Chapter 351: Chapter 351: Standard for Making Trouble
Shinki took out the scroll and the items inside, explaining:
"This is another harm caused by war and the consequence of unchecked ambition. If the Daimyo of the Rain Country had been ambitious enough to support the equally ambitious Hanzo of the Salamander and focused only on strengthening the Rain Village, threatening the larger ninja villages, war would have inevitably broken out in the Rain Country."
"However, even if war had broken out there, the damage to the Rain Country might not have been as severe. At the very least, the Rain Village could have preserved some of its strength. After the war, the Rain Village could step up to maintain order, allowing the Rain Country to stabilize quickly."
The trauma and aftermath brought by war were truly devastating.
The three girls, having lived their lives within the safety of the village, had never directly experienced war or its consequences. Shinki's words served as a harsh but necessary lesson for them.
Kushina, despite experiencing the loss of her clan, had been brought to Konoha before its annihilation. At her young age, her grief was all-consuming, leaving her no time to think about the broader horrors of war.
Only now did she begin to grasp the true terror of it.
"What about Konoha and the Sand Village?" she asked.
Shinki put a piece of meat in the pot. Pausing briefly, he chuckled and replied, "The village and the Sand Village? There's no need to even ask. Both have suffered tremendous losses, especially the Sand Village. Even if the Wind Country stabilizes, it will take them at least ten years to recover."
"As for Konoha, our Hokage is always dealing with one crisis after another, though most ordinary people aren't aware of it."
Shinki couldn't help laughing as he thought about the strained expressions of the Third Hokage in recent days.
"Worried? Well, there's more to worry about coming. That's the mission and responsibility of a Hokage," he added with a smirk.
He chose not to delve into the darker and more radical aspects of the situation, as the three girls were not yet ready to hear it.
"Master Shinki, let me help," Uchiha Mikoto offered, taking over the cooking tasks. She began washing and preparing the meat and rice with practiced ease.
Watching Mikoto work so efficiently made Kushina and Hyuga Mehu feel embarrassed. Mikoto always took the lead, her culinary skills far surpassing theirs. While Kushina could cook basic meals and Mehu barely knew how much water to use for rice, Mikoto seemed like a natural chef.
"What are you two doing? Come and help!" Shinki called out, breaking the awkward silence.
Kushina grinned and ran over. Mehu, blushing, followed to lend a hand. She felt utterly useless—her strength wasn't as great as Kushina's, her cooking wasn't as skilled as Mikoto's, and her timid personality made her doubt herself.
Noticing her unease, Shinki gently pinched her cheek and said, "Don't doubt yourself. Everyone has unique experiences, strengths, and personalities. You admire Kushina's strength and Mikoto's skills, but in terms of etiquette, can either of them compare to you?"
As a girl from the Hyuga clan's Main Family, Mehu had undergone rigorous training in manners and etiquette. Her poise was unmatched, thanks to the Hyuga clan's near-obsessive focus on such training.
Kushina pouted and shook her head. "I'll do anything else, but I'm not learning etiquette! That training sounds like torture."
Mikoto, busy cutting meat, froze for a moment at the thought of undergoing the Hyuga clan's grueling etiquette lessons. She, too, would lose her mind.
Seeing their reactions, Shinki burst into laughter. Kushina glared at him indignantly, while Mikoto shot him a rare resentful look. Mehu, on the other hand, smiled softly, her face glowing red but her heart filled with warmth.
Shinki didn't despise her for being less skilled; instead, he praised her.
Late at Night
As Shinki rested in a tent outside, his puppets, stationed throughout Konoha, detected suspicious activity. Members of the Sarutobi and Shimura clans were gathering secretly.
It appeared they were conducting a selection process.
Could it be that the Hokage was assigning new personnel to the Police Department? Or perhaps filling positions in the ANBU or the Medical Corps?
But the real purpose soon became evident—these ninjas weren't intended for the village. Shinki, observing through his puppets, deduced that the Third Hokage was planning something significant.
Shinki had embedded countless puppets across Konoha. Under normal circumstances, these puppets remained dormant, blending into their surroundings. But in times of unusual activity, they sprang to life, providing unparalleled surveillance.
This advanced monitoring system significantly reduced crime and espionage within Konoha. Troublemakers were often caught before they could act, and spies had no chance of escape once their locations were locked.
The gathered ninjas underwent further selection until only ten remained.
At midnight, a shadowy figure emerged—Shimura Danzo.
Shinki observed through his puppets, confirming his suspicions. The Third Hokage was indeed planning something, and Danzo's involvement made it clear that it wasn't going to be simple.
Shinki watched closely, determined to uncover their plans.
