Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Familiar Faces
Konoha, Year 16.
Ninja Academy.
The atmosphere in the classroom was lively, and the one who made it even livelier every second was a boy with wild white spiky hair and small red lines under his eyes.
"Alright, listen up," he declared, his voice loud enough to drown out at least half the room. "Last week, I came this close to catching this pervert thief."
The classroom grew quieter as curious ears perked up. "A thief?" a kid asked skeptically. "What did he steal?"
The white-haired boy wagged a finger dramatically. "Now what-where! This guy was sneaking around on top of the ladies' bathhouse. I saw him with my own eyes lurking around the secret peeping spot like some kind of rat!"
A few gasps rippled through the room, though the eyes of a blonde girl widened at his words. She turned around and gazed at him sharply. "What were you doing around the so-called secret peeping spot?"
A guilty look flashed in the boy's eyes at her words, but he quickly covered it up, straightening his neck to speak. "Oh, I just happened to pass by!
"Anyways, when I tried to catch the pervert, he—obviously scared by my skills—bolted away. I would've caught him if I hadn't slipped on a loose tile on the roof!"
The boys in the class all gave the white-haired kid admiring looks, though the girls wore expressions of disgust, clearly not buying his excuse of just "passing by."
"And just when I thought things couldn't get worse," said Shikaro in a tired tone as he propped up from the desk he was lying on, "with a loudmouth like him around, my plan to sleep through the academy is as good as gone."
Although Itsuki wanted to sympathize with Shikaro, his attention was drawn to a much more important matter. His eyes lingered on the white-haired kid, who had been bragging non-stop for a while, before shifting to the blonde-haired girl.
After a moment, his gaze left the girl as he scanned the room. Eventually, his eyes stopped on one individual sitting silently in the corner—a boy with long black hair, pale skin, and yellowish, snake-like eyes.
"The exact time period as the Sannin, huh," muttered Itsuki with a rare serious look on his face. He was already aware that the era he had traveled to was well before the time of canon, with even the Second Hokage still alive and the First Shinobi World War just beginning to take shape.
Still, he hadn't been entirely sure of the exact period—until now. Seeing the future Sannin, all close to his own age, he could finally use the foresight he had to its fullest. That meant lazing around while staying far away from any troublesome factors.
Aside from the Sannin, Itsuki also spotted some other familiar and yet unfamiliar faces: a kid with blue hair and another with white hair—Dan and Hiruko.
"Perfect! Stay away from these five and laze around as much as possible. That's the plan."
Deciding that inwardly, Itsuki rummaged through his pockets and pulled out two pairs of earplugs. He slid one pair across the desk to the annoyed Shikaro and plugged the other into his own ears, propping his head down onto the desk with a satisfied smirk.
"Maybe the academy isn't that bad after all" Thought Shikaro while giving Itsuki resting next to him a grateful look, picking the earplugs next moment and soon going into a deep sleep like his new friend.
The first day at the academy was mostly about learning the basics of being a shinobi, how every seal would guide chakra in the body, learning about the chakra pathways and some geography of the ninja world.
The first day didn't involve any practical teaching but was expected to begin a week or two later after everyone had grasped the basic theory.
Harumi along with few other nerdy students sat at the front row and wrote down everything that the chunin teacher explained, even though most of it her father had explained to her already.
"Sigh…"
But Harumi from time to time would gaze towards the backrow and let out a discontent sigh, her behavior soon attracting the attention of girls sitting next to her, the friends she had made today.
"You've been sneaking peeks at that boy for a while now Harumi, don't tell me you…
"It's understandable though… he looks so wild and attractive…"
Asked the little girls in an excited tone with slightly red faces, Itsuki who was too lazy to comb his hair given the tag of a wild and attracting boy because of that.
Harumi's face turned black at their words, barely able to hold back the feeling of vomit at their words. She can find a pig attractive but not her brother… the good for nothing guy with no ambition and dreams.
"Damn It!"
Harumi immediately wanted to refute their guesses by telling he's her brother but the thought of being tagged as the sister of such a sloppy guy, she held back and just cursed inwardly.
Ding Dong!
The first day at the academy passed eventually for the new students, both Itsuki and Shikaro being the last ones to walk out of the academy, due to the earplugs unable to hear the bell and almost locked at the academy if not for the cleaning lady waking them up.
Unlike the other students who left with tired faces, both of them had a radiant glow on their face, looking absolutely fresh.
"Well, the first day ended up being far better than I had expected, anyways see you tomorrow, partner- in- slack" Said Shikaro with a little smile plastered on his face, stretching his hand out for a shake.
"See you though don't forget the sacred ninja tool I gave you, can't risk hearing anything right?" Said Itsuki with a wide smile as he shook his hand back, hinting at the earplugs he had given him.
"Don't worry!" Shikaro grinned. "I'll keep them closer than my worries. Goodbye"
"Take Care"
And so the two walked away, one marching towards the core of Konoha and the other towards the margins of the village.
