the laboratory, which did not require a screen or background, but could be projected directly into the air.
I had only seen this thing in movies in my previous life, and even in this world, I had only seen it on TV. This thing seemed very expensive, and only laboratories under large companies like the Osborne Group could afford to equip it.
Jason and others were visiting this projection device. Others were looking at the various data and DNA maps projected by the device, but Jason was simply admiring the black technology of this device.
"Welcome, everyone." A gentle male voice attracted everyone's attention.
A middle-aged man with glasses and a gentle appearance walked towards everyone. In addition to his gentle and elegant bookish temperament, the most eye-catching thing about this man is his empty right arm.
"I am Dr. Curtis Connors. In case you are surprised, I have to remind you that I am left-handed."
Dr. Connors made a self-deprecating joke about his lost right arm. "I am not a disabled person, but a scientist. I am the best in the field of genetics and herpetology."
Dr. Connors was very confident. "First, let me explain the relationship between genetics and herpetology. As we all know, people are born with weaknesses. We will be knocked down by various diseases and accidents. For example, Parkinson's patients can only watch helplessly as their bodies become out of control day by day, and patients with severe macular degeneration can only watch hopelessly as their world falls into darkness day by day. And some people, like me, have lost parts of their bodies due to various accidents."
At this point, Dr. Connors adjusted his tone and continued, "I hope to be able to heal myself, and I hope to create a world without weaknesses. Let me do a small test. Does anyone know how to achieve this goal?" Dr. Connors asked the interns present in a slightly testing tone.
"Stem cell embryo technology!" Someone immediately answered.
"Well, it's close. But it's not perfect yet. Do you have any other ideas?"
Connors praised him, but he obviously didn't agree with the answer. There was silence for a while. Dr. Connors's topic was very deep, and it was completely beyond the understanding of these high school students.
"I think cross-species genetics should be of some use." Peter Parker said with a slightly uncertain tone, and everyone present turned their eyes to him.
"For example?" Dr. Connors smiled and continued to ask Peter.
"For example, Parkinson's disease is caused by the human stem cells stopping the secretion of dopamine, but there is a function in the DNA of zebrafish that can replace the function of stem cells to secrete dopamine. If the patient can get this part of the zebrafish DNA, then I think the patient can be cured." Peter was a little stuttering at first, but once he started to really explain, he immediately became very focused.
Dr. Connors's smile became more and more obvious as he looked at Peter. Gwen Stacy's eyes also became brighter and brighter as she looked at Peter, and she seemed to be attracted by Peter's focused expression.
"Who are you?" Dr. Connors asked, no longer hiding his smile.
"Peter~ My name is Peter Parker, Dr. Connors." Peter excitedly introduced himself to Dr. Connors.
"According to Harry, he is also the smartest student in Midtown High School." Gwen Stacy also helped Peter once, which made Peter leave a deep impression on Dr. Connors.
In the remaining time, Dr. Connors asked Gwen to take the summer interns to familiarize themselves with the laboratory and began to assign tasks to everyone. As a visitor, Jason could only chat with Harry on the side.
"The old men in the company don't accept me." Harry's tone was a little angry. He had been having a hard time taking over the management of the company recently.
"They seem to have forgotten that this group is called the Osborn Group, and I am Harry Osborn!"
"It's normal. The old stubborn people with rigid brains always think that their choices are correct." Jason leaned on the railing of the aisle and looked at the busy people in the laboratory.
"A young man under the age of 20 is standing above them like this. They will definitely be very unwilling. Think about Tony Stark! This philandering who appeared in entertainment newspapers more than business newspapers. He was only in his twenties when he was forced to take over Stark Industries. Look at the scale of Stark Industries now! This is a level that old Howard Stark has never reached."
"Old people always like nostalgia, they deny the creativity of young people. They just want to continue to rot in the hotbed of their own power. So Harry, don't be polite to them."
Jason adjusted his backrest and continued. "As long as Uncle Norman is alive, they can't make waves. You should use Uncle Norman's prestige and power! Don't think about working alone, let Uncle Norman pave the way for you! At worst, we can reshuffle the board of directors. As you just said, this group is called the Osborne Group!"
