---

Location: Gotham

POV: Cyrus

"I hope you're not too uncomfortable with the condition of my house. I haven't had the time to clean it," I said.

Charles Xavier: "Don't worry about it, young man. When I was living on my own, my room was much worse than this."

The other members of the X-Men stayed silent, waiting for the professor to do the talking. But one of them, in particular, seemed both uncomfortable and excited.

Jean Grey's Thoughts: I can't read his mind... I really can't read his mind!

Excited—because after so long of constantly hearing everyone's thoughts, finally, there was silence. For the first time in years, she could focus without an endless stream of other people's minds intruding. Her telepathy was so fixated on trying to read his mind that it couldn't passively pick up other thoughts.

But also uncomfortable—because she relied on reading minds to communicate effectively with the team. Right now, she didn't even know what to say or if she could communicate with him properly at all.

Cyclops' Thoughts: I wonder what his power is. An omega-level mutant is no joke.

Kitty Pryde's Thoughts: Wow, he's handsome and tall... but how tall is he? Hmm, maybe 6'4"? I don't know. I hope he joins us—this will be fun if he does!

Ororo Munroe's Thoughts: He seems like a good kid. I hope he accepts the professor's offer.

Colossus' Thoughts: He looks like a good person. I hope he joins us.

Nightcrawler's Thoughts: I wonder if he lives here alone... and if so, why?

Logan/James Howlett's Thoughts: I hope we can get this done soon—I didn't bring enough cigars or beer for this shit. Or even better, I hope someone starts trouble so I can rip them apart.

I turned my attention to the professor.

Cyrus Mercer: "So, Professor Xavier, why do you want me at your school? I don't believe I've ever met you or anyone here before, nor have I applied to your school."

Charles Xavier: "You're right, young man. You don't know us, but you are like us."

I raised an eyebrow.

Cyrus Mercer: "Like you? What do you mean by that?" For now, I'll just act like I don't know what these people are talking about.

Charles Xavier: "There's no need to hide from us—we are just like you. Logan?"

Wolverine extended his adamantium claws from his hands.

Cyrus Mercer: "Wow, cool. So, you guys are mutants?"

Charles Xavier: "Yes, young man, we are mutants—just like you. How about you join us at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters? We can help you control your abilities."

Kitty Pryde: "But what's your mutant ability? You're omega-level, right? Your ability has to be awesome—please tell me! Please, please!"

Storm: "Kitty, maybe he's uncomfortable talking about it. Don't push him."

Kitty: "Aww, come on!"

Storm: "Kitty, be quiet."

Kitty: "Okay..."

I smiled. "It's no big deal—I can easily show it."

Charles Xavier: "There's no need to pressure yourself. You can showcase your ability whenever you're comfortable."

Cyrus Mercer: "No worries, sir. My ability is kind of complicated, but I instinctively know what I can do. Can you guys give me a little bit of your blood?"

Kitty: "Your ability is blood-related?"

Cyrus Mercer: "Not in the way you think. If you guys give me your blood, I can show you. Really, any DNA sample works—hair strands are fine too."

At first, they were skeptical, but after some hesitation, each of them gave me a strand of hair. Xavier, having no hair, provided a small vial of his blood.

Damn, I kinda feel bad for him. Maybe I should help him walk again… and regrow his hair? A thought for later.

I placed all the DNA samples on the table and started with Xavier's blood. Even a single drop was enough. I absorbed it, feeling the DNA integrate into me.

Immediately, I could see his X-gene—his omega-level telepathy. I discarded all personal DNA and focused solely on the X-gene, integrating it into my body slowly. I wanted to learn as much as possible from my first experience with an omega-level power.

The moment the X-gene reached my mind, I felt it—I heard it.

All of it.

At first, I sensed all of Gotham. Then, it expanded, stretching over the entire continent. It kept growing, the telepathic energy spreading until it covered nearly half the world.

Okay I can't just stop now

I immediately grabbed Jean's hair and absorbed her DNA, integrating it with Xavier's telepathy. The moment I did, my power nearly doubled.

Both telepaths felt it instantly.

A massive telepathic surge swept over the planet.

Xavier was shocked beyond belief—even with Cerebro, he had never reached this level of telepathic strength.

Jean clutched her head in pain. Even weak telepaths suffer from emotional overload when exposed to too many thoughts, but this... this was too much. The sheer force of my telepathic energy gave her an unbearable headache, forcing her to stop trying to read my mind.

Xavier, though more experienced, wasn't faring much better. He barely managed to suppress his own headache.

POV: Cyrus Mercer (Inside His Mind)

AHHHH! It hurts—so many voices!

God fucking damn it, this hurts so much!

Thankfully, controlling telekinesis was easier than telepathy. My body's adaptation kicked in, strengthening my mind to withstand the entire planet's thoughts pouring in at once.

Storm: "Are you alright, Cyrus?"

Cyrus Mercer: "Yeah, yeah, I'm okay. I probably should've asked about your mental defenses before copying your powers."

The X-Men (simultaneously): "WHAT?! You can copy powers?!"

Cyrus Mercer: "Yeah. I can copy, absorb, and edit abilities."

Before they could react, I grabbed the rest of the hair samples and absorbed them all at once.

Cyclops: "Wait! Maybe that's not a good idea—"

Too late.

In my mind, I started sorting through the abilities.

Colossus: My body transformed into organic steel, growing larger and gaining superhuman strength and durability.

Wolverine: I gained his healing factor, enhanced senses, and retractable claws. My organic steel claws extended from my hands, not made of adamantium, but still deadly.

Nightcrawler: I acquired teleportation, enhanced agility, and the ability to cling to surfaces.

Kitty Pryde: I could now phase through solid matter, becoming intangible.

Storm: The moment I absorbed her power, I felt the weather of the entire world. I could control lightning, tsunamis, rain, wind—everything.

Cyclops: I absorbed his ability last. My eyes started absorbing solar energy, linking to the punch dimension—something I only ever read about in comics.

The X-Men all took a step back, watching in awe—and fear.

Cyclops, Jean, and Storm had some of the most dangerous powers. If I lost control, I could destroy the entire city.

Miraculously, I didn't.

I slowly opened my glowing eyes and smirked.

Cyrus Mercer: "So… what do you guys think of my power?"

The X-Men awkwardly got out of their defensive stances, embarrassed at how terrified they had been.

Charles Xavier: "Well… that was a very powerful demonstration."

Charles Xavier: "Now, about our invitation…?"

Cyrus Mercer: "I accept."

---

(10 Minutes Later, Aboard the Blackbird...)

Beast: "You guys are back?"

X-Men (collectively, still pale): "Yes."

Beast: "Why do you all look so pale?"

X-Men: "Don't worry about it."

Beast: "So… was the recruitment successful?"

Charles Xavier: "Yes."

I stepped onto the Blackbird behind them.

Hank McCoy: "So, you're the new student? Nice to meet you. I'm Hank McCoy. Welcome to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters."

I extended my hand. "Thank you for accepting me. This is certainly a unique invitation—I don't think any other school picks up students via fighter jets."

I smirked. Joining the X-Men was one of the best decisions I could have made. I already have more power than most people can dream of… and this is just the beginning.
