Chapter 184: Ideals and Revenge
Ino remained silent for a moment, her eyes scanning Hinata with a hint of sadness. "He made his choice. We must honor his sacrifice by living, by protecting what he wanted to preserve."
"No," Hinata replied, her voice low but filled with threat. "I will honor his sacrifice by destroying those who betrayed him. Those who continue to live as if nothing happened."
Ino assumed a combat stance, her tantō gleaming under the dim light. "I won't let you do this. Come back to the village now, Hinata. Don't force me to stop you by force."
Hinata's eyes lit up, her Byakugan pulsating with an unusual intensity. "So that's what you want? Fine. But know that I have nothing left to lose. I'll start with you, Ino."
Hinata leaped forward, her movements swift and precise, each attack aimed at vital points. Ino barely dodged, using her Sharingan to anticipate the strikes, but Hinata seemed different, faster, and more aggressive than ever.
Ino made a hand seal, sending a wave of mental energy towards Hinata, but the latter activated a Celestial Rotation at the last second, deflecting the attack.
"You've become stronger," Ino admitted, breathless, as she adjusted her posture.
"I had no choice," Hinata replied coldly. "Weakness has no place in this world."
Ino tried another approach, throwing several chakra-imbued kunai at Hinata, but she parried them with impressive grace, closing in rapidly.
"Why are you still fighting for them?" Hinata asked, striking with a palm charged with chakra.
"Because I believe in what he believed in," Ino replied, blocking the attack with her tantō. "Even though we've all suffered, he wanted a world where we could live in peace. I refuse to betray that ideal."
Their blades clashed, sparks of chakra illuminating the forest. The battle became a whirlwind of rapid movements, each kunoichi utilizing all their skills to gain the upper hand.
As Ino seemed to gain the upper hand, a violent surge of chakra emanated from Hinata, pushing her back forcefully against a tree.
"You don't understand," Hinata said, tears streaming down her face despite her cold expression. "I'm not doing this for myself. I'm doing this for him. He deserves justice."
Ino, wounded but determined, stood up, holding her tantō firmly. "And him? Do you think he would want you to become like this? Do you think he would approve of what you're doing?"
Those words struck Hinata like a knife, but she refused to show it.
"He's not here to have an opinion," she replied, her voice breaking.
Ino lowered her weapon slightly, attempting one last approach. "Then stop this now. Come back to the village. If you want to honor his memory, do it by living according to his ideals, not by spreading hatred."
Hinata hesitated, her Byakugan still active, but a glimmer of humanity seemed to cross her gaze.
"It's too late for me," she murmured.
The battle in the dark clearing reached its climax. Ino's movements were nearly impossible to follow, her tanto glowing with a bright yellow chakra as she employed her Yellow Flash technique, moving at an incredible speed. Each strike of her blade was precise and deadly, targeting Hinata's vital points, who could barely dodge or deflect them with her Byakugan and exceptional taijutsu.
Hinata, on the other hand, advanced methodically, her palms coated with chakra ready to strike Ino's tenketsu. Every time she managed to get close, her blows were so powerful that they tore through the air and cracked the ground. One mistake from Ino could prove costly.
Ino suddenly used Body Flicker to appear behind Hinata, but the latter anticipated the move with her Byakugan and turned just in time to block the attack with her Celestial Rotation, creating a chakra barrier that sent Ino flying backward.
Ino wiped a drop of blood from her lip.
She threw her tanto into the air and then instantly teleported to its location, appearing right above Hinata and diving towards her with blinding speed. Hinata, not backing down, used an Eight Trigrams Palm Rotation, creating two blue chakra masses that collided head-on with Ino's attack.
The clash of their techniques created a shockwave that sent leaves flying and broke tree branches around them.
"You're fast," Hinata admitted, catching her breath. "But I'm stronger."
She struck the ground with immense force, creating a seismic wave that unbalanced Ino and prevented her from maintaining her speed.
"You're stubborn," Ino replied, retrieving her tanto gracefully.
Ino formed hand seals and used a Suiton: Whirlpool Water Wall technique, summoning a large wave of water that rushed towards Hinata. However, the latter sliced through the wave with a precise strike, her condensed chakra acting as an invisible blade.
Both kunoichi were wounded, cuts and bruises marking their bodies. Their breaths were ragged, but neither showed any sign of surrender. The battle was perfectly balanced, with both adversaries pushing their skills to the limit.
