Chapter 309: Rescue! Timi! Sawblade Undead King!
"The game has only just arrived a few days ago, how could a Superclass Monster appear in the real world?" Quagmire exclaimed in astonishment.
"Luca, could it be that your Perception is off?" Donlow, who was standing beside him, also seemed doubtful.
It was no wonder they were questioning Luca's judgment. At this stage, there was no Superclass player anywhere on Earth, nor were there any means to counteract them.
If what Luca said was true, it would undoubtedly be a catastrophic disaster.
"I'm not sure yet," Luca said, furrowing his brow. "The aura of this monster is a bit strange, very unstable." He focused and Perceived again but shook his head.
It wasn't just unstable, it was constantly drifting all around Leaf City, appearing in one part of the city, then disappearing and reappearing in another.
This had Luca intrigued—what kind of monster could have such an ability?
Melania frowned and asked, "Should we still go in now?"
Knowing that something was off with Leaf City, the best course of action would be to inform the Drumph and Morning Star branches, letting them reassess and make a new plan, instead of rushing in recklessly. That would be the most rational approach.
"What about those people? Are we just going to ignore them?" Donlow disagreed. They could already hear gunfire from the city center, meaning that the people there were still fighting.
If they left like this, and the monsters broke through again, wouldn't they be watching them get torn apart without doing anything? Donlow couldn't accept that.
"Let's send the message back first," Quagmire, as the team leader, naturally took charge. "We don't need to worry about what Drumph plans to do. Since we're here in Leaf City, we might as well go take a look."
"It's just a Superclass Monster. If we can't beat it, can't we just run away?"
This approach aligned with most of the group's feelings. Even Luca nodded slightly.
If Leaf City's defenses were breached and everyone inside was killed, so be it. They could turn around and leave.
But the problem was that people were still alive. If they left now, it would feel like they were abandoning them to die, and they couldn't live with that on their conscience. So, despite the risks, they decided to give it a shot.
"We're in favor," the group said, raising their hands in agreement. The motion passed with unanimous support.
Melania said nothing. She was responsible for providing suggestions, not for making decisions. She wasn't one to waste energy on matters like these.
The group then used their communicators to inform Drumph at the Morning Star branch about the situation in Leaf City.
"Superclass monster?" When Drumph heard that Leaf City was surrounded by monsters, he was momentarily shocked.
Upon hearing that there was even a Superclass monster in the city, his mood darkened further.
In this situation, the chances of successfully rescuing anyone inside were probably less than one percent. He needed to seriously consider whether to abandon Leaf City or to invest significant resources to attempt a rescue.
However, when Drumph heard that Luca and the others had decided to enter Leaf City, he was somewhat surprised. This was almost equivalent to a death sentence—taking a huge risk.
At the same time, he was a little relieved, giving them permission to act on their own, but reminded them to prioritize their safety.
"All set," Quagmire smiled when he received the message. He turned to Luca and the others and asked, "Should we come up with a plan on how to enter?"
Luca shook his head. "No need. Just be cautious."
Although there were many monsters in Leaf City, the only real threat to them was the Superclass monster. If they avoided it, the high-tier monsters wouldn't be enough to stop them.
If they did run into the Superclass monster, though, even Luca would likely have no chance of escaping, let alone the others.
Everyone thought about it for a moment and realized that Luca was right, so they agreed to his decision.
Without wasting any more time at the city's edge, they headed straight into the heart of the city.
Leaf City had been far more devastated than Celephais. Everywhere they looked, the ground was cracked, and dark bloodstains were splattered across the streets. Torn clothing and scattered bones were strewn about like garbage.
The vehicles parked along the roadside looked as though they had been smashed by some massive creature, spewing plumes of black smoke into the air.
From a distance, the tall buildings in the city were pitch black. Aside from a few streetlights, no one dared to light a fire, knowing that it might attract more monsters.
Luca and the others moved through the monster horde, occasionally encountering one or two monsters that lunged at them wildly.
There was no need for Luca to step in; Quagmire and Melania took care of the monsters swiftly. Their clean and efficient movements made it clear that this wasn't their first time dealing with such things.
"Do you remember where your sister is?" Luca suddenly asked, turning to Tuwnken. "If it's close, I can take you there."
Upon hearing this, Tuwnken's face immediately lit up with joy. "Thank you so much! My sister lives at 021 Riverwood Road Road, just a short distance down this street and to the right in a residential complex."
