Chapter 135: Chapter 135
At the same time, Eren realized what the man, overwhelmed by pain and despair, had left behind for him.
A fragmented shard of the forbidden item "Shadow of Suffocation."
This incomplete shadow was far from a full-fledged forbidden item. In fact, it was even weaker than the embryonic form of the original 'Shadow of Suffocation.'
The abilities of this fragment were simple:
It could infiltrate a target's shadow, suffocating them by metaphorically "drowning" their shadow, causing the target to die from asphyxiation.
Alternatively, if the target was unconscious or dead, it could manipulate their body or corpse.
Despite its simplicity, the fragment was undeniably potent.
In this world where the supernatural remained largely unseen, the power was sufficient to kill 99% of people, barring a few exceptional individuals.
However, being a fragmented version, the 'Shadow of Suffocation' had notable flaws.
It was vulnerable to light. In environments with strong illumination, its abilities would be drastically weakened, and it could even be forced out of a host's shadow.
Additionally, its side effects were significant. Prolonged possession could subtly interfere with the host's breathing reflex, creating a risk of death by suffocation.
As the sacred white flames in the room dimmed and the translucent figure dissolved into nothingness, Eren sighed softly and turned to leave.
With the 'Shadow of Suffocation' no longer parasitizing the apartment and feeding on despair, the building became no different from any ordinary residence, aside from the abundance of corpses.
The once suffocating air was now breathable again.
After carefully erasing all traces of his presence in the Peace Apartment, Eren left swiftly as the faint sound of police sirens echoed in the distance.
When the NYPD precinct in Chinatown arrived at the scene, they were greeted by the sight of over a hundred corpses packed into the apartment building.
Their faces darkened instantly.
Such a large-scale loss of life within their jurisdiction was bound to cause significant trouble, not only for them but for their superiors as well.
Unconcerned by the chaos in the NYPD, Eren was sitting in a 24-hour café, enjoying a leisurely cup of coffee with his clone.
Setting down the slightly bitter coffee, the tuxedo-clad Clown Eren smirked and scoffed, "I never thought that big brute Kingpin could endure so much. I've already destroyed a dozen of his bases, almost wiping out his operations in Hell's Kitchen, and he's still hiding in the shadows."
In recent weeks, Clown Eren had been busy dismantling Kingpin's criminal empire, taking down one or two of his operations every day.
Yet, despite these provocations, Kingpin hadn't shown himself. He hadn't even sent his enforcer, Bullseye, into action.
This unusual behavior left Clown Eren puzzled.
Eren shook his head. "Why not just use divination or a homing charm to locate him? It'd save a lot of time."
Clown Eren's grin widened mischievously. "Oh, no, that's no fun! Don't worry, I won't take too long."
Seeing the playful glint in Clown Eren's eyes, Eren sighed. "Fine, do whatever makes you happy."
With that, Eren tapped his foot lightly against his shadow. A long, slender shadow emerged, slithered across the floor, and merged into Clown Eren's shadow.
Eren had come to the café specifically to transfer the Shadow of Suffocation to his clone.
After its integration into his own shadow, Eren had noticed that the Angel's Staff seemed to reject the shadow's presence. If not for his suppression, the staff might have unleashed a holy flame to purge it.
To avoid any conflict, Eren decided to pass the shadow onto his clone.
As the fragment merged into his shadow, Clown Eren's eyes lit up. He grinned like a child receiving a new toy, clearly delighted.
"This shard isn't weak. Used correctly, it could provide some unexpected advantages. Just watch out for its side effects—I don't want to have to resurrect you someday because you suffocated."
In addition to the 'Shadow of Suffocation,' Eren handed over the Cursed Straw Doll and the Crystal Eye that his clone had requested.
With the transfer of these items complete, Eren left the café without delay.
Meanwhile, at a classified S.H.I.E.L.D. base, now operating under the new name, a man known as Crossbones—Brock Rumlow—was frowning as he examined a dossier.
Codename: Clown.
Gender: Male.
Real Name: Unknown.
Abilities: Exceptional marksmanship and combat skills.
Notes: Suspected of possessing supernatural abilities.
Personality: ...
The dossier was detailed, documenting every known event involving Clown Eren, from his first appearance to his systematic dismantling of Kingpin's empire in Hell's Kitchen.
Even Clown Eren's current residence was marked.
Rumlow looked up from the file and addressed the figure before him. "What do you want me to do?"
"This clown has been destroying Kingpin's operations in Hell's Kitchen. Not long ago, Kingpin approached us, offering a significant reward to eliminate this problem for him."
Rumlow raised an eyebrow. "You want me to do a favor for that crime lord?"
"No. I want the item that clown stole. According to our intel, he was the one who took Iron Monger's head. Rumlow, we need that head."
