Chapter 179: Chapter 179 I am sad so sad so so sad
Kai casually blocked the incoming attack and slowly raised his head. Two figures in Marine uniforms were approaching using Moonwalk. They landed gracefully beside Magellan.
Kai narrowed his eyes slightly and said, "Momousagi? Chaton?"
"That's right, it's us," Chaton replied, his tone firm.
Momousagi glanced at the prisoners behind Kai, then at Kai himself. After a moment of silence, she said, "Demon King Kai, it seems all of this is your doing. Vice Admiral Garp was right—you're an extremely dangerous individual."
Kai frowned. What did she mean by "dangerous"? He'd always been a law-abiding citizen—well, as much as a pirate could be. Sure, he'd sent a few people to their graves, but only when they'd crossed him. And why was he here in the first place? Didn't the Marines and the World Government have any idea what they'd done to provoke him?
Kai shook his head. Arguing with Momousagi was pointless. He couldn't change years of prejudice with a few words. Besides, he never bothered reasoning with someone who couldn't see their own feet when they looked down. It was a waste of time.
"Why did Marine send you two? Do you think the guys behind me aren't enough of a threat?" Kai asked calmly.
All the pirates: ???
"The headquarters is busy with the execution. They can't spare any more manpower, and..." Momousagi paused, then added confidently, "I think the two of us are enough."
Kai raised an eyebrow. Momousagi was part of Marine, and Garp had surely briefed her about his strength. Why was she so confident? Unless...
A thought crossed Kai's mind, and his expression darkened. Were they planning to stall him while reinforcements arrived? Or was this another trap?
But what happened next left Kai stunned.
The two Marines quickly grabbed Magellan, one on each side, and launched into the air using Moonwalk. Their voices echoed behind them as they fled.
"The two of us were enough to get Magellan out of here!!!"
(⊙o⊙)...
Everyone behind Kai wore the same expression—utter disbelief. They'd expected a fierce battle, maybe even a heroic last stand. But this? This was... unexpected.
It was almost comical.
Kai couldn't help but chuckle. These two were clearly Marines of the new era—pragmatic and survival-oriented. They understood the old saying: "A wise man knows when to retreat."
He could've easily caught up to them, but there was no point. Magellan was severely injured and no longer a threat. The biggest obstacle was gone, and the rest was easy.
It didn't take long for Kai and the others to break out of Impel Down, marking the largest prison break in its history. Not only had most of the Level 6 prisoners escaped, but nearly everyone from the upper levels had fled as well. The prison was now emptier than it had ever been.
"Hahahaha... screw Impel Down! I'm finally free!" one prisoner shouted, his voice filled with exhilaration.
His excitement was contagious, and soon, the other pirates joined in, cheering and celebrating their freedom.
Compared to the prisoners, Luffy and his crew were more subdued. They'd only been locked up for a few days, so their escape felt more like a brief inconvenience than a life-changing event. Still, they couldn't help but feel a sense of triumph.
One thing, however, was eerily similar to the original timeline: Buggy. Despite the differences in how the breakout unfolded, Buggy had managed to rally a large group of prisoners. His charisma and showmanship had earned him a loyal following, and now they chanted his name like he was some kind of savior.
"Captain Buggy is invincible! Long live Captain Buggy!"
Kai smirked. "Buggy the Genius Jester? Looks like the Four Emperors vibe is coming early."
He walked to the shore and, with a thought, summoned a ship from his inventory. The Ark Maxim, Enel's former vessel, materialized in the water.
Kai turned to the group. "Get on the ship. We're heading to Marineford to make some noise."
He was mainly addressing Luffy's crew and the Level 6 prisoners he'd freed. The others weren't his concern.
"Nami," Kai called out. "Take the helm. Use your Devil Fruit powers to control the ship. This is the vessel Enel used to reach the White White Sea."
"Got it," Nami replied, nodding.
As everyone boarded the ship, Kai noticed Usopp standing still, staring at the vessel with a distant look in his eyes.
"Usopp, what's wrong?" Kai asked.
Usopp remained silent for a long time before finally speaking. "Kai... the Going Merry... she's gone."
"!!!"
"What do you mean?" Kai's voice was tense.
"While we were fighting the Marines... the Merry was sunk," Usopp said, his voice cracking.
Kai stood in silence, his heart heavy. He didn't understand. They'd taken such good care of the Merry. How could this have happened?
After a long pause, Kai placed a hand on Usopp's shoulder. "What's done is done. I know how much the Merry meant to you. I understand how you feel."
"But since it was those Marine bastards who did it, let's make them pay. Let's make them feel the same pain."
Usopp's eyes hardened. "You're right. We'll make them regret it."
"Let's go, Kai. Let's crush them!" Usopp shouted, running toward the Ark Maxim.
Kai watched him go, a small smile forming on his lips. Then his expression turned serious.
"Marine, World Government... you're going to regret everything you've done."
