Chapter 7: Shadows That Serve The Light

As Yunfeng and Itachi stood in the dimly lit clearing where the spies' shack had been, Yunfeng suddenly stopped in his tracks. A thought crossed his mind, one he'd nearly forgotten amidst the night's events.

He muttered, "Oh, I almost forgot about the new system feature. System, check in."

[Ding! As a beginner's gift, you have been granted 3 check-ins with a Golden Luck bonus!]

Yunfeng's lips curled into a grin. "Golden Luck bonus?"

[Ding! You have checked in at the Spirit Hall Assassin/Spy Shack!]

[Ding! You have received: The Assassin Brotherhood!]

For a moment, Yunfeng froze, staring at the floating system panel in disbelief.

[Assassin Brotherhood] (Special Growth Summon)

[Base Location: Assassin Stronghold]

[Details: The Assassin Brotherhood. Assassins welcome the light and work in the dark to serve it. They are trained in unparalleled stealth and precision. They wear white robes and wield hidden blades infused with Spirit Energy. The Creed they follow has been perfected, ensuring their unwavering loyalty and purpose.]

[Special Feature: As you grow stronger, the Assassin Brotherhood will grow alongside you, and their strength and numbers will adapt to meet your needs.]

[Members:

- Grandmaster (Level 49)

- 3 Mentors (Level 43)

- 10 Master Assassins (Level 39)

- 30 Veterans (Level 31)

- 50 Disciples (Level 29)

- 100 Recruits (Level 25)]

Yunfeng's excitement surged as he read the details. He couldn't help but mutter to himself, "The Assassin Brotherhood? Wait, is this… from Assassin's Creed?!"

Before he could process further, a gray eagle suddenly let out a screech from above, and the shadows around him shifted. A figure emerged from the darkness, moving with an effortless grace that made even Itachi pause. The man wore a sleek gray robe, distinct from the white robes described, yet unmistakably Assassin-like. His face was sharp, with piercing eyes that carried wisdom beyond his years.

Yunfeng's breath caught as recognition hit him. "Altair…"

The man before him knelt on one knee, bowing his head respectfully. "Young master," Altair said, his voice deep and steady. "We serve you and your family. The Assassin Brotherhood has awaited your call."

Yunfeng's excitement reached its peak. "Altair? Not Ezio? Hah, it makes sense. You're the wisest Assassin, after all."

Altair rose, his expression calm and unreadable. "The Brotherhood stands ready, young master. If you wish, I will guide you to our stronghold."

"Stronghold?" Yunfeng repeated, intrigued.

Altair turned, gesturing for Yunfeng to follow. Without hesitation, Yunfeng and Itachi trailed behind him. As they approached the location where the decrepit shack once stood, Yunfeng stopped in his tracks, his eyes widening in disbelief.

The shack was gone, replaced by a sprawling stronghold that seemed to rise out of the earth itself. Majestic pavilions stood in perfect harmony with the surrounding forest, their elegant structures blending seamlessly with nature. The moonlight cast a serene glow over the entire compound, making it look almost ethereal.

Assassins in pristine white robes moved through the stronghold with purpose and precision. Some practiced their combat techniques in open courtyards, others meditated quietly under the trees, their serene expressions reflecting their discipline. Hidden blades gleamed in the moonlight, and faint whispers of Spirit Energy flickered around their equipment.

Yunfeng's jaw dropped as he took in the sight. "This… this is incredible. You built all of this in an instant?"

Altair turned slightly, his voice calm. "The Brotherhood is always prepared, young master. When summoned, we bring our legacy and our home with us."

Yunfeng stepped forward, marveling at the blend of tranquility and lethality the stronghold exuded.

He turned to Altair. "What's the current status of the Brotherhood?"

Altair inclined his head slightly. "The Brotherhood stands ready to serve you, young master. Our stronghold is fully operational. The Creed has been perfected to eliminate any flaws. We have three Mentors capable of overseeing new branches, ten Master Assassins for high-level missions, and thirty Veterans skilled in specialized operations. Additionally, one hundred recruits train under their guidance to ensure the Brotherhood's continued strength."

"The Creed?" Yunfeng asked.

Altair's eyes gleamed with quiet pride as he recited:

"Stay true to the light. Protect the innocent. Strike only in shadows, and let no harm befall those we serve."

Yunfeng couldn't help but smile. "Perfect. No loopholes, no blind spots. This is… incredible."

As he continued to marvel at the Brotherhood's efficiency, a thought crossed his mind. "System," he called out internally, "what does it mean that this is a 'Special Growth Summon'?"

[Ding! Special Growth Summons are unique. As you grow stronger, the summon will also grow, adapting to match your power. The Assassin Brotherhood's strength, numbers, and skills will evolve alongside you, ensuring they remain a powerful force.]

Yunfeng's eyes lit up. "So, they'll get stronger with me? This system just keeps getting better!"

Altair noticed Yunfeng's grin and asked, "Is everything to your satisfaction, young master?"

"More than you could imagine," Yunfeng replied, his tone brimming with excitement. The potential of the Assassin Brotherhood was immense, and he was eager to fully utilize it.

Altair gestured toward the largest pavilion. "Would you like to inspect the stronghold further? Or shall we prepare for your next orders?"

Yunfeng paused, his curiosity sparked. "Before anything else, I need to understand your capabilities. What are the Martial Spirits of the Assassins?"

Altair's voice was calm as he explained. "Every member of the Brotherhood shares the same Martial Spirit: the Hidden Blade. A weapon designed for stealth and precision, bound to their very essence. It's not just a tool, it's a symbol of their dedication to the Creed."

