Chapter 4: Talking To The Sword King, Pleasuring a Lord's Wife?
"Elena talked about that thing. I remember it making me curious."
"What thing?" Mai asked.
She was walking by Tristan's side, turning towards him whenever he talked while he stared ahead continually, something that she found slightly annoying.
The height difference annoyed her as well.
She was 168 centimeters tall, which made her pretty tall from where she was from. Because he was about 185 centimeters tall, she not only had to turn towards him, but also gaze slightly upwards.
Mai couldn't help but sigh internally.
She was the Sword King, in other words, she was supposed to be the strongest of the bunch, and the one that would do the most work. Feeling against someone whose Class was... Mai coughed.
"Could you remind me what your Class is?"
"Oh, the Spirit thing. That's what it was. Elena talked about it, right?"
"The High Priestess? Yes, she did."
"How does that work? Is it a Spirit that only you can see or...?
"You're so boring, Tristan." The Spirit sighed. "Just tell her that you're the NTR King. You're gonna have to accept that, sooner or later."
"Hm..." Mai scratched her forehead as she grimaced. "I'm actually quite worried about that. I hope it's something that only comes out in battle. Having something constantly whispering in your ear must be annoying."
"Yes, I bet it would be." Tristan chuckled.
"Well, aren't you slick." The Spirit's voice was enough to guess that it was rolling its eyes at him.
"I haven't awakened it yet though. According to the High Priestess, the Spirit of the Sword King will awaken in a situation that involves a sword somehow." Mai glanced at her side, at the scabbard hanging from her waist. "Guess that's why I got a weapon along with the clothes."
"A situation that has to do with the sword... So having to protect someone, or yourself?"
"Maybe. Or having to kill someone, I guess." Mai's tone was cool and relaxed despite talking about killing someone.
Tristan turned towards her a bit as they walked.
Her dark hair was long and luscious, flying backward with each step taken by Mai.
She was thin, and deathly pale.
What struck him most was the length of her eyelashes and their thick-
He moved his gaze, going back to staring ahead. Staring for too long would be rude, and he had no doubt that she had noticed him staring.
"Have you checked your Stats?" Mai asked. "It's a pretty bizarre experience, using this System thing."
"I'm sure it's going to get a whole lot more bizarre for you once the Spirit enters the picture."
"Ha!" Mai chuckled, holding a hand to her mouth, hiding her laugh. "Please, don't remind me."
They walked silently for a couple of seconds.
"So, did you check your Stats?"
"Nope." Tristan answered honestly. "Elena told us that Knights have an average of 10 for each Stat at the start. That's enough for me."
"So not only did you not check them, but you don't plan to?"
"Why the interest? I might check them once I'm bored."
"Aren't you bored now?" Mai asked with a slight frown.
"How could I be? I'm enjoying the presence of the Sword King AND I'm in an Emperor's castle IN a whole different world. It would be tough to find something LESS boring than that."
"You have a point, I suppose."
Minutes later, the two arrived at the staircase that had led each one of them individually down to the Servants' quarters.
"I'm going up." Tristan said. "Coming with?"
"No, I think I would rather stay here."
"The Nobles are annoying, aren't they?" Tristan smiled.
"Very curious, I would say." Mai nodded.
"Alright well, see you later." Tristan turned to the staircase. "We're meeting in three hours, right?"
"That's right."
"Hopefully we'll be paired together." He chuckled as he started walking up the stairs.
"Yeah..." Mai whispered as she scratched her cheek. "That wouldn't be bad actually."
Nakamura Mai, the Sword King, remained standing at the staircase until Tristan wasn't visible anymore.
'So, what do you think?' Mai thought to herself.
"Something's fishy. It smells. I can smell it." A three-tailed cat answered as it entered Mai's field of vision from behind her. "You distinctly remember him saying that he was a Knight?"
"I do. He was the last remaining person to step to the Altar."
The Sword King's Spirit turned away from the staircase, its slit pupils staring at Mai directly.
"I have a good idea to judge another's strength. There's no way he is as weak as the rest of the Knight Otherworlders.
"So you think he's lying about his Class?" Mai asked with a frown.
"Not out loud, Miss Mai."
The Sword King slowly turned out and let out a sigh after making sure that she was alone.
'Right... But why would he lie about his Class?'
"That's both a good and bad question."
'I hope he doesn't cause any trouble.'
"As the Sword King, it is your duty to make sure he doesn't."
'And if I refuse that duty?'
"You cannot truly refuse it. You are dutiful. It is in your genes. If you weren't dutiful, strong, kind, compassionate, and if you didn't have a strong sense of justice, you wouldn't have awakened the Sword King Class, and I wouldn't be here."
'I see.' Mai sighed.
"I do have a question however, Miss Mai."
'What is it?'
"What you told him is true. To awaken the Spirit, a particular experience with the Sword is necessary. However, you haven't had to use the sword in this world just yet."
'You appeared to me the moment that I placed my hand on the Altar.'
"Which is what makes it all the more peculiar."
Mai turned around at once, her hair flying in the air.
"I've trained all my life with the Sword. Kendo, do you know about it?"
"Not out loud, Miss Mai. But yes, I do. All things Sword-related are related to me after all."
"Well, that must be it then."
"Are you certain?" The Sword King's Spirit asked.
Since Mai had ignored the warning not to speak out loud and continued doing so, the Spirit judged it right to go along with it.
"Isn't there something else?"
"Yes, I suppose there is." Mai answered as her eyes narrowed.
She took a deep breath in and let out a sigh.
It didn't help with the iron ball that had formed in her stomach.
'I've killed someone.' Mai's face was completely emotionless. 'I killed them with a sword.'
The Sword King's Spirit remained silent for a moment.
"They must have deserved it. Otherwise, I wouldn't be standing by your side."

Meanwhile,
"I've always wanted to meet an Otherworlder." The Lady whispered in Tristan's ear.
"Is that so? Well, my Lady..." He smiled charmingly. "Here I am."
She blushed for a moment as Tristan too her right hand and gently deposited a kiss.
"It's my pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lady Adrienne."
She stared at him for a moment. The Lady looked frozen, but her mind was running faster than ever.
"My husband won't return for a couple of hours." Lady Adrienne whispered innocently as she looked away. "Would you be kind enough to keep me company for a bit?"
She had whispered innocently, but her blushing and smile betrayed her intent. It was a slight smile. But it was that kind of smile.
"Of course, my Lady..."
Tristan smiled.
