One Piece: Failure’s Road to the Pirate King

Chapter 17: I'm a Pirate Too

"The town... what happened?"

The faces of the civilians turned deathly pale.

The dilapidated ship entered the harbor without any obstruction. Some civilians were so anxious that they jumped directly into the water and swam towards the town.

"Sage, are we still robbing?" Lily looked at Sag.

The town was completely destroyed. What was there left to rob? They came to rob, not to scavenge.

Sage's face was also incredibly gloomy.

What the hell! He just wanted to rob a town, why was he so unlucky? "Get down!"

Sage gritted his teeth, "A thief never goes empty-handed! Isn't half the town still there? Let's see what we can grab!"

After saying that, he glanced at the almost unrecognizable buildings and added, "At least grab some supplies!"

"Yes! Captain Sage!"

Akin took the lead, leaping from the ship's edge, leading a dozen pirates onto the dock. The others remained on the ship to prevent attacks.

It was rare for all pirates to participate in a robbery.

Sage didn't have a base; if he did, he could let the pirates act freely.

He also took Lily off the ship and approached the town from the dock.

A huge gap had been plowed through the town's main street. The buildings on both sides showed signs of cannon fire, but deeper inside, the buildings looked like they had been hit by some giant object, showing large dents.

"No, it's gone!"

As soon as they reached the town square, they heard cries from ahead, and then saw a crowd gathered in the center of the square.

Besides the civilians from the ship, many more people were gathered there, all dusty and disheveled.

However, Sage didn't find any corpses on the ground; the people in the town should all be alive.

"What's gone?" Sag subconsciously asked.

A civilian from the ship turned around and cried, "Our sun sails have been stolen!"

"Sun sails?" Sag looked at Akin with a puzzled expression.

"It seems to be Kampas's most famous product. I've only heard of it," Akin replied.

"Those are the best sails!"

An old man with a cane among the civilians said, "They're our treasure!"

"Who are you?" Sag looked over.

"I'm the mayor of Kampas Town. I heard about it, thank you for saving the people of our town."

The mayor nodded to him and said, "We're a large town that produces sails, possessing the best sails in the entire East Blue. Besides the finely crafted sails, every twenty years, we create a batch of the strongest sails, gathering all the sailmakers in the East Blue, using the best craftsmanship and materials to make the strongest sails!"

Every twenty years in Kampas Town, due to the island's characteristics or climate, they would harvest a batch of extremely fine cultivated products. At this time, all the sailmakers in the East Blue would come here to jointly create a batch of the strongest sails.

The number of sails was very scarce, with only enough for one ship per batch. Each successful creation would be displayed in the town for admiration.

"This kind of sail won't be damaged even by cannon fire, and won't be torn by the strongest winds. It has excellent toughness and elasticity, and the most suitable wind-catching ability. Even flames can't easily burn it. Because it's made during the most intense sunlight, we call it... the sun sail!"

When the mayor said this, he was filled with immense pride, but soon his spirit deflated, "Now it's gone..."

Sage raised an eyebrow, "Pirates did this?"

"It was pirates."

The mayor angrily said, "Two days ago, a pirate ship came, incredibly powerful. They easily defeated our guards, even the warships were no match! They came here to cause destruction, and a particularly tall figure in a black robe took our sun sails!"

He slammed his cane on the ground and shouted, "That's the best product we make every twenty years! Those pirates wouldn't even know how to use them!"

Is that what matters...? "Those are truly despicable pirates!"

A civilian on the ship gritted his teeth, then realized, "Captain, didn't you say..."

"So, this is robbery?"

Sag clicked his tongue, "This is clearly sabotage! It's outrageous!"

"Captain..." The civilians looked at him with gratitude.

Sag angrily said, "If you destroy this place, how can I come back again? It'll take them a lot of time to rebuild, and I'll have fewer opportunities to rob next time. It won't be sustainable!"

Lily: "..."

You're focusing on the wrong thing... She asked the mayor, "How much are your sun sails worth?"

Sag gave Lily an approving look.

She hit the core issue right away.

The mayor shook his head, "It's not a matter of value. How can such sails be measured by money? Sails are made to set sail, and only the best ships are worthy of them. We wouldn't sell them otherwise!"

"So, the price of the last batch...?" Sage asked.

"I don't know, they were stolen twenty years ago too."

So, every time they're made, they get stolen!

"What a pity, if this batch of sails were sold, they would be worth a lot of money." Sag sighed.

The mayor nodded in agreement, then said, "Captain, if you're here to buy something, then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. You've seen the state of the town; we have nothing left."

Ordinary sails would be placed in the market after being made, and the market was near the dock. After the pirates attacked, they burned all the remaining sails, so there were no sails to sell now.

"I'm not here to buy anything."

"Then you are...?"

Sage smiled slightly and drew his flintlock pistol.

Bang! With the gunshot, the other pirates uniformly revealed their ferocious expressions.

"I'm a pirate too!" Sag said seriously.

Although the dozen pirates were few in number, they were more than enough to deal with the civilians who had no defenses left.

"Pirates!!"

The civilians in the square finally reacted, looking at the pirates in terror.

"Pirates again! I knew it, every time the sun sails appear, pirates will come."

The mayor sighed, then raised his head, "But this is our pride, even if it's going to be stolen by pirates, we will still make them!"

"Mayor!!" The civilians looked at him with emotion.

"That's none of my business, old man. Just hand over some supplies, I won't rob anything else. You're so miserable, I guess there's nothing much left to rob."

With the town in this state, Sage naturally had no interest. He wanted to rob prosperous places, not destroyed towns.

But coming all this way without taking anything wouldn't make sense.

What the other pirates could grab, he couldn't? Nothing? They must have water! Spices! Food! No matter what, he had to get something, otherwise he couldn't continue sailing.
