Well, I'm going to have to buy another one next week. Luckily I have the PC - even though I'm used to writing with the cell phone.

15 - A New Recruit in the Marines

—Why don't you leave the Marines and join us? I have big plans to change this world, and someone like you would be a great asset —said Teach with a proud smile, looking at Kara with greed.

—Wow… there really are crazy people in this world. Why would I join a filthy, no-name pirate when I'm one of the most beautiful and powerful vice admirals in the world right now? —Kara replied boastfully, looking at Teach with contempt.

—Zehaha! What a shame… —he said as he activated his Dark-Dark Fruit ability—. Then we'll just have to take a few hostages to escape.

Darkness spread all around as the villagers remained hidden in their homes.

—Tsk… trash will always be trash, huh? —Kara muttered before appearing in front of Blackbeard.

He looked at her in surprise, seeing how fast she moved, but he didn't have time to react before receiving a blow with Kara's full power. The impact nearly destroyed his stomach, leaving his abdomen covered in blood and torn flesh.

—Aaah, it hurts… aah! —Blackbeard screamed, writhing on the ground.

However, despite the pain, he didn't release his ability, forcing Kara to start rescuing the citizens trapped by the darkness. Taking advantage of her distraction, Blackbeard and his crew escaped, vanishing into the shadows.

—Damn you… we'll meet again! —he spat angrily before disappearing.

—Kara! Where are the pirates? —Smoker asked, flying in at full speed and finding her pulling people from the rubble.

—They escaped. Send the soldiers to check on the injured —Kara responded seriously.

She was furious for not being able to kill Blackbeard with that attack. She had used enough power to destroy an island in a single blow, but that guy turned out to be more resilient than she had expected. She could have kept attacking, but Teach's ability didn't deactivate even after taking the hit. She only managed to land that one attack before focusing on saving people, and by the time she realized it, he had already fled with his followers.

—Tsk… damn it. Pirates are garbage —Smoker growled as he observed the destruction around them.

When his men arrived, he sent them to help the villagers. Seeing Smoker in a Marine uniform, some villagers started coming out of their hiding spots. Kara, on the other hand, wasn't wearing her Marine attire, as her last one had been destroyed.

—The Marines? Good thing you arrived… that woman was destroying everything —a villager said, approaching Smoker.

After confirming that everyone was safe and only had minor injuries, Kara sighed in relief.

—No fighting when there are civilians around… —she muttered with resignation.

—Come on, Smokey. Let's go find the doctor. I don't like cold places —Kara said, pulling a lollipop from her pocket, unwrapping it, and popping it into her mouth.

Smoker followed her without a word, heading into the forest until they reached a well-hidden cabin.

—Sister K, I'm here for a visit! —Kara shouted as she opened the door as if she owned the place.

Immediately, a series of flying knives shot toward her, but she dodged them with a simple tilt of her head.

—Hey, if I were someone else, I'd be dead —she complained as she looked at the knives embedded in the wall.

—That's because I aimed to kill. What are you doing here again? —Kureha asked with annoyance, appearing with a glass of wine in hand.

—Mr. Smo-yan gave a wrong order, and some good Marines got poisoned —Kara replied while rummaging through Kureha's house.

—Chopper jumped out the window the moment he heard your voice —Kureha said with a smirk, realizing what Kara was looking for.

—Fine. Here, these are the most expensive wines from Sengoku's office. Payment for the treatment —Kara quickly said, tossing a box at Kureha before running off in search of Chopper.

—Aaah! —a child's scream echoed outside as something ran away at full speed.

—Sigh… these guys are really noisy. Let's go —Kureha said, grabbing a suitcase full of medical supplies and throwing it at Smoker for him to carry.

Smoker caught it without complaint; after all, they were the ones asking for help.

Meanwhile, Kara had already caught Chopper and was holding him upside down as he screamed.

—Stop screaming already —Kara said, setting him down.

Chopper immediately ran to hide behind a tree… though he left his whole body exposed.

—What do you want? I already told you, I refuse to join the Marines! —Chopper shouted, glaring at Kara.

