Chapter 299: The Truth Behind the Tenseigan and Rinnegan!
Haneda walked up to Kakashi and placed a firm hand on his shoulder.
"Let's go. Let's check on Naruto and bring him home."
With that, the two teleported directly to the ninja academy, arriving just a little while before the school day ended.
After the commotion they caused last time by being spotted at the academy, Haneda and Kakashi chose to hide this time, settling atop a large tree that overlooked Class A's classroom.
From their vantage point, they could easily observe Naruto and Sasuke. Sasuke was seated by the window, with Naruto right next to him.
To Haneda's pleasant surprise, Naruto—usually the class slacker—was actually paying attention to the blackboard. He wasn't dozing off or daydreaming, as he often did in the past.
Haneda smiled and remarked, "Kakashi, look at that. Naruto's finally paying attention in class for once."
"Probably thanks to Sasuke," Kakashi replied, amused. "That kid's just like Obito when he was young. Once he saw someone striving to be better, he couldn't help but try to match them."
Kakashi reflected for a moment, then added, "After Obito awakened his Sharingan, he worked hard—probably because you and I inspired him. He only got even more determined after failing the chunin exams."
"Obito…" Haneda said softly, understanding what Kakashi meant.
Obito had sought his help with ninjutsu training only after experiencing the crushing realization that he couldn't protect his friends when it mattered most.
Haneda chuckled as he recalled how Obito had spent days boasting about his newly awakened two-tomoe Sharingan.
"People grow, Kakashi. Kids mimic what they see around them. Sasuke wants to surpass his older brother, so he works tirelessly.
"I've heard from Iruka and Shikaku that Sasuke trains with remarkable dedication. Naruto's probably just been swept up in his rhythm," Haneda concluded.
Kakashi smiled as he continued watching the classroom, where Sasuke and Naruto both appeared to be paying close attention.
Suddenly, two puffs of smoke erupted from the seats where Naruto and Sasuke sat, leaving nothing behind but faint trails.
Haneda and Kakashi's smiles froze.
Shadow Clone Technique!
Both Naruto and Sasuke disappeared at the same time, meaning the clones had been created by the same person.
Recalling how "Naruto" had been so unusually attentive in class, Haneda and Kakashi realized what had happened.
Naruto hadn't been Naruto at all—he had been one of Sasuke's shadow clones!
"NA-RU-TO!"
"SA-SU-KE!"
Iruka's enraged voice rang out from Class A, and the entire classroom erupted into chaos.
Haneda activated his Kagura Mind's Eye, expanding its range to cover the entirety of Konoha. Within moments, he located Naruto and Sasuke.
Seeing Kakashi's face darken with an ominous aura, Haneda quickly tried to pacify him.
"They're just kids, Kakashi. At least the shadow clone was paying attention in class… Doesn't this kind of remind you of us back in the day?" Haneda said with a sheepish grin.
"This is different, Haneda! Naruto doesn't even know how to use shadow clones properly!" Kakashi replied coldly.
"I'll teach him the Shadow Clone Technique later—or better yet, the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique. Problem solved!"
"Haneda! That's not how you're supposed to raise a child!"
"Kakashi! The current Konoha doesn't need kids to make the same sacrifices we did. Can't we let Naruto enjoy his childhood for a little longer?"
"???" Kakashi was momentarily stunned into silence by Haneda's argument.
Haneda continued, "It's not like the two of us can't afford to take care of one kid, Kakashi.
"Instead of pushing Naruto to work hard, shouldn't we shoulder the burden ourselves? That way, there won't be any heavy missions left for him to carry."
Kakashi stared at Haneda in disbelief, his mind torn between wanting to protest and acknowledging the strange logic in his words.
"You… You…!" Kakashi stammered, struggling to respond. Finally, with exasperation in his voice, he shouted, "You'll regret this, Haneda!"
"I'm the Hokage, Kakashi!" Haneda shot back, smirking.
As Kakashi turned to leave in frustration, Haneda quickly jogged after him and grabbed his arm.
"I'll bear everything, Kakashi—whether it's today's problems or the hardships of the future. I'll handle it all!
"Because I'm the Fifth Hokage.
"And Naruto is just a five-year-old boy."
Kakashi stopped in his tracks, falling silent for a moment before asking, "You're still moving forward with your Kekkei Genkai collection plan, aren't you?
"You want to become the next Sage of Six Paths and rewrite the order of the ninja world."
Kakashi's tone turned serious as he continued, "You once told me about the secrets of the ninja world—the story of the Sage of Six Paths' sons, Indra and Asura.
"The Uchiha clan descends from Indra, while the Uzumaki and Senju clans descend from Asura. Their chakra has been reincarnated over generations.
"The previous reincarnations were Uchiha Madara and the First Hokage. This time, it's Sasuke and Naruto.
"You said we shouldn't interfere too much in their lives—whether it's with their ninjutsu or their personal feelings.
"In the past, it seemed like you were counting on them to resolve the ninja world's troubles. But now, it seems like you're ready to shoulder everything yourself."
Kakashi paused, then asked pointedly, "So, what does the Hyuga clan represent?
"You've spent so much time poring over their historical records, even though you've never been interested in books.
"You're clearly searching for something.
"You said you've hit a wall with Yin-Yang Release—does this have something to do with that?"
Kakashi's sharp deduction took Haneda by surprise. He hadn't expected Kakashi to piece together so much from just a few conversations.
But Kakashi was, after all, a genius known for his keen analytical mind.
Haneda finally responded, "I'll handle it. I'm the only one who can."
Kakashi pressed further, "Then why not let me help? I'm your ANBU commander—I should be protecting you!"
"Because I don't want to lose you. It's as simple as that."
The shadow of the tree they stood beneath grew longer, enveloping the two of them. The school bell rang, marking the end of the day.
Time passed silently between them.
Haneda eventually broke the silence.
"The Hyuga clan is connected to the Sage of Six Paths' brother, Otsutsuki Hamura.
"Much like how the Uzumaki and Senju clans have distant relatives, the Hyuga clan also has distant kin—but they're not on this planet. They're on the moon: the Otsutsuki clan.
"On the moon, there exists an artifact related to the Byakugan, known as the Tenseigan. That's what I'm after."
"The Tenseigan holds the power of the Sage of Six Paths—it makes Yin-Yang Release look trivial in comparison.
"My right eye's Mangekyo Sharingan ability is called Shinra Bansho, meaning 'to encompass all things.' With it, I can forcibly absorb such power.
"But the fusion process will take time, and I can't afford to wait that long. That's why I've decided to act now."
Haneda's gaze turned resolute as he continued, "The Tenseigan is also tied to the Sage of Six Paths' Rinnegan.
"The Rinnegan is critical to my future plans.
"I've already met the prerequisites: the Uchiha's Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and the Senju's Sage Body.
"Yet even with those, awakening the Rinnegan would take years—time I don't have.
"Obtaining the Tenseigan will accelerate the process. It may also hold the key to unlocking a way to remove the Hyuga clan's cursed seal."
"Though the Hyuga don't know how to lift the curse themselves, I'm the Hokage. I'll abolish their inhumane traditions no matter what it takes."
