Chapter 46: Chapter 46 - Trivia at the End of the Semester9 Feb
After everyone settled down, Madam Pomfrey went to Ryan's bed to examine him first, as he appeared to be the most injured.
After casting a spell on him, Madam Pomfrey let out an annoyed sigh. "I don't understand why the headmaster insists on including so many dangerous things at this school, leading to students getting hurt. Take you, for example, Ryan. Two broken ribs on the side, two fractured bones, and a contusion to your lungs—it's not a small injury."
"But you can cure me, right?" Ryan asked softly, looking up at Madam Pomfrey.
"Of course," she replied. "You only have trauma, which can be healed in one night. However, you may need to stay here overnight." After saying this, she cast a spell to fix Ryan's ribs and tossed a hospital gown onto the bed. "Honestly, for your age, your first aid skills are quite good. You managed to prevent more serious injuries. May I ask where you learned this?"
"Well, I'm Chinese," Ryan explained. "My grandfather used to run a herbal medicine shop in London's Chinatown. He knew a bit about Chinese medicine, and I learned from him."
"I see," Madam Pomfrey said, nodding. "I've heard from some healers at St. Mungo's that many traditional Muggle healing methods from the Far East were taught to them by local wizards. It's quite a remarkable place, where wizards and ordinary people have lived in harmony for thousands of years." She picked up a large bottle labeled 'Bone Spirit' and poured a glass of it.
Handing the glass to Ryan, she continued, "Take this. Although I could use magic to mend your bones instantly, it would overtax your body. Drinking this will be better for your recovery. You'll need to rest here tonight."
Ryan took the glass and drank the potion. A burning sensation rushed from his mouth down to his stomach, accompanied by a strange, indescribable taste—similar to an enhanced version of Huoxiangzhengqi water.
After Ryan finished the drink, Madam Pomfrey added, "Get some rest. You'll be fine by tomorrow morning."
She then moved on to tend to Ron. Not long after, Dumbledore arrived, floating a stretcher with Harry Potter lying on it.
"Professor, is Harry alright?" Ryan asked, concerned.
"Don't worry," Dumbledore reassured them. "Harry just passed out from some magical damage, but he'll be fine after a good rest."
Relieved, Ryan bid Hermione goodbye as she headed back to the dormitory, then chatted with Ron, who had to stay in the hospital for observation. Madam Pomfrey suspected Ron might have a concussion, so she insisted on keeping him overnight. Ryan and the others said good night and soon fell asleep.
The following days passed slowly, with one notable event—the last Quidditch match. Gryffindor suffered a crushing defeat to Ravenclaw, as they lacked a backup Seeker. Despite the loss, no one seemed too upset, as the players had done their best.
Every day at noon, the three friends visited the hospital to check on Harry's condition. On the third day after the adventure, just before the year-end banquet, they went to Madam Pomfrey's office to ask about Harry. At last, Harry had woken up.
Madam Pomfrey kindly gave them five minutes to speak with Harry. They approached his bed, where Harry was propped up against the pillow.
"Harry, are you feeling better now?" Ryan asked, stopping Hermione, who was excitedly about to hug him.
"I'm much better," Harry smiled. "I'll be out of here this afternoon."
"We all thought you might—well, Dumbledore was really worried," Ron said. "The whole school was talking about it. What exactly happened?"
Sometimes, the truth is even stranger than the rumors. Harry told them everything: about Quirrell, the Mirror, the Philosopher's Stone, and Voldemort. Ryan and the others listened intently, gasping nervously at the more thrilling parts of the story. When Harry described the face under Quirrell's turban, Hermione screamed.
"It looks like that person has returned. We can't let our guard down," Ryan said, concluding the conversation. The others nodded in agreement.
"So, the Philosopher's Stone is gone now?" Ron asked. "Did Lemay die?" He hesitated before adding, "What did Dumbledore say?"
Harry thought for a moment. "He said, 'For a man, death is just another great adventure.'"
"That's a bit strange," Ron muttered, still stunned that his hero, Dumbledore, could speak so philosophically.
"I don't think Dumbledore is crazy," Ryan interjected. "It's just that we're too young to fully understand. Remember the story of Malposa from Greek mythology?"
Hermione slapped her forehead. "Yes, I remember. She gave up immortality because she believed that being mortal allowed her to experience human sorrow. I don't fully get it, but I understand that immortality isn't always a blessing."
Harry and Ron were silent, unsure of how to respond. To break the tension, Ron quickly changed the subject to what happened when Harry faced the final level of the challenge.
"Do you think Dumbledore meant for you to go through all this?" Ron asked. "He gave you your father's invisibility cloak to guide you, right?"
Hermione couldn't help but voice her concerns. "If he really meant for you to do this… that's horrible! You could've been killed!"
Ryan disagreed. "I think Dumbledore just wanted to guide and teach Harry, not put him in danger. He didn't expect someone to sneak in like that. After all, he's a powerful wizard, but even he isn't a god. No one can know everything."
"I agree with Ryan," Harry said. "I think Dumbledore has been watching over us and guiding us, even if secretly. He must have believed I was ready to face Voldemort. I'm not an ignorant child anymore."
"Well, Dumbledore is definitely the greatest wizard of this century," Ryan said. "But what you need now is to recover quickly. Tomorrow is the year-end banquet, and I've heard from the older students that it's one of the best events at Hogwarts. You can't miss it."
Just then, Madam Pomfrey entered, looking stern.
"You've been here for nearly fifteen minutes," she said firmly. "It's time for you to leave."
Reluctantly, Ryan and his friends bid Harry goodbye and left the hospital wing.
