Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Into His Arms
Jadeite Lane was an old, picturesque town in the outskirts of Lumina. It was a place filled with memories of fun, food, and family time—amusement parks, restaurants, food stalls, all of which were once enjoyed with her father. These memories were invaluable to Vivian.
But now that Jadeite Lane had been sold and passed through several hands, those precious memories would soon vanish into thin air.
"Don't speak so harshly," Gloria said lightly. "Eve and Ethan need money for their wedding. Jadeite Lane is old and outdated. Selling it to AW.Inc. will allow them to build new buildings and resell them, which will not only help AW.Inc. but also invigorate the businesses of both the Davis and Smith families. It's a win-win."
Gloria was a different person now, almost flippant as she poured Vincent a glass of milk after speaking.
Vivian glanced at the lavish breakfast spread before her, her family, who seemed so happy, only making her think of the night her father had tragically died. The anger within her flared up, and she could barely contain it.
With an instinctive motion, her arms swept across the table, sending bowls and cups crashing to the floor, splashing soup and breakfast across everyone at the table.
Evelyn, who had been sitting closest, cried out in pain as the hot soup splashed all over her, "Vivian, what's your problem this morning?!"
Evelyn was dressed in a high-end European designer skirt, a limited edition, valued at a six-figure price. She had planned to show off in the social circles of the rich after breakfast, but now, her outfit was ruined by the soup.
Evelyn had already felt humiliated the day before at Rosewood Hotel, and now she was fuming. Vivian had come to her doorstep, and she wouldn't let this chance slip by without teaching her a lesson.
As everyone scrambled to clean themselves, Vivian quickly picked up a shard of glass from the floor, holding it tightly in her hand, her eyes burning with anger as she glared at Vivian.
Amid the chaos, no one noticed Evelyn slowly inching closer to Vivian.
"Vivian!" This time, Evelyn didn't speak in her usual high-pitched, fake sweet tone. Instead, she shouted with fury.
Vivian could feel the chilling anger in her voice as the wind seemed to rush toward her. Evelyn lunged at her, a shard of glass gleaming coldly in her hand, aimed directly at Vivian!
The attack came so suddenly, and before Vivian could react, the two were too close. She barely had time to defend herself when she was suddenly pulled back by someone, her back crashing into their chest. The heartbeat she felt against her back was rapid and strong.
Before she could even turn around, a familiar scent of pine and frost filled her nostrils, and her body shivered in recognition. She knew who it was.
In the next moment, Evelyn's hand holding the shard was firmly gripped, and there was a loud cracking sound as her bones snapped.
Evelyn screamed in pain, her face twisting in agony as the glass dropped from her hand, leaving her unable to grasp it anymore.
Her earlier smug expression instantly evaporated, replaced by sheer shock and fear. Her face went pale as she stumbled back in surprise, either from the pain or the fright.
Daniel, however, didn't even spare Evelyn a second glance. With a swift motion, he shoved her away, sending her toppling onto the ground.
The sudden action threw Evelyn off balance, and she collapsed, sitting on the floor amidst the broken glass shards. Her exposed legs were instantly scratched by the glass, and her delicate skin was torn apart.
Blood mixed with spilled soup and milk, slowly spreading across the floor.
"Ah! My leg! It hurts!" Evelyn screamed, her voice filled with anguish.
"Eve, Eve!" Gloria immediately shrieked, rushing to her daughter's side. "Call an ambulance! Hurry!"
The scene was chaotic, with people frantically trying to clean up the mess.
Vivian, now facing Daniel, was pulled toward him. He carefully examined her from head to toe, his voice softer now. "Didn't you know how to avoid being hit?"
Vivian didn't answer, too angry to speak.
Her face was flushed, but she was otherwise fine. Daniel breathed a sigh of relief. "What were you doing here alone?" he asked.
His question only fueled her anger further, and her voice broke, "They sold Jadeite Lane! That was my father's place!"
She didn't have the money to keep it, and she couldn't protect the last memory she had of her father. All she could do was vent her frustration in this powerless, angry way—mocked and ridiculed by others.
Her throat tightened, and tears threatened to spill from her eyes, but she held her head high, refusing to let them fall.
"Whoever sold it, I'll make them pay!"
She was alone, fighting with everything she had, unwilling to cry in front of those who had no heart.
The storm in Daniel's eyes roared like a tidal wave. He lowered his gaze, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her tightly into his chest. He let her tears fall freely without worry, his voice low and soothing in a tone only she could hear, "Don't worry, I'm here."
Evelyn had been humiliated in her own home, but Vincent stayed silent, and Gloria wasn't about to let things slide.
She frowned. "Dan, your return makes both your father and I happy, but you can't just jump to conclusions and push Eve like that."
Her voice was sharp, and she cast suspicious glances at both Daniel and Vivian, unsure of when things between them had gotten so... close.
With Gloria backing her, Evelyn grew bolder, her tears still flowing as she pointed fingers at Vivian. "She's the one who spilled the breakfast. Dad and Mom saw everything."
As Evelyn continued to cry, Daniel felt a twinge of discomfort. When Vivian cried, he couldn't bear it, but Evelyn's tears only made his head ache.
"The house has security cameras. You know what you were trying to do," Daniel said, his tone cold.
At his reminder, Evelyn instinctively looked up. Above them, the security cameras blinked with red lights, confirming that everything that had just happened had been recorded.
Gloria's face darkened, and she bit back the words she was about to say. Realizing the situation, Evelyn's loud crying started to subside.
This time, it was clear who was in the wrong. Despite all their efforts to turn things around, the truth had been captured on tape. If this made a scene, not only would they lose face, but they would also lose all advantage.
Gloria gave Vincent a look.
The house was in chaos this morning, but Vincent, begrudgingly, stepped in as the mediator.
"Dan, you could've let us know you were coming back. I could've had Uncle Chen pick you up. You missed Evelyn's engagement yesterday, and you haven't met your brother-in-law yet, have you?"
