Chapter 43: 43. betrayal
The Mizukage stood in confusion as he watched the clones of the blond man vanish one by one. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his arm—the arm that was holding Mei by her throat.
The next thing he knew, his severed hand was on the ground, blood pooling around it.
Standing just a few feet away was Hiroshi, his dagger covered in fresh blood as he held Mei in his arms.
The Mizukage growled in pain, clutching his bleeding arm. "You…"
On other hand, Mei blinked through the haze of pain and exhaustion, realizing she was in Hiroshi's arms. Her heart raced, not just from the battle but from the realization of how close they were.
She could feel the warmth of his arms, the steadiness of his hold. For a moment, everything else faded away.
But then she glanced at Konan, who was standing a few feet away, bloodied but alive.
'Konan loves him too…' she thought, her lips pressing into a thin line. 'But I won't share him. Hiroshi will be mine alone.'
Mei leaned up and kissed Hiroshi on the lips, her hand weakly reaching up to touch his face.
Hiroshi blinked in surprise but didn't pull away. The kiss was brief, and as it ended, Mei whispered, "Thank you."
Hiroshi's face softened for a moment as he placed her gently on the ground. His hands glowed faintly with chakra as he healed the stump where her arm had been severed.
"You'll be okay now," he said simply, his voice calm but firm.
Hiroshi turned his attention back to the Mizukage "You'll regret that,"
"I've already had enough regrets. You won't be one of them."
The Mizukage charged, his chakra flaring wildly. Water swirled around him, forming massive tendrils that lashed out at Hiroshi like serpents.
Hiroshi dodged effortlessly, moving like a shadow. His dagger flashed, cutting through the water tendrils as if they were paper.
The fight escalated quickly, with the Mizukage unleashing powerful jutsu after jutsu. Water dragons roared, filling the battlefield with deafening noise, but Hiroshi countered each one with gravity and light-based attacks.
At one point, the Mizukage created a massive tidal wave, aiming to drown Hiroshi and everyone else on the battlefield. Hiroshi raised his hand, and a dome of gravitational energy formed around him, pushing the water away in all directions.
"You can't win," Hiroshi said, his voice echoing across the battlefield.
The Mizukage snarled, "You think you're invincible?!"
Hiroshi's reply was a single step forward. In an instant, he was in front of the Mizukage, his dagger pressed against the man's throat.
"This ends now," Hiroshi said coldly.
"Stop, or she dies."
Just as Hiroshi was about to deliver the final blow, a chilling voice cut through the air.
Hiroshi froze, his dagger inches from the Mizukage's neck. He turned his head slowly to see Mei's father standing behind her, a sword pressed against her throat.
Mei's eyes widened in shock. "Father… what are you doing?"
Her father's expression was cold, devoid of the warmth she had once known. "I'm doing what's necessary. If you kill the Mizukage, I'll kill her."
Mei's heart shattered. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. The man who had raised her, who had taught her right from wrong, was now threatening her life.
"You're working with him…" Mei whispered, her voice trembling. "How could you?"
Her father didn't answer, his grip on the sword tightening.
Hiroshi's eyes narrowed. He didn't lower his dagger, but his mind raced as he tried to figure out a way to save Mei without endangering her further.
"Let her go," Hiroshi said, his tone low and dangerous. "This is between me and the Mizukage."
"No," Mei's father said, his voice steady. "This is about survival. Do as I say, or she dies."
Hiroshi stood still, his dagger in hand, his face calm but unreadable. A smirk slowly spread across his lips, and his piercing gaze locked onto Mei's father.
'Fool,' Hiroshi thought. 'I could end this with a single thought. He doesn't realize how far out of his league he is.'
His smirk deepened as he considered the countless ways he could eliminate Mei's father without moving an inch. One flick of his fingers, and the man's sword would shatter like glass. One burst of gravity release, and he'd crumble under the pressure.
But Hiroshi hesitated. Mei was watching him, her life hanging in the balance. He didn't want to risk her safety—not when the situation was this delicate.
Suddenly, the air around them shimmered, and a low, unnatural hum filled the battlefield. The space between Hiroshi and Mei began to distort, as if reality itself was bending.
"What's going on?" Mei's father muttered, his grip on the sword faltering slightly.
Before anyone could react, the distortion grew larger, forming a swirling vortex of black and gray.
"No..." Hiroshi's eyes narrowed, his smirk fading instantly. 'Kamui!'
In an instant, Mei, her father, and the Mizukage were sucked into the vortex and vanished without a trace. The space around them snapped back to normal, leaving Hiroshi standing alone in eerie silence.
"Hiroshi," Nova's voice echoed urgently in his mind. "It's Obito. He used Kamui to teleport them into his dimension."
Hiroshi clenched his fists, his dagger glowing faintly as his anger rose. "Where are they now?" he demanded.
"I'm receiving a signal from the tracker seal on Mei," Nova replied. "It's faint, but I've pinpointed her location. She's in the Land of Demons."
Hiroshi exhaled sharply, his mind racing. 'The Land of Demons... Obito, you've made this personal.'
His smirk returned, though this time it was colder, sharper—filled with dangerous intent. "Nova," he said calmly, "prepare everything. We're not letting this slide."
"Yes, on it."
Hiroshi looked at the spot where Mei had stood moments ago, his eyes burning with determination. "Hold on, Mei. I'll find you.
Obito... you'll pay for this."