—Mmm… I refuse —Kara said quickly.

—You refuse? To what? —Chopper asked, confused.

—I refuse your refusal to not join the Marines —Kara replied with a smug smile.

—You can't refuse something I refused first! —Chopper yelled angrily—. If that's the case, then I refuse your refusal of my refusal!

—Then I refuse to refuse the refusal of the negative —Kara said firmly.

Thus began a ridiculous verbal battle between the two.

Meanwhile, Smoker arrived at the Marine warship with Doctorine and showed her the patients, who were being tended to by the ship's doctors and nurses.

—So, you went to an island full of poison… What nonsense. You should've left that place the moment you saw it —Kureha said as she calmly examined each patient.

—Luckily for you, some poisons can be used as medicine, so we just need to use one that counteracts this one —she explained, pulling out a vial filled with a violet liquid from her bag.

—Wait, you're going to poison them even more than they already are? —Smoker quickly asked.

—Don't worry, it won't cause any serious harm. They'll just vomit all the toxins out of their bodies —Kureha explained as she administered the new poison with complete ease—. I suggest you bring plenty of buckets.

With that, she left calmly for her home.

Smoker just watched her walk away but decided to stay to ensure his men recovered. Just as Kureha had said, once the antidote took effect, all the patients woke up and started vomiting. Fortunately, the soldiers had heeded her warning and were prepared with buckets.

After a while, everyone was visibly better… though their faces were pale from all the vomiting.

Meanwhile, Kureha arrived at the spot where Kara and Chopper were still arguing like children.

—Didn't you say you wanted to cure all diseases? Don't you think that in the Marines, you'd have access to resources and studies from all over the world? —Kara asked, making Chopper fall silent as he realized she had a point.

—I… but my appearance… —Chopper muttered softly, feeling a bit down.

—I already told you that doesn't matter, didn't I? The Marines are full of Devil Fruit users of all kinds. There are people even stranger than you walking around Marineford… There's even one guy with spider legs growing out of his back —Kara said, recalling the vice admiral she preferred to avoid.

Ever since her colleagues found out about him, that man had become quite popular… surrounded by others who also wanted to keep their distance from Kara.

—It's not like you wouldn't be able to visit Sister K all the time. Marines get vacations, especially those working in the medical field. Plus, the pay is good —Kara added, seeing that she was slowly convincing Chopper.

—Let me think about it… —Chopper said before heading inside Kureha's house with a serious expression.

—Sister K, I'm taking your son to become a Marine —Kara said, glancing back to see Kureha leaning against a tree.

—If that's what the brat wants, he can do as he pleases… Just don't let him be in danger —Kureha replied thoughtfully.

—Chopper, I'll be waiting for you on the warship. We leave at sunset —Kara shouted before walking away.

Meanwhile, Chopper looked at the medical books and medicines he had been able to create thanks to them.

He knew he still had much to learn, and in the Marines, he would have access to an enormous amount of knowledge since doctors were essential. They even had advanced medical technology.

The Drum Kingdom was known as the kingdom of medicine, but it didn't compare to the sheer amount of information the World Government could provide to the Marines.

After hours of reflection, Chopper made his decision. With a determined look, he went to Kureha's room, where he found her enjoying the new wine Kara had given her.

—Doctorine, I… —Chopper started to speak, but Kureha interrupted him.

—Chopper, go prepare some medicine for hangovers —she said without even looking at him, as if what he was about to say didn't matter.

Meanwhile, on the warship, Tashigi was already feeling better. Smoker was ready to set sail again after hearing over the interference snail that the Straw Hats were heading to Alabasta.

—Kara, we have to go —Smoker said, annoyed at having waited so long.

—Alright, he's coming —Kara replied, looking towards the snowy forest.

—Kara, I'm coming with you! I'll join the Marines! —Chopper shouted, running at full speed in his reindeer form.

—The deer talked! —a soldier exclaimed, only to receive Kara's piercing gaze, which immediately made him shut his mouth.