Yunfeng raised a brow. "The Hidden Blade… fitting. But what about spirit rings? Surely, they must have spirit skills tied to their blades."

Altair shook his head slightly. "Currently, none of us possess spirit rings. We must hunt Spirit Beasts to claim them. The Brotherhood was summoned in its purest form, ready to serve but requiring growth to reach its full potential."

Yunfeng tapped his chin, deep in thought. "No spirit rings yet… Then we'll need to prioritize that. The stronger you become, the better." He shifted his gaze back to Altair. "And recruitment? How do you ensure new members have the Hidden Blade Martial Spirit?"

Altair's expression remained steady. "The Brotherhood cannot recruit from this world, young master. Every member must be summoned through the system. This ensures absolute loyalty, purity of the Creed, and unity in purpose. There will be no exceptions."

Yunfeng nodded slowly, impressed. "That simplifies things. No worrying about spies or divided loyalties. But it also means I'll have to be careful about how I use my summons."

Altair inclined his head. "Your understanding is correct, young master."

After a moment of contemplation, Yunfeng straightened, his tone decisive. "For now, I want the Brotherhood to split into three groups, each led by a Mentor. You will gather intelligence on the three major powers: the Spirit Hall, the Heaven Dou Empire, and the Star Luo Empire. Each Mentor will oversee one region."

Altair listened intently to Yunfeng's orders. Yunfeng, on the other hand, felt a spark of confidence igniting within him. He wasn't just ordering any ordinary assassin group. He was commanding the Assassin Brotherhood, a legendary organization with skills honed in the darkest corners of history.

As he paced the stronghold's courtyard, Yunfeng's mind drifted back to the rich history of the Assassins, a legacy he remembered vividly from the games he had played in his past life.

The Assassin Brotherhood wasn't just about killing, it was about their art of mastery over stealth, patience, and planning. Their motto, "We work in the dark, to serve the light," reflected their philosophy. The Brotherhood operated not through brute strength but through precise strikes, ensuring their targets never saw them coming.

He glanced at Altair, the embodiment of the Brotherhood's ideals. Altair was no ordinary leader. His wisdom and strategic mind made him one of the most revered figures in the Brotherhood's history. If Altair led them, Yunfeng was sure they would achieve greatness, no matter the challenges.

"Altair," Yunfeng said suddenly, his tone casual but firm, "I'm confident the Brotherhood can handle these assignments. Even though your ranks are still low, I believe no one below Level 80 could even detect you. And even if there were such a threat, I know you wouldn't be foolish enough to confront them."

Altair nodded slightly. "You understand us well, young master. The Creed teaches caution as much as it teaches precision. We do not act unless the shadows are in our favor."

Yunfeng smirked, remembering how the Assassins in the games outsmarted kings, emperors, and even entire armies. Their strength wasn't just in their combat skills but in their ability to plan meticulously and adapt to any situation.

"The Assassins have a legacy of infiltrating the most guarded places in the world," Yunfeng said, his voice filled with admiration. "From grand castles to bustling cities, your kind always managed to stay unseen. You toppled regimes without anyone knowing who you were. That's why I'm sure you can gather information without being caught."

Altair's gaze was steady. "Your trust will not be misplaced, young master. The Brotherhood thrives on preparation and strategy. We will ensure no trace of us remains wherever we tread."

Yunfeng continued, his confidence growing. "And when it comes to assassination… you've proven time and again that even the most powerful enemies can fall with the right approach. One precise strike is all it takes. You don't need brute force; you need the right moment. That's why I'm not worried."

Altair's lips curved into a faint smile. "The Creed ensures that every action has a purpose. Rest assured, young master, the Brotherhood will deliver results beyond your expectations."

Yunfeng stopped pacing and faced Altair directly. "Then it's settled. Use your stealth, your precision, and your wisdom to infiltrate and gather intelligence. If Spirit Hall or the empires try to move against us, I want to know before they even think of acting."

"As you command, young master," Altair replied, bowing slightly.

Yunfeng continued, "The Grandmaster, yourself, will stay by my side. I'll need your expertise and protection."

"As you command, young master," Altair replied with a slight bow.

Yunfeng's gaze sharpened. "One more thing. The Brotherhood needs a source of income, and my Zhao Family could benefit from it as well. I want you to accept assassination missions, but with a strict condition: only target the corrupt. No innocents, no collateral damage. The Creed serves the light, after all."

Altair's lips curled into a faint smile. "That aligns perfectly with the Brotherhood's principles, young master. We will accept such missions without hesitation."

"Good." Yunfeng folded his arms, satisfied. "With this, the Brotherhood can sustain itself while also cleaning up this world's filth. A win-win situation. This is killing two birds with one stone."

Altair straightened. "If I may, young master, when shall we begin the hunts for spirit rings? Without them, our strength will remain limited."

"Let's focus on intelligence gathering first," Yunfeng replied. "We'll plan the hunts after I've assessed the bigger picture. Spirit Hall is likely to make moves soon, and we can't afford to waste time."

"Understood," Altair said.

Yunfeng glanced around at the serene yet powerful presence of the stronghold. "Altair, make the preparations. The Brotherhood's first steps in this world start now. And remember, all actions must align with the Creed. No deviation."

Altair placed a hand over his heart in a gesture of respect. "By your will, young master."

"Altair," Yunfeng added, his voice low but firm, "the shadows are your domain. Show this world why the Brotherhood is unmatched."

"With pleasure, young master," Altair replied, his tone as calm as ever.

The light may have been far away, but with the shadows serving him, Yunfeng knew he would soon bring it closer to those who deserved it, and cast it away from those who didn't.