"No need to thank me," Luca replied with a simple shake of his head. "It's just a small favor."
As they continued on, they passed through streets stained with fresh blood, and the sounds of gunfire from the city center grew louder with each step.
Before long, they arrived at a crossroads, where the traffic lights were tilted on the ground, and vehicles were tightly packed, some even spilling over onto the sidewalks.
Riverwood Road Road was to the right, the city center straight ahead, and the location of the Superclass monster was to the left, a great distance away from them.
Quagmire and the others planned to wait here for a while, and also to observe the situation from a higher vantage point. Luca thought they probably wouldn't encounter any immediate danger, so he gave them his blessing to go ahead.
The two moved quickly, and it wasn't long before they passed through two alleyways, with Luca dispatching the monsters on the street along the way. After turning a corner, Luca's eyes fell on an old residential complex.
The building's limestone walls were cracked, and the park inside hadn't been maintained for a long time. Plastic bags and trash littered the ground. The entire complex had a drab, gray tone, giving it a very dull appearance.
The two entered the complex, and Luca followed Tuwnken through a maze of turns, eventually arriving at a building at the far corner.
This building had no elevator, so they had to climb the stairs. They stopped on the fifth floor in front of an old crimson iron door, which had a protective metal grate in front of it.
Tuwnken knocked on the door with three firm raps. After a moment, the door creaked open just a crack. Through the gap, Luca saw a pair of large, bright black eyes filled with wariness.
When she saw Tuwnken, the wariness in her eyes faded.
"Brother, what are you doing here?" The door fully opened, revealing a slightly thin figure behind it. She wore a blue nightgown, her face pure and youthful, with skin unnaturally pale, though her eyes were strikingly clear.
In her hand was a baseball bat, likely a precautionary measure in case they were intruders.
Seeing the girl, Tuwnken's expression softened. "This is Luca... an officer. He's the one who brought me here. It's too dangerous here. I'm taking you out of this place."
He then turned to Luca and introduced her, "This is my sister, Timi. She just turned seventeen."
When he mentioned her age, he stressed the number a little, which made Luca chuckle inwardly. Was he worried that Luca might pose a threat to a young girl?
But Tuwnken understood the concern in her eyes. He said, "We've found her, let's go. Come with me, we'll leave together."
Timi, still wary of Luca, looked at Tuwnken, and a trace of worry flashed across her face.
"Don't worry, Luca is a good person," Tuwnken reassured her with a calming look. Only then did Timi relax, putting down the baseball bat.
"Is there anything you need to take? We probably won't be coming back here for a while," Luca asked, glancing around the room.
Timi shook her head, saying, "I don't have anything I need to take. This is my friend's place. I'm just staying here temporarily."
When she mentioned her friend, a hint of sadness flickered in Timi's eyes.
Luca and Tuwnken both wisely chose not to ask any further questions. They knew that, most likely, her friend had already met an unfortunate end. Explore stories at My Virtual Library Empire
As they made their way upstairs, they had already seen plenty of bloodstains below. The place had clearly been visited by monsters, and Timi's survival was likely a stroke of luck.
Since she had nothing to bring, Luca led the two of them downstairs. However, as soon as they exited the hallway, the trio found that a monster with bloodshot eyes had appeared at the entrance, though they weren't sure when.
It was huge, with a dark purple, bruised face, and ugly tusks. Standing at a towering three meters tall, its gray-white skin was covered in scars, and it wielded a rusted, three-meter-long cleaver in its hand.
One strike from that weapon would likely mean death, or at the very least, a serious case of tetanus.
Upon seeing the monster, Timi and Tuwnken's faces turned pale. Luca's expression remained unchanged. He simply drew out the Starseeker.
ROAR!!! The moment the monster saw the three of them, it opened its massive mouth and let out a deafening roar. Both Timi and Tuwnken's legs began to tremble.
But at that moment, Tuwnken stepped forward, showing his protective side as an older brother, standing in front of Timi.
"What's all the noise for? Is your voice the loudest?" Luca couldn't help but cover his nose, a flash of coldness in his eyes. With a swift motion, he raised his arm, and the long blade shot forward like a spear.
Thud! In an instant, black blood splattered across the floor.
The towering monster widened its eyes in disbelief, staring at Luca. Its crimson eyes were filled with shock. In its neck was a gleaming long blade, buried deep in its flesh.
