Chapter 53: Ch 52 - Flashy Moves
The sky darkened, as though the world itself reacted to the sudden shift.
"What is this?" Shanks whispered, his voice barely audible. His eyes widened as he felt Luffy's Conqueror's Haki swell to an unimaginable peak, its intensity rivaling his own—and perhaps even crossing the level of a Yonko.
Luffy's movements became sharper, faster, and more feral. His fists were no longer just coated in Haki—they radiated it, the black and red lightning crackling around him as he launched himself at Shanks with newfound speed.
Shanks was forced to go on the defensive, his sword moving like a blur as it blocked Luffy's relentless assault. Each strike was heavier than the last, shaking the ground beneath them and sending shockwaves that uprooted trees and cracked the earth.
"He's pushing me back," Shanks thought, his grip tightening on his sword. "This isn't just training anymore."
Luffy's attacks became more erratic yet devastatingly precise. He landed a solid punch to Shanks's side, forcing the future Yonko to grit his teeth in pain.
Luffy followed up with a spinning kick aimed at Shanks's head, but Shanks ducked, retaliating with a slash that barely missed Luffy's torso.
The air between them seemed to ripple as their Haki clashed, creating a spectacle of black and red lightning that lit up the darkened sky. The onlookers could only watch in stunned silence, their awe growing with each exchange.
Shanks knew he had no choice. If this continued, the spar would become a battle—a battle that could endanger everyone around them. Taking a deep breath, he stepped back, raising his sword high as his aura condensed into a single point.
"Divine Departure!" He roared, unleashing a devastating slash that tore through the air, its sheer force shaking the heavens.
Luffy met the attack head-on, his fists glowing with the golden light of Garp's technique.
"Galaxy Divide!" He yelled, pouring every ounce of his strength into the counter.
The two attacks collided in an explosion of light and sound. The shockwave obliterated everything in its path, flattening trees and sending waves crashing against the nearby shore.
The villagers and pirates shielded their eyes, the sheer force of the clash overwhelming them.
When the dust settled, Luffy stood for a moment, his chest heaving as blood dripped from his wounds. His gaze remained defiant, even as his legs gave out beneath him.
A faint "ding" echoed in his mind.
[Special Achiement!]
He collapsed, unconscious, his body battered but his spirit unbroken.
Shanks lowered his sword, his breathing ragged. He stared at Luffy's fallen form, his expression a mixture of shock and admiration.
"This kid," He murmured, "He's something else."
Hongo rushed forward to tend to Luffy, while Makino and Uta hovered nearby, their faces pale with worry.
Shanks turned to Beckman, who nodded, his own face grim.
"That wasn't just a spar," Beckman said quietly. "That was a glimpse of what's to come."
Shanks's lips pressed into a thin line.
"Yeah," He said, his voice heavy. "And it's going to shake the world."
The aftermath of the battle between Shanks and Luffy left Foosha Village in stunned silence. The open field where the clash had taken place was a mess of scorched earth and splintered trees, a testament to the sheer power unleashed.
Inside Makino's tavern, the air was tense, but it buzzed with life.
Hongo carefully patched up Luffy's wounds as the boy lay stretched out on a makeshift bed.
Shanks sat nearby, cradling his injured arm, while the rest of his crew milled around, their expressions a mix of admiration and disbelief.
"Seriously, what is this kid made of?" Lucky Roux asked, his usual grin plastered across his face as he plopped down at a table with a chunk of meat in hand. "Takes a hit from Captain's Divine Departure and still wakes up like it's nothing. What's next? Punching Kaido in the face?"
"Give him a few years," Yasopp quipped, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "He might just manage it."
"Kaido's head, huh?" Beckman said, smirking as he took a long drag from his cigarette. "Don't give him any ideas. He might actually try."
The banter brought a small smile to Shanks's face, though his eyes never left Luffy, who was slowly beginning to stir.
Luffy's eyelids fluttered open, and his gaze landed on Hongo. The pirate doctor leaned back with a satisfied grunt. "You're awake. Good. You're tougher than you look, kid."
Luffy groaned, trying to sit up despite the sharp ache in his body. "What happened?"
"What happened?" Makino's voice cut through the room like a whip. She stood at the doorway, her expression a mix of relief and fury. "You nearly got yourself killed, that's what happened!"
Before Luffy could respond, Uta stormed in, her fists clenched tightly at her sides. She marched straight up to him and smacked him lightly on the forehead.
"Idiot!" she scolded, her voice trembling. "What were you thinking, going up against someone like my dad? Do you have a death wish or something?"
"Uta, I'm fine," Luffy muttered, rubbing his head. "It wasn't that bad."
"Not that bad?" Makino echoed, her voice rising. She rounded on Shanks, her hands on her hips. "And you! What kind of grown man goes all out against a boy? Are you trying to get him killed?"
Shanks raised his hands defensively, a sheepish grin on his face. "Now, Makino, it wasn't like that. I just wanted to see what the kid was capable of."
Makino's glare didn't waver. "You're lucky he's still breathing."
Uta, meanwhile, crossed her arms and glared at both Luffy and Shanks. "You're both reckless. If either of you tries something this stupid again, I'll... I'll..."
Her voice broke slightly, and she turned away, blinking back tears.
The tension was palpable, but it broke when Lucky Roux let out a hearty laugh.
"You're all so serious!" He said, waving his drumstick in the air. "Come on, the kid's alive, Shanks is alive, and nobody's dead. I'd call that a win."
"True enough," Yasopp said with a chuckle. He looked at Luffy with a gleam of admiration. "You know, kid, I've seen a lot of people try to take on the captain. Most of them don't last long. You? You didn't just survive—you actually made him work for it."
"I did, didn't I?" Luffy said, a grin slowly spreading across his face.
"Don't let it go to your head," Beckman said, though there was a hint of a smile on his usually stoic face. "You've got potential, but you've still got a long way to go."
"Potential? More like a monster in the making," Lucky Roux joked, taking another bite of his food.
"Monster, huh?" Shanks repeated, his grin widening. "I like the sound of that."
