Otaku Witch

Chapter 407: 365. Phoenix's Awakening

"You're the one with demons? My business is none of your concern."

Within the Barrier, Phoenix, listening to the questioning of the Grand Inquisitor wearing the ridiculous clown mask outside, turned pale almost instantly, but she quickly forced herself to control her expression, stubbornly retorting like a cornered animal.

"Anyway, you can't get in now, so please leave for today."

She was like a fragile kitten baring its teeth at a pack of wolves outside, fierce in gaze yet unable to hide her underlying cowardice and guilt.

"Damn it, it's all because of those bastards from the Holy Child Sect, why don't you just go die."

At that moment, Phoenix was inwardly cursing with annoyance.

The matter had to be traced back to two days ago, after she returned from the young lady with her investigation having turned up nothing, her frustrations grew. Convinced that there was a serious issue with the attack on the Sky Island, she believed someone had overstepped their bounds and bypassed the God King's Grand Barrier's surveillance to use high-powered Magic in the marketplace.

Having come to this conclusion, she began to work backwards through the process.

First of all, it was certain that the God King's Grand Barrier was impeccable; the God King's Strength was invincible, beyond any doubt.

So, if the issue wasn't with the Barrier itself, the problem must lie with the Holy Words Department, which was responsible for maintaining and controlling it.

Phoenix sensed the presence of a traitor among them, and in her mind, it was undoubtedly someone from the Holy Words Department who had been won over by Sophia, thus secretly helping her by opening a backdoor in the Barrier.

Yes, it had to be so. After all, Sophia, that Fox Spirit, was adept at seducing others; not to mention how the hateful young lady was completely enraptured by her, but within the Angel Witch Clan itself, many had fallen under her spell.

Initially, everyone was firmly against the Sophia Faction, and there had been a consensus to ostracize her together. But just a few years had passed, and the once formidable Anti-Sophia Alliance had all but dissipated, with most former opponents now groveling at her feet, willing servants to her whims. Now, it seemed Phoenix was the only one left resolutely opposed to that wicked woman.

"Hmph, don't think I don't see through your ambitious scheming. I won't let the Angel Witch Clan fall into the hands of someone like you. Now that you even dare to use the Great Barrier for sabotage, if you really seize power, I can't even imagine what you would do."

Thinking this, little Angel decided that, to save her kindred young and old, she, Phoenix, would resolutely begin her investigation of the traitor.

Since Sophia was often seen in close quarters with the Holy Child Sect, Phoenix naturally began her investigation with them.

But unfortunately, her investigation proved to be a Pandora's box.

The good news was that there indeed was an issue with the Holy Child Sect.

The bad news, however, was that they were not Sophia's insiders, but traitors to the Angel Clan.

Although Phoenix, as the Saintess, often found herself lacking in dignity, being constantly overshadowed by that detestable Sophia in every way, it was just because that wicked woman was excessively aberrant.

Had there been no comparison with Sophia, she herself would be considered exemplary among past Saintesses, barely any less remarkable than her mad aunt, the predecessor.

Especially when it came to the use of the Power of Faith, having received the best education from an early age, she was actually somewhat superior to Sophia, who had only self-taught herself through trial and error.

She hadn't considered this before and hadn't paid much attention, but once she started to scrutinize those from the Holy Child Sect with the eye of looking for a traitor, she quickly noticed anomalies in their Power of Faith.

And when she directly took action, capturing a young witch from the Holy Child Sect and forcibly invaded her Faith Space, she could tell at a glance that there was something wrong with the deity statue there.

Although the issue with the deity statue was well hidden, she was after all a direct lineage successor to the God King, and was all too familiar with her ancestor's divine image, thus, she spotted the problem at a glance.

That was not the statue of the God King. Something was disguising itself under the guise of the God King.

As no Angel Witch would dare to commit such defiance, the forces that could and did attempt such a deed were quite obvious.

It was the Angels. That batch of the Holy Child Sect had thrown in their lot with the Angels.

Realizing this, Phoenix was dumbfounded. Such a matter was clearly beyond the capability of a little witch like her to handle. She immediately thought to inform her two mothers, so they could lead their people to capture this group of rebels.

But the infuriating thing was that the mothers had both happened to be on a trip, not in the academy. Even though she had sent a flurry of urgent messages through the Magic Network, it would still take at least a day for them to return.

A day, it wasn't long, but it wasn't short either. Phoenix had intended to wait calmly, as her investigation had been clean and those from the Holy Child Sect had not yet detected anything amiss. So, waiting one day seemed to be fine.

But just as her mothers were due back today, what arrived before them was a large group of Judges from the Judgment Court.

How could they possibly let people from the Judgment Court investigate this matter? It wasn't that she wanted to shield that group of traitors from the Holy Child Sect, but the Angel Witch Clan simply could not afford such a huge scandal anymore. The traitors of the Holy Child Sect deserved their fates, but the other members of the clan should not be dragged down with them.

The Angel Witches' power was already gradually declining. If not for the residual awe of the God King's protection, they would have lost their third-ranking position long ago. Now, if they caused such a huge embarrassment, this generation might truly be the one to fall completely.

The Angel Witches primarily cultivated the Power of Faith, and faith had always been a double-edged sword. When you were powerful, that faith was indestructible, but once you fell, the loss and splitting of your house would happen in an instant.

The decline of the Angel Witches was mainly due to this very reason.

Since the God King stopped managing affairs, there hadn't been an absolute leader among the younger Angel Witches. Seeing the Dragon Witch Clan rise under the leadership of the Dragon King and the Demon Witches ascend under the leadership of the Devil King, these two upstarts effortlessly surpassed the once leading Angel Witch Clan. The Angel Witches saw it all and fretted internally. Stay tuned to My Virtual Library Empire

Even if they didn't voice it out, the obviously increasingly fragile faith could not deceive anyone.

Now, the Angel Witches still held the third rank, and they could somewhat console themselves with the fact that they were only behind because of the strength of the Dragon King and the Devil King. But if they couldn't even maintain the third place, they would lose their last shred of dignity, and a collapse of faith would not be taken lightly.

As a Saintess of the God King Sect, Phoenix would not allow such a thing to happen. In her eyes, it was a life-or-death moment for the God King Sect.

The Judges from the Judgment Court never moved lightly. They were like sharks in the water; when their dorsal fins appeared above the surface, it meant that the prey they had set their eyes on had no way out.

Moreover, so many Judges had come this time. This posture did not seem like one for investigation at all; they had clearly already completed their inquiries and had come to arrest people.

Today, she must prevent the Judges from the Judgment Court from entering no matter what. She had to stall until her mothers returned. The issues of the Angel Witch Clan had to be resolved internally and absolutely could not be meddled with by outsiders.

Therefore, even if she now appeared more of a clown before the Judgment Court than the opposing Clown Grand Inquisitor, and even if her rash activation of the Protective Church Barrier seemed like the act of a wastrel, and she would probably be held accountable by the Judgment Court afterwards, she was ready to bear the consequences. In any case, today no one would be allowed in.

Phoenix glared fiercely at the Judges outside, not daring to avert her gaze. She feared that if she showed the slightest weakness, she would be crushed by the dread in her heart.

After all, that was the Judgment Court.

...The Little Angel was holding back tears...
