Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Four Hundred Million
Hu Yan and Ruan Yu froze in place, staring at each other in shock after they had "attacked" their captain.
Despite the echoing effect from the crevice, they immediately recognized their captain's voice.
"It's not a Fishman—it's... it's Captain Kai! How is he here?"
.
.
.
Two hours later, Jiang Kai finally climbed out of the crevice.
As he was about to reach the top, Hu Yan and Ruan Yu tied their clothes into a makeshift rope and pulled him up.
Once Jiang Kai was dragged out, he rolled over and collapsed onto the icy surface, gasping for air.
Hu Yan and Ruan Yu rushed to his side.
"Captain Kai, how did you come out of there?"
"Finally… I made it out," Jiang Kai panted heavily. "I was dragged into the Fishman Lord's underground palace by those tentacles."
Hu Yan and Ruan Yu exchanged shocked glances. "An underground palace? Don't tell me... you found the Fishman Lord's treasure!"
"I did," Jiang Kai replied, steadying his breath as he sat up. Looking around, he frowned. "Where is everyone?"
"They all left earlier; it's just the two of us now," Ruan Yu replied.
"So... you two were the ones throwing ice at me earlier?" Jiang Kai turned to glare at them, his eyes narrowing. "Do you have any idea how hard it was to climb up?"
"Captain Kai, l-let us explain…" Hu Yan started, but Ruan Yu tugged on his sleeve, frantically signaling with his eyes.
Realizing that Jiang Kai wouldn't be interested in any explanations right now, Hu Yan changed tactics.
"Captain Kai, I just remembered something urgent—I have to go!" he blurted out before taking off, Ruan Yu close behind.
Jiang Kai scrambled to his feet and gave chase.
On the frozen surface of Eternal Frozen Lake, three figures darted across the ice—two in front, one in hot pursuit. Their speed was so incredible that even the Fishmen emerging from the ice couldn't catch up.

Jiang City, Login Base No. 18
Wei Ying was reviewing several documents, his brow furrowed in thought.
One of the files contained battle reports from the local division of the War God Hall over the past month.
After going through the file, Wei Ying sighed and set it aside. "The Beast Gods are becoming increasingly restless..."
He then picked up another report.
"Forty-nine countries have already discovered linked teleportation arrays?" Wei Ying's expression turned grim.
The global development of Ghost Star was still in its early stages. The territories controlled by each nation were not yet connected. Only a few special classes could interrupt teleportation at specific moments, allowing them to enter the newbie zones of other countries.
This changed when European and American nations began discovering Linked Teleportation Arrays.
The linked arrays led to a public zone—a vast, mysterious area.
First, its location changed every six months.
Second, the zone contained multiple Lost Lands, though no one had managed to enter these secret realms.
Additionally, the public zone housed no other beasts.
Finally, only players below Tier-3 were allowed entry.
Upon entering, the system would transmit a curious message:
[Welcome to the Global Overlord (Beginner Level) competition zone. Teams of five are required to participate, with all members below Tier-3. When 80 nations have joined, the competition will officially begin.]
[Participants will compete globally. The top three teams will each receive keys to the Lost Lands, granting access to rare treasures.]
[Each player may only participate once at each level.]
For now, the competition had not yet started, and the public zone functioned merely as a platform for global player interaction.
But for someone like Wei Ying, who was involved in high-level decision-making, the situation was pressing.
China had yet to discover a single Linked Teleportation Array.
In the past five years, 49 countries had located such arrays. If China failed to find one before the competition began, they would be forced to watch others vie for the keys to the Lost Lands. Wei Ying could not accept such an outcome.
"We need to prioritize finding a linked array... I wonder if the other cities have made any progress. As for Jiang City, I'll have to coordinate with the major guilds."
Setting the report aside, Wei Ying picked up a final document.
Upon seeing the title, he couldn't help but chuckle. "The annual Guild Challenge is coming up again? Looks like there's some excitement to look forward to."
At that moment, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in," Wei Ying called.
Lu Jun and Xiao Hei entered the office.
Seeing them return, Wei Ying immediately asked, "Well? Any news?"
"Jiang Kai is alive!" Lu Jun announced. "Someone spotted him and his Fire God Squad back in the main city of Area 18."
Wei Ying wasn't particularly surprised. Turning to look out the window, he said, "When Lan Lan told me yesterday that she hadn't seen Jiang Kai, I already suspected he wasn't dead. And since you saw him get dragged down by the Fishman Lord's tentacles, the only explanation is that he found the treasure."
"This scenario, while rare, isn't unheard of."
Lu Jun frowned. "That guy sure has luck on his side. But finding the treasure doesn't mean he'll obtain it. In the 50 years we've been exploring Ghost Star, only 143 players have encountered treasure chambers, yet only 30 succeeded in obtaining the treasure."
"And all of those successful players were top-tier extraordinary class holders. Jiang Kai? He's nowhere near their level. He might've seen it, but I doubt he took it."
Wei Ying smiled faintly. "That may be true in theory, but that guy has a knack for defying expectations."
After a moment of thought, Wei Ying changed the subject. "By the way, how's Jiang Lan doing?"
"The surgery went smoothly. So far, everything looks good. But we'll need to keep monitoring for potential organ rejection."
Wei Ying nodded. "Make sure Professor Zhang and his team do everything they can. Jiang Lan's recovery is critical—only then can Jiang Kai push forward without any distractions."
Lu Jun hesitated. "Sir, with all due respect, is it necessary to go to such lengths for Jiang Kai? He's not even part of the military. And frankly, I think he refrained from stealing the Xuanwu Guild's boss only because of external pressure. He's always been... focused on money."
Wei Ying chuckled. "Money? Oh, Lu Jun, that's where you're wrong. Jiang Kai couldn't care less about money."
"Money, to him, represents his brother's survival. But for himself? Have you ever seen him pursue a lavish lifestyle?"
"We often ask civilians to think long-term, but we must lead by example. I've seen the determination in Jiang Kai's eyes. Once he ascends to an extraordinary class, no matter his affiliation, he'll stand on the Beast God Battlefield."
"Don't forget—both his brother and sister come from outside the city walls."
Lu Jun was taken aback. Such vision was beyond him.
Suddenly, rapid footsteps echoed down the hallway. Moments later, Su Lanlan appeared in the doorway, looking flustered.
"Jiang Kai has listed items at the marketplace!" she blurted.
Wei Ying and the others frowned, puzzled by her urgency.
"All rare minerals," Su Lanlan continued, "with a total asking price of over four billion alliance coins."
"Four billion?!" Lu Jun's jaw dropped. Stealing a glance at Wei Ying, he couldn't help but wonder: 'Are we still sure Jiang Kai doesn't care about money?'
