Chapter 223: 223. Space vs Time
----
Up to this moment, the CP agents did not seem to regard Fujitora as their opponent at all and even made fun of him. In other words, they were far too confident in their strength.
Fujitora stood alone atop the pillar in the bottomless pit, with only the narrow column beneath his feet for support.
Despite his precarious position, he remained calm, his expression and demeanour mirroring that of the tall, lanky man.
"Everyone, I assume the World Government sent you here to avoid starting a war with the Tru Empire, correct?" Fujitora asked, his voice steady as he sheathed his sword.
"I'm not sure what General Fujitora means," the tall, lanky man replied. "The World Government has no intentions of warring with the Tru Empire, but there are matters that require clarification."
"Since you're already here, why bother with such hypocritical words?" Fujitora countered. Then, without hesitation, he drew his blade again.
This time, however, he raised it high before suddenly sheathing it once more. The movement seemed to perplex those around him.
The tall, lanky man's expression changed as he sensed danger. With a sharp command, he shouted to his team, "Quick, take him down!"
Although the others were unsure of the reason, they obeyed, rushing forward together. However, at that moment, a gravitational field enveloped the area within a radius of at least 100 meters.
Despite their strength, the agents found themselves significantly hindered within this zone.
Except for the man in the white mask, who had consumed the Psychedelic Fruit, the others began to smile involuntarily.
At first, the others didn't understand the urgency, but within seconds, they realized the reason five or six meteorites appeared in the sky, plummeting toward them.
The sight left even these powerful agents momentarily stunned, and they finally understood why their leader had insisted on launching a preemptive strike.
The tall, lanky man wasted no time revealing his abilities. With a deliberate motion, he clasped his hands together and then slowly pulled them apart, revealing a suspended clock between his palms.
The clock swung gently, emitting a soft ticking sound. "Time Lag..." he murmured, releasing a wave of colourless energy.
In an instant, the entire area was frozen in time. Meteorites hung motionless in the air, and every individual remained in their exact position, some even suspended mid-attack.
The Clock Fruit, a Paramecia-class Devil Fruit, was undeniably one of the most formidable abilities. Its power to manipulate time was akin to stopping the world itself.
However, the ability had limitations: its range was confined to 100 meters, and during its activation, the user was as vulnerable as an ordinary human.
Fujitora, fully conscious despite the time freeze, realized the gravity of his mistake. This fruit's power was beyond despair-inducing it rendered both attack and defence impossible.
Yet, its weakness lay in the user's complete inability to defend themselves while their ability was active.
As the tall, lanky man stood on the edge of the abyss, a dagger in hand, he struggled to leap across the chasm separating him from Fujitora.
His fruit power rendered all his previous combat training useless in this state, highlighting the limitations of such a seemingly overpowered ability.
However, Fujitora wasn't truly alone in this fight. Hidden nearby were Anos and another ally, who had been observing from within a spatial pocket.
Anos, wielding a Space Fruit, had silently disrupted the earlier illusions created by the Psychedelic Fruit user.
Anos stepped out of the spatial pocket, brandishing a black sword imbued with haki. He slashed at the agents, sending a wave of sword light toward them.
The attack raced across the ground but halted abruptly when it reached the edge of the Time Fruit's range, confirming the ability's 100-meter radius.
The tall, lanky man smirked. "I wasn't expecting company," he said dismissively. Yet, the man in the white mask seemed less confident, shouting warnings to his comrades.
Although the Clock Fruit's ability was formidable, the tall, lanky man himself was weak in direct combat.
If his fruit powers were neutralized, even an ordinary soldier could defeat him.
Anos, however, remained unfazed. Closing his eyes, he used Observation Haki to pinpoint the tall, lanky man's location.
Without hesitation, he moved swiftly toward his target, intent on exploiting the glaring vulnerability of the Clock Fruit's user.
