Chapter 40: Chapter 40
Dressed in his ninja attire, wearing a conical straw hat, and carrying his sword, Haruto Saito walked towards the bustling market district. His belongings were stored in his ninja tool pouch, and behind him, Tsunade was still sound asleep in the dirt pit.
...
Meanwhile, in the Hokage's office within the Hokage Tower, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, was reviewing documents.
Whoosh!
A masked Anbu ninja suddenly appeared, kneeling on one knee as he quickly reported, "Lord Hokage, the Police Force has relayed a report—Lady Tsunade has buried Haruto Saito alive at his residence."
"Hmm?" Hiruzen paused, looking up at the Anbu with a moment of contemplation before lowering his gaze back to the documents. "No need to intervene. Tsunade knows her limits. She wouldn't actually harm him. However... spread the news."
"Understood!" The Anbu ninja acknowledged the command and swiftly disappeared.
...
Market District.
As Haruto stepped onto the crowded streets, he lowered the brim of his hat and blended into the flow of people.
At this moment, not many people in the village could recognize his face at a glance. With a population of nearly 200,000, the Hidden Leaf Village was a diverse and complex society. As long as his heterochromatic eyes weren't seen, the chances of being identified were quite low.
Hiyori Accessories Store.
Haruto stood at the entrance, glanced up at the store's sign, then lowered his head, adjusting his hat before stepping inside.
This was one of the largest accessory shops in the village's market district, selling earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings, pendants, and also other fashion items like glasses, gloves, and scarves.
Once inside, Haruto scanned the shop quickly before making his way to the section selling eyewear.
A few minutes later, Haruto emerged from the store.
He had removed his hat, slinging it behind his back, and changed his hairstyle. His forehead protector was now properly displayed, and he was wearing a pair of black sunglasses over his nose.
This wasn't an unusual look in the village. In the original series, several ninjas wore similar accessories—like Ebisu or even a young Obito Uchiha with his signature goggles.
Black neutralized any color. This was the best way to conceal his distinctive eye color.
In fact, Haruto had wanted to ask the shopkeeper if they sold colored contact lenses. However, considering the technological level of the ninja world, he refrained from doing so.
"Hah, they won't recognize me now!" Haruto muttered, feeling much more at ease as he strolled through the streets. He keenly observed the people around him—villagers, merchants, travelers, and shinobi. Not a single person recognized him!
A twelve-year-old genin was nothing special in the Hidden Leaf. While they weren't a majority, there were still plenty of them.
"Alright, first, food. Then, I'll pick up a mission," Haruto decided, quickening his pace.
This time, he avoided Echigawa Ramen, opting instead for Fukuwa Inn, a high-end restaurant. He had spent most of the past month eating at Echigawa Ramen, and some of the regular shinobi patrons might recognize him there.
...
Fukuwa Inn, second floor, by the window.
Haruto had ordered a large bowl of beef ramen. As he waited, he sat quietly, listening.
The second floor wasn't very large, with only about eight or nine tables. Since it was still before lunchtime, only three were occupied—all by shinobi.
Haruto had already noticed that in the Hidden Leaf Village, the wealthiest people were not merchants but ninjas. While large merchants existed, the sheer number of high-earning shinobi far surpassed them.
"Is it true? That kid really got buried alive?"
"Of course it's true! The Police Force leaked the news. Lady Tsunade buried him alive to avenge Uzumaki Kushina."
"That's... brutal. Would've been better to just cut him down with a single strike!"
"Lady Tsunade's temper... that was her showing restraint."
Three shinobi walked up the stairs, chatting loudly. Haruto overheard the conversation and couldn't help but smirk.
So, the news had spread.
The trio belonged to the village's patrol division, likely just off-duty and stopping by for a meal. They sat at the table beside Haruto's, ordering food and continuing their discussion.
"Do you think the Hokage will intervene?"
"Since when has Lord Hokage ever interfered with Lady Tsunade's actions? Remember that time a Jonin from the Hyuga Clan, Hyuga Junpei, offended her? She nearly beat him to death—cut off his arm. It wasn't until the Hyuga patriarch personally apologized that the matter was settled."
"Wait, wasn't Hyuga Junpei killed? Didn't he survive?"
"Oh, he died. But from what I heard, it wasn't Tsunade who finished him. It was Lord Orochimaru. There's no proof, but everyone knows."
"What a tragic fate."
"That's nothing. You remember the Shirohaku Casino Massacre from two years ago?"
"Of course! Thirty-nine people dead. That had something to do with Lady Tsunade?"
"It wasn't 'related'—she was the one who did it! Keep your voice down! The casino owner, some guy named Asouki, was caught cheating against her. Not only did he clean her out, but he also insulted her. She snapped, went on a rampage, and killed thirty-nine people. She leveled two whole floors. Over a hundred bystanders were injured. The Anbu had to step in to cover it up."
"No way... Lady Tsunade? I mean, she has a bad temper, but would she really slaughter a whole casino? Wasn't Lord Orochimaru there too?"
"No one knows for sure, but the records were sealed."
"Honestly, those incidents are nothing. The worst case was Haino Tomizo—captain of the Interrogation Squad. Lady Tsunade hunted him down for an entire month, chasing him from the Land of Fire to the Land of Lightning. She cut off his limbs, dragged him back, and strung him up on a flagpole for three days. That was brutal."
"Sasaki Kane got it just as bad. Lady Tsunade nearly beat him to death one day, and the next, his severed head was hanging at the village gate."
Haruto sat there, frozen.
"Sir, your ramen. Please enjoy," the waiter said, placing the steaming bowl on the table.
Haruto didn't react at all.
This was terrifying!
Tsunade!
Was this really that Tsunade? Or was this a horror movie antagonist?
"Check, please!" Haruto slammed money onto the table, vaulted over the windowsill, and took off!
He had to go back!
Running wasn't an option anymore. He needed to fix this!
...
Moments later, Haruto sprinted back to the lakeside, panting heavily as he reached the dirt pit.
Tsunade was still sound asleep, covered in dirt like a buried corpse.
No one else had been here yet.
"Damn it..." Haruto muttered, leaping into the pit. He scooped her up in his arms and jumped back out, landing softly on the ground.
He hesitated.
He wanted to just dump her in the lake to wash her off, but the water was too cold—it might shock her awake. On the other hand, carrying her into his bathroom... he really didn't want to dirty it.
After three full minutes of contemplation, he sighed.
"This is a disaster..." Haruto groaned, resigning himself as he carried Tsunade towards the bathroom.
