One Piece : Pirate King Sage

Chapter 12: New Reinforcement

"It's fine, we still have two more days. If we're lucky, we might catch even rarer fish. Besides, pirates are the freest people on the sea. We eat when we want to eat, sleep when we want to sleep. That's what being a pirate is about. If we start following the Chef Alliance's rules and oppress ourselves just to please them, then what's the point?" Kado said nonchalantly.

"Well said. We came to this sea in search of freedom and dreams, so how could we let the temptation of the Chef Alliance make us do their bidding?" Fily grinned upon hearing this. "In that case, brother, I'll gladly take advantage of your generosity and taste this rare delicacy."

Fite, hearing Kado's words, was a bit confused but still steered the Kado Ship toward him to meet up.

"Hey, what's going on with you? Did you lose the fight and surrender?" Fite jumped aboard the Black Bone pirate ship and asked, puzzled.

"Who says I lost? Do I look like someone who loses? You don't believe in your captain, huh? You know my strength better than anyone," Kado explained loudly, before changing the subject. "What about that white-bearded shark? Hurry up and take me to see it! I'm dying to check out that fish everyone's jealous of."

Fite and Kado arrived on the deck of the Kado Ship, where a massive shark lay across the floor. It was four meters long, as thick as a water barrel, and most striking of all were the shark's sharp teeth, which gleamed brightly in rows—each one over a foot long, resembling a line of upright daggers.

"Wow, this is so fierce! This guy looks even more vicious than a great white shark. How did you catch it?" Kado's eyes sparkled as he stared at the silver-white shark before him. He couldn't help but recall the movie Jaws he had watched in his past life. In that film, the ferocious great white shark left a deep impression on him. Now, standing in front of such a fierce sea beast, he couldn't help but marvel.

"It's just a small fish," Fite said, giving Kado a dismissive glance. "If you saw a king-class beast, you'd probably be scared out of your wits."

"Tch, I've seen a king-class beast before," Kado retorted. "The thing is, they're just too big. They're not as visually striking as this slightly smaller shark."

Kado had drifted on the seas for three years and had indeed encountered a king-class beast once. However, compared to the king-class, the sight of such a huge creature towering over him made Kado feel a bit insignificant. Looking up at it, all he saw was a giant mass of flesh—without the sharp teeth and bloody scenes associated with these predators. Moreover, with his own formidable strength, he didn't feel the king-class beasts were anything to fear. But this great white shark... well, it was something he'd always considered a ferocious beast from his past life. Even though he knew he had nothing to fear, he couldn't help but feel a sense of awe upon seeing it up close.

"Is the meat of this thing really that good? It doesn't look all that impressive," Kado said as he circled the great white shark, unable to hold back his curiosity.

"Who knows? But they say the best parts of the great white shark are its fins and spine meat. The rest of the flesh is too tough, not great for the taste," Fite explained.

"Oh, really? Can you cook this fish?" Kado asked, still curious.

"Of course not," Fite replied. "Besides, aren't you the ship's part-time cook? Why does it suddenly become my problem?"

"Oh, but I don't know how to cook shark meat," Kado said, feeling a bit defeated.

"Well then, what should we do? How about we just don't eat it and save it to trade for a Devil Fruit the day after tomorrow?"

Gurgle...

Kado's stomach growled, and he said, "But I'm really hungry... After fighting all day, I feel like my whole body is like a sponge, I can barely lift myself."

"Then, why not eat it raw? Sashimi is the freshest," Fite said, his eyes lighting up. It seemed this guy really loved sashimi.

"Ugh," Kado grimaced and made a vomiting gesture. "Don't ever mention 'sashimi' in front of me again."

"No way, we're having sashimi!"

"Get lost, I'm the captain, you listen to me!"

In the end, the argument between the two only ended when the crew of the Blackbone Pirates offered to help cook the shark.

The shark weighed over a ton, but Kado still felt like it wouldn't be enough. At his suggestion, the Blackbone Pirates added some other fish they had caught that day to the menu. While these fish weren't as valuable as the Great White Shark, they were still considered rare and valuable species in other circumstances. The chefs on the Blackbone ship, seeing such a collection of rare delicacies, fainted on the spot. If they hadn't been thrown into the sea and left to recover for a long while, they probably still wouldn't believe that one day they'd have the chance to cook these ingredients that every chef dreams of.

On the Blackbone Pirates' large ship, a grand feast was being held, with many pirates gathered to celebrate. Those who had seen Kado and their captain compete surrounded Kado, admiring him greatly. A flood of flattery left Kado feeling dizzy, almost forgetting his own name from all the praise.

After the feast, Kado and Fite returned to the Kado ship to rest for the night. Sailing at night on the open sea was not a wise decision, so even though the three days were precious, no one would be fishing at this time. Everyone went to bed early to rest and recover their energy, preparing for the hunt the next day.

"Hey, Fite, that big battle with Fily today was really satisfying. I can feel my strength has increased a lot!" Kado, holding his big belly, swayed from side to side, reeking of alcohol.

"Of course, life-and-death battles are the best way to improve your strength. But I didn't expect that after fighting with the captain of the Blackbone Pirates, you'd actually become friends."

"You don't know this, huh? As we say back in my hometown, 'You don't know someone until you fight them.' Honestly, fighting is a great way to build relationships. A lot of people, even though they argue all the time, are actually close friends. What's it called? 'Fighting is affection, scolding is love.' When someone stops arguing with you, that's when you should be worried—it means they've started treating you like a dog. As the ancients would say, 'If a dog bites you, you wouldn't bite the dog back.'" Kado rambled on, clearly having had too much to drink.

"Alright, go to sleep already. You've had too much to drink and now you don't even know who you are. You're just rambling about your hometown, but still refuse to say where it actually is," Fite said, getting impatient.

"I'm telling you, I'm really not drunk, the great man said: 'Fighting is affection, scolding is love.' "How about we bond a little and have a fight? I feel really energized today," Kado mumbled, half-drunk, grabbing Fite and trying to start a fight.

"Get lost!" Fite kicked out, and Kado, with his round belly, rolled straight into the ship's cabin.

Lying on the bed in the cabin, Kado, still dazed, heard a strange sound.

"Beep beep, the main body can undergo strengthening. Would you like to proceed? Please choose the type of strengthening. Select the star value for the strengthening. Currently, there are 396 special energy stars remaining. You can choose from three types of strengthening star values: 50-star strengthening, 100-star strengthening, 200-star strengthening, and 300-star strengthening. Please select..."

In his dazed state, Kado randomly chose "Recovery Strengthening," opting for the 300-star special energy strengthening.

After making the selection, a massive surge of energy flooded into Kado's body from the cross-shaped device, and he instantly passed out.
