Chapter 20: Chapter 19 : Improvement
Sasuke opened the so-called "ultimate training manual" suspiciously, only to see that the entire booklet had only five words: "It all depends on the teacher!"
"??" Sasuke's face twisted in confusion, black question marks practically floating above his head. "Are you kidding me?!"
"Ahem." Naruto coughed awkwardly, scratching the back of his head. "The manual was too long, and copying it was a pain. I figured it'd be better to teach you personally."
Sasuke's expression darkened.
"Now then..." Naruto took out a large sealing scroll and unfurled it. With a poof of smoke, a massive turtle shell appeared on the ground. He gestured toward it with a smirk. "Come on, put it on!"
"??" Sasuke blinked. "The hell is this?"
Naruto, still grinning, explained, "This is an artifact passed down from the legendary Sage of the Six Paths. Do you want it? Do you still want to get stronger? Or was all that talk just for show?"
[Legendary Turtle Shell: A training relic designed to adjust its weight based on the user's physical growth, ensuring optimal body conditioning.]
Sasuke clenched his jaw, picked up the turtle shell, and strapped it to his back. The moment he secured it, he staggered. "What the—?! It felt so light at first!"
Naruto ignored his complaints and led him to a nearby farm, where an old man was tilling the soil with a hoe.
"Hey, old man! We're here to help," Naruto called out.
"Oh, Naruto! Is this the young ninja wanting to experience civilian life? What a dedicated kid." The old man wiped the sweat off his brow and chuckled.
"Alright, Sasuke, show him what you got." Naruto gestured grandly.
Sasuke, annoyed, released a Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu! A massive fireball landed in a ditch near the field, sending dirt flying.
The old man gave him a thumbs-up. "Nice, you'll be useful today."
"Alright! Don't worry, old man!" Naruto took the hoe from him and shoved it into Sasuke's hands. "Here, plow this entire field."
Sasuke's eye twitched. "You're making me plow a field?!"
Naruto shrugged. "I love hard work, just not the kind where I have to do it myself."
Sasuke gritted his teeth, lifted the hoe, and started working with the turtle shell still weighing him down.
Meanwhile, Naruto whipped out a deck chair, popped open a sun umbrella, and lounged under the sun, completing his very important daily tasks.
Moments later, Shikamaru, Kiba, and Choji strolled by. Within minutes, three additional deck chairs appeared next to Naruto's.
By the time the sun set, Sasuke had finally finished plowing the field, utterly drained. As he turned toward the lounging slackers, watching them sip drinks under the shade, his eye twitched violently.
He stomped up to Naruto and threw the hoe at him.
"We're done plowing."
Naruto lazily opened one eye and tossed a slip of paper to Sasuke. "Here. Follow the instructions, buy the listed ingredients yourself. Everything you need is on there."
Sasuke caught the paper, scowling. Before he could complain, Naruto stood up, pulled out a small capsule, and tossed it on the ground. With a poof, all the deck chairs vanished.
The others stared in shock. "Naruto, what was that?!"
"Uh—" Naruto sweated nervously, realizing he'd just shown off his latest experiment in front of too many witnesses. "It's a newly developed, ultra-expensive, super-convenient sealing scroll! Very pricey! Anyway, gotta go!"
He bolted before anyone could question him further, leaving the others with blank stares.
For the next six months, Naruto dragged Sasuke all over Konoha, making him work various odd jobs—all while wearing the turtle shell. Delivering ramen, hauling dirt at construction sites, carrying water barrels, and more. Thanks to Naruto's special medicated baths, Sasuke never felt sore the next day, but the weight of the shell only increased over time.
Every day, Naruto lay back on his chair while Shikamaru and the others joined him in supervising Sasuke's hard labor.
Finally, half a year later, after watching Naruto and a contractor exchange money for a day's worth of brick-moving labor, Sasuke had enough. Furious, he ripped the turtle shell off his back and hurled it to the ground.
"You bastard! You've just been making money off me this whole time!"
Fuming, he charged at Naruto, swinging a punch. But to everyone's shock, he vanished in an instant and reappeared next to Naruto in the blink of an eye.
"Naruto, watch out!" Shikamaru shouted.
Naruto barely moved—just tilted his head slightly. Sasuke's fist slammed into the brick wall behind him, leaving a massive hole.
Naruto sighed and turned to the stunned contractor. "Sorry, uncle. I'll skip today's payment—use it to fix the wall."
"O-okay!" The contractor stammered.
Naruto turned back to Sasuke, who was still staring at his own fist in shock. "See?" he smirked. "You've improved. That shell constantly adjusted its weight to keep you training at max intensity without you realizing it."
Sasuke silently picked up the turtle shell, his gaze now burning with determination.
"Good. That's enough for today. Training continues tomorrow." Naruto waved him off, already heading toward the Hyuga compound.
Hokage's Office
Hiruzen Sarutobi sat at his desk, peering through his telescope jutsu, watching over Konoha. His nose twitched, and suddenly, a thin trickle of blood dripped from his nostril.
A masked Anbu operative appeared in front of him. Hiruzen quickly wiped his nose and coughed. "Ahem! Report. Anything new with Naruto?"
"No emergencies, Lord Hokage," the Anbu replied. "But Naruto has been tricking a certain Uchiha into doing manual labor all over the village."
"Nani?!" Hiruzen's expression twisted in disbelief. Am I not paying the boy enough?!
After a moment of thought, he muttered, "Hmm... Uchiha Izumi has been living with him. Perhaps I've been too stingy. Double Naruto's allowance. Dismissed."
"Yes, Lord Hokage." The Anbu disappeared.
Hiruzen sighed in relief and resumed his telescope jutsu, claiming it was for village security purposes... before another nosebleed started.
Meanwhile…
Walking home after dropping Hinata off, Naruto sighed, rubbing his chin. "Hah… The dumb Uchiha kid is catching on. Time to kick things up a notch. Gotta make sure I'm still profiting off his training."
The next morning, Sasuke was already waiting at the academy gates. "What's today's training?!"
Naruto, caught off guard, stared at him. Damn, was I too effective?
"Ahem, today we're adding a new challenge." He led Sasuke to the training ground, stopping under a large tree.
"Ready?" Naruto asked with an oddly mischievous smile.
"Of course!" Sasuke responded enthusiastically, still hyped from his recent growth.
Naruto pulled out a thick rope, tying one end to the tree and the other securely around Sasuke's waist. He tugged it—yep, nice and tight.
"Alright, let's begin!" Naruto grinned, tossing a small rock at the tree before vanishing in an instant. From a safe distance, his voice rang out:
"Your task today—DODGE the bees. No attacking!"
"??" Sasuke blinked. "Bees?"
Then he heard it. A loud, ominous buzzing.
Looking up, his eyes widened in horror.
"OH, SH—!!!"
He tried to run but was yanked back by the rope, right into the incoming swarm.
Naruto laughed in the distance. "I will Cheer for you, Sasuke! I will Cheer for you"
