Chapter 362: "Hokage-sama Is Truly Incredible!"
Konan smiled and said, "Helping your classmates is a great quality. Just don't let it happen again."
"Just don't let it happen again," Haneda echoed, holding back a laugh.
He had only been teasing Naruto earlier.
There was something amusing about messing with kids, and he suddenly understood why his parents in his previous life used to tease him on purpose.
Naruto straightened his back and promised, "I definitely won't do it again next time, Haneda-Uncle… Hokage-sama!"
Hearing the final "Hokage-sama," Haneda couldn't hold back entirely, and a slight smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
Naruto, noticing this, widened his eyes in surprise, then glared at him in frustration.
Just as Naruto opened his mouth to say something, Haneda was already walking away with Pain and the others, leaving only Tobi behind to pull a goofy face at Naruto.
"Goodbye~ We'll meet again," Tobi teased.
"Damn it!" Naruto stomped his foot in frustration, pouting angrily.
It was bad enough that Haneda-Uncle teased him, but now even some masked lackey was picking on him!
At that moment, Sasuke's mocking voice chimed in.
"Na-ru-to, I've surpassed you by another book today. If you don't start working harder, I'll leave you in the dust."
"Hmph, don't think you're safe just because you've got a 'backup battery.' I still have Nii-san and Shisui-nii!"
Naruto turned to see Sasuke's smug expression and the book in his hand.
"Damn it! Even Sasuke is picking on me!"
...
Haneda led Pain and the others around the library for a while longer. When they returned to the second floor, Naruto and his friends were gone.
They had probably decided to go back to class. Staying in the library would've been too embarrassing.
As they exited the library, Pain gave Haneda a meaningful look, to which Haneda responded with a small smile but said nothing.
It was Konan who belatedly realized that Haneda's tour wasn't just about showing them the library.
The group remained silent, having already reached a deeper understanding and cooperation. Saying anything more might risk tipping off Tobi—Obito—to their plans.
Next, Haneda led the group to visit the school building.
The building hadn't changed much from a decade ago, though three additional floors had been added.
These were built during a period of expanded enrollment, a solution chosen instead of establishing a new academy.
Haneda himself wasn't particularly interested in classroom activities. Like Obito, he had been a notorious underachiever in school.
He either daydreamed in class or sent a shadow clone to serve time on his behalf.
His visit to the school building was purely out of duty, simply to provide an introduction.
However, revisiting the place stirred some nostalgia for both him and Obito.
As they reached their old classroom, Haneda, Obito, and Kakashi all stopped instinctively.
Standing by the window, Haneda pointed to a seat in the back row by the window and smiled.
"When I first entered this classroom, I immediately chose that seat."
Pain asked curiously, "What's special about it?"
Obito and Kakashi also looked over.
Obito vaguely remembered Haneda mentioning it once, but that was over ten years ago, and he'd long since forgotten the details.
As for Kakashi, he hadn't been close to Haneda during their early academy days and had never heard about it.
Haneda chuckled and said, "The back row by the window is the king's domain. My current achievements prove the wisdom of the ancients!"
"Tch…"
Obito finally remembered and let out a dismissive snort.
Back then, he had thought Haneda was some kind of prodigy, but it turned out he was just another underachiever, no different from himself.
All that talk about the back row by the window being the "king's domain"…
Suddenly, Obito sneezed, scratching his head with an awkward laugh.
"Uh, sorry about that. Must be someone badmouthing me. My apologies!"
Kakashi, ever patient with Obito, ignored the comment and smiled.
"I see. No wonder…"
He turned to Haneda and added, "That explains it. Haneda, for you to reach your current level, it's not just personal effort—it's your unparalleled talent and incredible intellect."
Haneda thought of his subtle yet ever-present Favorability System and grinned confidently.
"See? Kakashi gets it."
He couldn't exactly explain the system, but in his mind, it wasn't "cheating"—it was a natural-born advantage!
Talent wasn't unfair—it was simply the way things were.
Haneda accepted Kakashi's compliment with grace, noting Obito's skeptical expression.
He continued, "I remember sitting next to a very good friend—let's call him a close companion."
"He sat beside me and often fell asleep in class, completely unlike me!"
"I was much more diligent than him. I never once slept during class!"
"He was always late to class, even missing the opening ceremony and the graduation ceremony. Totally unlike me!"
"I was much more punctual than him. I never once showed up late!"
"Not only did he sleep and arrive late, but he wasn't very handsome, wasn't popular, and didn't even have the guts to confess his feelings. Completely unlike me!"
"I was much more attractive, much more popular. The girls at school practically chased after me!"
"And that's a quality only one other person inherited—Kakashi. Isn't that right, Kakashi?"
Kakashi's lips twitched, and he chose to remain silent.
"Paying attention in class?" Kakashi thought to himself. "As if! If you weren't daydreaming, you were sending shadow clones. How's that diligent?"
"And punctuality? That's rich coming from the guy who once said, 'I got lost on the path of life.' Who was always late along with Obito?"
Still, Kakashi admitted to himself that Haneda wasn't entirely wrong. Compared to Obito, Haneda had always been a bit more serious in his own way…
Reluctantly, Kakashi turned his attention to Obito, wondering how he would respond.
Unsurprisingly, Obito snorted again, his expression dripping with sarcasm.
"Wow, Hokage-sama! Truly impressive! No wonder you became the greatest ninja!"
"Always paying attention in class—at least your eyes were open."
"Never late—at least you showed up just on time."
"Admired by so many girls—at least there were some admirers."
"Wow! Hokage-sama is truly incredible!"
Pain and Konan, standing nearby, thought Tobi's exaggerated praise was genuine, smiling along.
Meanwhile, Kakashi struggled to hold back laughter, feeling secondhand embarrassment for Haneda.
The final jab about having no girlfriends was especially cutting, and Kakashi couldn't help but glance at Haneda to see how he'd respond.
To his surprise, Haneda shamelessly accepted the praise, smiling as he replied, "Humble, humble."
"Such things are not worth discussing with outsiders!"
"Although my friend wasn't much—completely unlike me—he did have some good qualities."
"Like what?" Obito asked, his voice devoid of emotion as he adjusted his mask.