Harry looked at Jason in surprise, as if he was meeting him for the first time. "Jason, no kidding, I don't think you should be a chef. I'm seriously thinking of hiring you as my consultant."
Harry's tone was serious. "How did you come up with these? I never realized it before. It turns out you have a talent for power struggles!"
Of course, the older you get, the more you think, Jason secretly complained in his heart. After all, he has lived two lives and is already several dozen years old. His thoughts are completely different from those of a 17-year-old boy.
"Hi~ Mr. Tim, good morning." Harry was chatting with Jason when he saw a black man walking in this direction, and he immediately greeted him.
"Hi~ Harry, good morning. Why didn't you come to the office this morning?" asked the well-dressed black man who looked like an executive of the Osborne Group.
"Oh~ Today I have a friend who is going to join Dr. Connors' internship team, and this is another friend of mine named Jason Lee. I am showing him around our company." Harry said and introduced Jason to the black man named Tim.
"Hello Mr. Tim." Jason was the first to extend his hand to Tim and greet him.
"Hello Jason." Tim and Jason simply shook hands, and then adjusted the topic back to Harry.
"Harry, the board of directors will have a meeting this afternoon, and I hope you can be there. Otherwise, those shareholders will be sarcastic again."
"Okay, I will be there on time this afternoon."
"That's it, Harry, I still need to see Dr. Connors. Goodbye, both of you." After nodding to Harry and Jason, Tim walked quickly to Dr. Connors' laboratory and brought Dr. Connors into the office to discuss something important.
"Tim is the company's CEO and the only person who supports me on the board of directors." Harry whispered to Jason.
"What's the result?" Tim asked impatiently after bringing Dr. Connors into the office.
"I received the test feedback this morning. The reaction of deglycosylated nucleic acid is still not ideal. It still forms a dead cycle." Dr. Connors said dryly.
"This is expected."
"As expected?" Obviously Tim didn't think this was expected.
"You said it was almost successful!"
"Yes, it was almost successful. But it still needs time. The key is the decay rate algorithm. As long as I can verify the decay rate algorithm, I can find a solution quickly." Dr. Connors argued. But it was obvious that Tim didn't care about these things. He just wanted a result.
"Time? But we are running out of time! Norman Osborn is dying!" If Tim's words were known to outsiders, I guarantee that the stock price of Osborn Group would drop to a point where even his own mother wouldn't recognize him tomorrow.
Tim could see Harry from a distance through the glass of Dr. Connors' office.
"You need to save him, Dr. Connors. Otherwise, we will both be buried with him." Tim said expressionlessly.
"And this matter should not be known to anyone. Not even Harry Osborn." After saying that, Tim walked out of Dr. Connors' room.
At noon, Harry invited everyone to have lunch at a nearby high-end restaurant, including Gwen. "I don't think this sea bass is as delicious as the one you made, Jason."
Harry said as he ate the food on the plate. "Why is the sea bass you fried so tender and fresh?"
"Because before I fry it, I blanch it in hot water for two seconds and then throw it into ice water for a few seconds, so that the fish tastes better." Jason lowered his voice and said to the other three.
"This is a way of processing fish in Chinese cuisine. I combined it with Western cuisine. You can't tell others, it's a trade secret!"
"Wow, Jason, my mom will definitely like you. She is always obsessed with studying various recipes. I thought Harry was joking when he said you would become a world-class chef, but I didn't expect you really have such a special skill. You can actually combine Chinese and Western cooking methods so skillfully." Gwen said with some envy of Jason's cooking skills.
"Yes, Jason's cooking tastes great. I believe that many Michelin chefs can't cook better than him. You should try it Gwen." Peter followed up on Gwen's topic and winked at Jason. As a good friend, Jason knew what Peter meant at this time, so he said.
"Yes Gwen, I think you should try it. Are you free this Sunday? Come to my house and try my cooking. Of course, Harry and Peter will also go."
Peter secretly gave Jason a thumbs up.
"If that's the case, well! I'm very happy with your invitation!" Gwen readily accepted Jason's invitation to the party. Looking at the cheerful beauty Gwen, Jason thought: Peter, I can only help you here.
