Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Countdown
Kakuzu had gravely miscalculated. He assumed that Hidan's supposed immortality would provide ample opportunity to extract intelligence about Kirito's capabilities. But Hidan now lay lifeless, his body devoid of movement, and his usually defiant expression eerily absent.
"What kind of jutsu was that? Sealing? Genjutsu?" Kakuzu's thoughts raced. "Whatever it was, it bypassed Hidan's immortality. That arrogant fool… truly dead."
Kakuzu's fists clenched. His instincts warned him that Kirito's mysterious technique was beyond lethal. It was imperative to avoid being caught in its grasp.
From a distance, Shikamaru scrutinized the battlefield. Spotting Hidan's inert body, he muttered, "Could it really be over? That guy was supposed to be immortal…"
Asuma nodded solemnly. "It's not an illusion. Hidan's truly gone."
"Incredible," Izumo remarked in awe. "Only Kakuzu remains."
Kotetsu glanced toward the ongoing battle. "Should we join Kirito now? With just one opponent left, we could relieve some of the pressure."
Shikamaru shook his head. "No. Kirito would have called for us if he needed help. The way he took down Hidan proves he's more than capable of handling this. We might only get in the way.
"Our task is to stay alert and assist if the situation demands it."
Reluctantly, Izumo and Kotetsu stepped back, maintaining their vigilance while keeping their distance from the fight.
---
Kirito advanced toward Kakuzu, his steps deliberate and unhurried. Yet, each movement radiated an overwhelming intensity, causing the air itself to feel heavier. Every footfall echoed like a war drum, hammering against Kakuzu's nerves.
"Am I… afraid?" Kakuzu thought, the sensation foreign to someone who had once fought the First Hokage and survived.
"No!" he growled internally. "I've faced the greatest shinobi in history. I won't cower before some brat!"
Forming rapid hand seals, Kakuzu summoned his remaining masked beasts. The red and blue masks leapt to his sides, fusing back into his body. Black tendrils erupted from his shoulders and neck, creating a grotesque mane of writhing appendages. His body swelled, with the masks now embedded on either side of his head.
Above, the orange-masked creature gathered a massive charge of lightning within its maw, aiming directly at Kirito.
"Lightning Style: False Darkness!"
A spear of concentrated lightning tore through the air toward Kirito at incredible speed.
Unfazed, Kirito conjured his own lightning spear, its golden light crackling with raw power. He hurled it forward, the projectile cutting through Kakuzu's attack and striking the orange mask. The ensuing explosion obliterated the mask entirely.
"Three," Kirito murmured coldly, his tone resolute.
Kakuzu scowled. The orange mask had been intended as a diversion, but its destruction forced him to reevaluate his strategy.
Leaping into the air, Kakuzu extended black tendrils to maintain his elevation. From his cheeks, the red and blue masks unleashed a deadly combination of fire and wind.
"Fire-Wind Combination: Chaos Wave!"
The confluence of flames and gales transformed the battlefield into a raging inferno, consuming everything in its path. The roar of flames and the howling winds created an overwhelming cacophony.
Within the fiery storm, Kakuzu snarled, "I won't let you close the distance!"
Suddenly, a massive lava fist erupted through the flames, forcing Kakuzu to dodge at the last second.
"Lava Style?" Kakuzu exclaimed, bewildered. "How can a Konoha ninja wield Lava Style?"
Before he could regain composure, the lava fist expanded and detonated, sending molten fragments hurtling through the air. Despite activating his **Earth Spear** technique to harden his body, the intense heat scorched him, eliciting a pained cry.
The blue mask retaliated, summoning a powerful storm to scatter the fragments. But as the winds dissipated, Kirito emerged, a blur of motion. Closing the gap in an instant, he delivered a spinning roundhouse kick that sent Kakuzu hurtling to the ground, leaving a deep crater upon impact.
Within the pit, Kakuzu's black tendrils lashed out in desperation, only to be severed by Kirito's golden lightning spear. With precision, Kirito hurled another spear into the crater, triggering a devastating explosion.
The blast sent Kakuzu flying, his body battered and fractured. Before he could recover, Kirito was already upon him.
In a desperate counter, Kakuzu swung a hardened fist, but Kirito effortlessly deflected it, delivering a crushing blow that sent Kakuzu skidding across the battlefield.
As Kakuzu struggled to rise, he felt a sharp pain pierce his chest. Looking down, he saw Kirito standing before him, a golden lightning spear impaling him directly.
"Two," Kirito stated, his Byakugan glowing with an unyielding intensity as Kakuzu's lifeblood seeped away.
