Naruto: Starting with Infinite Chakra

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: So Eager to Learn

Normally, once the Rabbit-Masked Anbu used his Hiding with Camouflage Technique, combined with the summoning beast's ability to suppress its presence, even advanced sensory techniques wouldn't detect him.

Take Jiraiya's Wind Release: Wind Web as an example. It was a low-level, entry-grade sensory ninjutsu. If the opposing ninja specialized in concealing their chakra, detecting them would be almost impossible.

But Jiraiya was an exception. Thanks to the intense training he had undergone over the past few days, his Sage Body had awakened a new ability: detecting subtle chakra fluctuations in his surroundings and amplifying the effectiveness of sensory ninjutsu.

To the Rabbit-Masked Anbu, his actions seemed completely hidden. Yet, in Jiraiya's eyes, the man shone like a beacon in the darkness—impossible to miss.

'Wow, look at all this stuff he's stashed away!'

'Huh? There are even techniques like this? Damn, I need to try some of these out with my wife when I get back.'

The Anbu infiltrated Jiraiya's house and immediately stumbled upon his collection of manga and novels. Gazing at the fiery covers, he couldn't help but pick one up and flip through it. His mind was instantly blown, as if he'd discovered a whole new world of possibilities. He had unknowingly picked up some... interesting new techniques.

"Enjoying yourself? If you're truly eager to learn, why not bring your wife along? I can give you a live demonstration so you'll master it even faster."

The Rabbit-Masked Anbu froze at the sound of Jiraiya's voice. The comic in his hand slipped to the floor. He turned to see Jiraiya leaning casually in the doorway, grinning at him with mocking eyes.

'Damn it! How did he notice me? Could it have been his ninjutsu?'

The Anbu's surprise was palpable. During his infiltration, he had sensed traces of wind chakra filling the courtyard—undoubtedly from the Wind Web Technique. But he hadn't paid it any mind. After all, the technique shouldn't have been able to detect him.

Still, Jiraiya had found him.

Without missing a beat, the Anbu reached for a smoke bomb on his belt, throwing it to the ground. Bang! White smoke filled the room, obscuring everything in sight. Using the cover, he activated the Body Flicker Technique and made his escape.

Since the mission had already failed, staying any longer would only risk attracting Konoha's patrol squads. If that happened, not only would he be in serious trouble, but Danzo wouldn't lift a finger to help him. Instead, the man would likely have him executed to cover his tracks.

"Think my house is some sort of playground? Come and go as you please? Not a chance."

Jiraiya's cold laugh echoed as he activated his own Body Flicker Technique, effortlessly keeping up. His enhanced sensory ability rendered the smoke useless—it might as well not have been there at all. He could see the Anbu's every move as clearly as daylight.

The only reason he hadn't stopped the intruder inside was that he didn't want his house destroyed in the process. Unlike Yamato, Jiraiya couldn't whip up a new house with Wood Release after a fight.

"Impressive," the Rabbit-Masked Anbu muttered under his breath as he fled. "To track me so precisely... he really is the Third Hokage's apprentice."

Initially, the Anbu thought Jiraiya had set traps inside the house that alerted him. But now, outside the village, it was clear that Jiraiya's ability to sense him came entirely from his own skills.

Despite his frustration, the Anbu had no intention of engaging Jiraiya in combat. He bolted toward the village's outskirts, heading for the rendezvous point where his backup waited.

"You're in such a hurry. What's wrong? Going back to fetch your wife so I can demonstrate those moves for you?" Jiraiya's teasing voice rang out behind him. "You really are eager to learn, aren't you? But let me warn you—if your wife's ugly, I'm not interested."

Two ordinary shuriken flew through the air toward the Anbu as Jiraiya mocked him.

The Anbu leapt onto a tree branch, unsheathing his standard-issue Anbu katana in one fluid motion. With a sharp swing, he deflected the shuriken with ease.

The fact that Jiraiya had followed him out of the village caught him off guard. Hearing Jiraiya's taunts only added fuel to his already simmering anger.

"Cocky brat. The last Chūnin who dared speak to me like that... his grave's grass is already half a meter tall," the Anbu growled.

With a burst of speed, he lunged at Jiraiya, his katana flashing in the moonlight.

Clang!

Sparks flew as the Anbu's katana met Jiraiya's shuriken, the clash resounding like a bell in the still night.

Jiraiya grinned as he effortlessly blocked the strike.

"The last guy who talked to me like that? His grave doesn't even have grass—it's barren."

With a light hop, Jiraiya put some distance between them. His taunting smirk remained, his confidence unwavering.

When it came to trash talk, no one could beat Jiraiya.
